I was rather frustrated at being unable to enter my large bedrock mine due to the overabundance of slimes since the 1.3 update so I fixed it. The download below contains several files
-slime removal SSP
a small class edit that removes the ability for slimes to spawn in SSP -slime removal SMP
a small class edit for the server jar that removes the ability for slimes to spawn in SMP
Server Instructions:
1)stop server
2)open Minecraft_Server.jar with winrar or similar
3) paste the class file from the download into the Minecraft_server.jar
4) restart server
Because the slime spawning code seems to be split between the client and the server and the de-spawn code seems to be broken you will need to kill any slimes already existing. This means killing the ones that are killable and disconnecting/reconnecting to remove the glitched slimes. Rinse and repeat until all slimes are gone.
Client instructions:
1)shutdown minecraft
2)open Minecraft.jar with winrar or similar
3)paste the class file from the download into the Minecraft.jar
4)delete the meta-inf folder
5)restart minecraft
Again since the despawn code is broken you will have to kill any existing slimes
I have tested these on both windows and linux, thanks to newt111 for testing the SSP code
As always backup your world and your vanilla Minecraft jar before installing this and also I have not tested this with any other mods so if you're running a modded server already your mileage may vary. Use at your own risk. If your mods do not modify the qm.class file for SSP or the ld.class file for SMP you should have no issues
Good luck and happy mining

For those who actually prefer not being able to play the game and want slimes taking over their world like some sort of post-apocalyptic cockroach. there are two files in the download that will allow slimes to spawn at any level below 128.
Tested on both SMP and SSP
Installation instructions are the same as for the removal mod (except the killing part as that will be impossible, in fact moving will probably be impossible)
I found most of them will disappear (They seem to be a client-side glitch..) if you log out and log back in, though.
Yup this doesn't fix the client side issue, you still have to get rid of the ones already spawned by logging out/in but it does prevent any new ones from spawning.
I actually have an SSP version of the removal mod but as I don't play single player I don't have a map with a large open space at bedrock to test it with. pm me and I'll send it to you if you'd like to test it

Honestly not sure, if so mods please move the thread
You should make a mod where they spawn more frequently >.>
This can save my home although i love them, i want them fixed, not glitched
Agreed.
Then when your world is overrun with slimes that you can't kill maybe you'll understand what we're talking about
See OP for download
Sir you know what you are talking about^^
java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file
please fix this...that would be awesome
Can you be more specific?
minecraft_server.jar or minecraft_server.exe?
wouldn't know how to insert it int the .exe^^
seems that there are still some dependencies from java 1.6 or so...
hmm, are you running any other mods? I can't get it to recreate on either of my machines after downloading a vanilla copy and inserting the class

no just vanilla server on linux machine...
Can you try downloading a fresh copy of the server jar and injecting the class into it?
I've not tested with any other mods but provided the other mods do not modify the ld.class file then it should work fine
