Ok dude. You seriously think that i cant do simple 10000 exact same tutorial instructions? I did it like 20 times + i changed my versions (including modloader and mod itself) from mc. 1.8.1, 1.7.3, 1.2.4, 1.2.3, .1.2.5 and 1.1 100% same bug...

Try this:
Start with a fresh 1.2.3 minecraft.jar
Install modloader 1.2.3
Extract Vertical Redstone
Grab the files from inside the extracted folder and put them in minecraft.jar (DON'T: Just put the folder they came in inside minecraft.jar)
Windows: Delete the whole META-INF folder inside minecraft.jar
Mac: Delete just the files that start with MOJANG inside META-INF
Noticed the item ID issue for telescopes is still troubling you. Since Jeb increased the number of possible IDs to 4096, you'd got a lot more possibilities. I suggest defaulting to somewhere in the 3k-4k range, the more random the better to avoid mod conflicts.
Great mod! I'm giving you my recommendation for content that should be purchased, licensed, and fully implemented. There's no reason telescopes wouldn't be an excellent permanent addition to the game.
oh yeah, I forgot about that. I'm going to post an updated version in a second.
Also, I've been thinking about some things. It might be a good idea to draw a blank item while the scope is in use so that if you need to use the attack button or if you accidentally press it, you won't see the telescope waving back and forth while you're supposed to be using it. Also, it might not be a bad idea to undraw the HUD except that you'd lose the crosshair. A better solution for that would be to use a slightly more obscuring blur file like the one I've linked above.

I've tried to hide the telescope but it wasn't worth the hassle.
The baitbox has a bug. At the moment, if I hold the bait in my hand, the mobs follow me; but they ignore the box. It also only works if I've got that hotbar/item slot selected; if my hand on the other slots are empty, they walk away again.
I'll look into the baitbox bug. I think its their pathfinding system messing it up.

I have the impression it's a side-scrolling arena type game. I've played flash games like like these before (first one coming to mind being Thing Thing Arena). Is that what it is, basically?

I looked up Thing Thing Arena, and it plays drastically different from that. But there are similarities.
It's a 2d fast paced deathmatch / capture the flag / king of the hill game. Kinda.
I worked on it for three years during highschool and what it was trying to be shifted a lot.
But basically there are lots of weapons and each one is different enough from the others in order to encourage different tactics.
Bunny hopping / rocket jumping / stuff like that is encouraged through the gameplay (you can hold jump while in the air to jump again, bunnyhopping is supposed to increase speed, rocket jumps are most powerful when they damage you least)
It plays kind of like a 2d quake 3 arena, which is what I was most aiming for back when I was working on it in high school.
It started out as a 2d portal clone before portal was released (lol)
Then turned into a lan game, added deathmatch and such.
Then the game was too much fun and distracted all of my fellow students so we got our network taken away (lol)
So then I focused on making AI, singleplayer, vehicles like motorcycles / helicopters / hovercars
But I eventually realized making a campaign was impossible for one person and started developing the internet functionality to bring it back to a deathmatch game
But then I got really frustrated and lost interest until now.
I've been poking around and it seems like most of the internet functionality is there if not a bit buggy. (It was made a few years ago, so there is tons of stuff that is done wrong and I've learned a lot)
But I've never been able to really test it and I want to at least give it a proper burial of sorts by 'finishing' it if I can.

Yeah I feel like there is still so much potential in 2d games. They were basically dropped from the mainstream as soon as the N64 / PSX was released. And yeah I've loved me some of those 2d shooters, it's interesting how different they feel from one another while most FPS these days feel pretty much the same.

Do you think you'll ever look into restoring SMP support? Like after the official Modding API comes out or something?
If the official API has server and client support I'll be bringing it back, but as the SMP / SSP stuff stands now it's way too difficult to keep both. :\

found something to be wary of when using rope.... made it impossible to continue my world without removing ropes mod
I was out chopping wood, but couldn't reach the top one, and didn't want it floating there, so I thought to tie a rope there, then hang from it, thinking that when I chopped the wood block it'd all just fall down... which it did, kinda...
first off it went saving chunks, so I reentered the game, now my inventory was full of rope 64 stacks. and there were still more where the wood had been, and it went saving chunks, continuing like that so I suggest people not to do that, unless djoslin can change it
Umm... cannon powder doesn't seem to be working for me. I downloaded it, put it in the mods folder and it didn't work (I couldn't craft it or obtain it in creative). Then I used mcpatcher to try and put it on and the same thing happened. Help?

Can I please used telescope and vertical redstone to my mod pack? I will give full credit to the mod to you. My mod pack adds a lot of tweaks and useful items that make the game better.
I need some help. I love redstone maps, like CNB's Batcave, all of discos creations, and a few choice others, but ever since I installed the vertical redstone mod, when I download one of these maps, the redstone doesn't work. So, I downloaded a new map, and when I opened it, I immediately went on found where all of the redstone was, then flipped the lever. When I did that, all of the redstone popped up, making the redstone function incorrectly. Does anyone know how to uninstall Vertical Redstone without redownloading a whole new minecraft.jar? to anyone who can help.

further, if i try to place this item as a block - its appears but with no texture (completely transparent block with standard thin black borders, i cant walk through it, but i can see underground caves through the surfaces it must obscure)

mods are related - downloaded from djoslin.info
/imgs/ folders are copied to minecraft.jar (without them game crashes)
