I have updated the Finder Compass, now you have MUCH MUCH more options in the config file. You have to(!) delete your old one though, and it no longer works without one.
Awesome! I'll be finding a stronghold in no time! :biggrin.gif:
First off, great mod. I was using it to great enjoyment earlier testing it out, along with some other mods. However, after starting fresh and getting some new mods, I see it's no longer working to my dismay, despite stating everything was probably loaded when I brought up my world. I've also manual checked standing right next to three different ore types (Two of which are your presets, ensuring no error in format) to confirm the issue.
As first suggested, I utilized the simple test to find a solution, but all it returns is this:
===Simple Minecraft Error Test===
Starting Minecraft...
'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Finished session
Right click, Select all,
Press Enter (This will copy the output to your clipboard).
Then paste the result on http://www.pastebin.com

Press any key to continue . . .
With no help found there, I thought the problem was perhaps because I had used the same config file from my previous download/install/world/etc. After deleting it and trying anew, still no luck.
Last possibility was that the new texture pack I was using caused it, having changed in the meantime of my previous work with it, but changing back offered no change either.
Any suggestions?
P.S. Props on the avatar. How the Major loves to dance to the sound of violence.
The compass does indeed have a default needle, as normal. Just none of my 5 custom ones that it says loads.
Running the patcher was the first thing I did, since the only two texture packs I use are 32x and 128x respectively, and it's definitely working. To be safe, I re-ran the patcher and re-dropped the class file in in case I did miss something, but to no avail.
I'll probably just clear all my mods and re-install them tomorrow, testing the compass first, just to save any hassle.
Wrong since u should
1)Be able to enable it or not
2)Possible personalize the music/sound
3)Using it for rare ores, means rare times the music/sound comes up = not annoying
Anyone is with me here? Eventually i'll do it myself
First let me thank you for an ever increasingly great mod, only use two and this is by far my favorite. That being said I tried to add iron doors to the config file and it works but only to a range of 8 or 9 blocks. 71:55:70:220:60:60:1:100:1 this is what I entered, and I can't for the life of me figure out why it only goes that little bit. :dry.gif:
EDIT: Oh man, problem resolved. And I am far too embarrassed to admit aloud what the issue was. >_>
Thanks for your patient help, Stryker.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Do tell us why it didn't work because I'm having the exact same issue, and nobody ever bothers to actually answer the "How do you fix this exact issue?" question ;_;
I can't figure out if it's a mod conflict with MATMOS or Zombe's mods, or if it's just some little thing I missed somewhere, but I know I did everything by the book exactly as instructed... I load the game, the game says the compass arrows are loaded, but all I see is the default red needle. x_x I tried testing it both in creative and single player mode but no custom needles ever appear...
--- Update ---
I don't know what I did, but I had given up on using the mod and just went back to work in my tunnels, suddenly the needles all popped up into existence when I got to the deepest part of the mine o_O Maybe it's pre-set to only work deep? *shrug* Seems to be working there now though.
--- Update 2 ---
That's what it was! I checked the findercompass.cfg again and there it was, the second to last value on every ore (max scan y value) is set by default to "16" -- meaning it'll never work any higher than 16 blocks up from the bottom of the world. xD I changed them all (except, of course, diamond) to 100. Yayifications! :biggrin.gif: I hope this helps everyone else who comes to the post wondering why the compass seems to be broken!
Atomic, next time you update your mod, you should probably go back and edit the default findercompass.cfg so it detects all the ores anywhere they can naturally be found. Was probably just a small oversight when you were copy/pasting the lines to make the new detector examples. :smile.gif:
Good find, and yea must have happened when copy-pasting (did you know i had three different versions of how the config file works? I had to keep rewriting it)
Yes, it can!

No, do it yourself.

What is it since I may be having the same issue
