The only crucial parameters are density parameters, ChunkTryProb and TriesPerChunk. Set ChunkTryProb to 1.0, and set TriesPerChunk to somewhere in the single digits. Don't set it crazy high because generation will definitely start to take a long time. I also use WallHeight:1 or WallHeight:0 which turns the walls into streets. Other than that it is a matter of taste!
If you want to try to do something, check out the settings file first. A lot of people are asking for things that are already available by changing the settings =P.
Here are the settings I used to create the first picture in the OP:
<-README: put this file in the main minecraft folder->
<-ChunkTryProb Controls how likely walls are to appear. Should be between 0.0 and 1.0. Lower to make less common->
<-TriesPerChunk allows multiple attempts per chunk. Only change from 1 if you want very dense walls!->
ChunkTryProb:1.0
TriesPerChunk:4
<Shape>
WallWidth:7
WallHeight:1
MinLength:30
MaxLength:1000
Crenellation:true
<Pathfinding>
<-Smooth1 and Smooth2 control concave and convex smoothing respectively.>
<-Backtrack - length of backtracking if a dead end is hit>
<-CurveBias - strength of the bias towards curvier walls. Should be greater than 0.0. >
<-LengthBiasNorm - wall length at which there is no penalty for generation>
Smooth1:10
Smooth2:20
Backtrack:9
CurveBias:0.0
LengthBiasNorm:200
<Towers>
<-CircularProb - probability of having a circular tower>
<-MobProb - probability of having mobs in a sandstone/cobblestone tower>
TowerInterval:20
TowerMinHeight:7
TowerMaxHeight:15
TowerMinWidth:5
TowerMaxWidth:9
CircularProb:0.1
CircularTowerMinHeight:10
CircularTowerMaxHeight:35
CircularTowerMinWidth:5
CircularTowerMaxWidth:5
MobProb:0.1
<Material Weights>
<-Relative weights that a given material type will be used->
CobblestoneWeight:1
MossyWeight:10
SandstoneWeight:100
WoodWeight:1
NetherrackWeight:1
ObsidianWeight:1
I do have a question/problem, though... I've changed the GreatWallModSettings.txt several times, even started a new world each time, but I always get the same thing: Great Walls, but no cities. I just tried copying the text (a couple posts up) that said it was the settings for the city in the OP, but I still only get walls, no cities.
I have the text file located in my main Minecraft directory, not the bin or the jar... that is correct, right?
Suggestion: Seperate your wall materials into Material variables and allow the user to choose which materials (of say 6-10) materials are used, and a toggle for unused materials.
This would allow people to say, have their towers made of other modded blocks :smile.gif:. Of course, user beware for setting materials like Water or Lava :tongue.gif:. Go Bedrock Wall!
Do you think this mod would be compatible with Humans+ and other mods such as minecolony and Millenaire? Stacking mods like that together would create a pretty interesting world.
Downloading this for sure though, looks too awesome to pass up.

I love how people support such unfunny Youtubers who contribute nothing of value to a community. Also, I'm badass, deal with it.
The three mods you mentioned I've had all of on at the same time so MC works with it as long as your PC can take the extra processing during world generation in game :smile.gif:.
I don't use Mine Colony because it drops my FPS to single digits.

I can confirm one of your 3... I'm running this with the following mods:
- Humans+
- Single Player Commands
- Audio Mod
- CJB's Minimap
- ModLoader
- ModOptionsAPI
- MoreCreeps
- NatureOverhaul
Thank you both for the feed back! I have yet to try out Minecolony, but Millenaire lets me do sorta quests, I guess. And with Optimine, it keeps my FPS relatively the same. But yeah, thanks, I'll be sure to try and work them together. :happy.gif:

I'm not a modder, so maybe this is a dumb question, but... is there any chance this mod was written to accommodate Windows file locations but not OSX/UNIX? Or is that even a modding concern with MC?
I just wanted to say to the mod dev here, I am not using this mod yet but it is one I am watching VERY closely and am extremely interested in. I hope you keep updating and tweaking out the oddities. Just don't burn yourself out :wink.gif:

This mod is causing my client to freeze and display a black screen immediately when it opens (Just before the Mojang title screen should show up, after you launch it from the tumblr update applet). This is on a clean jar (Except for Modloader)
Did you delete META-INF? Follow the instructions for ModLoader carefully. Other than that, idk.
What are optimal settings to make a city?

Interesting generation thing, I didn't damage the wall myself.
Found clay on the other side of the hole :biggrin.gif:
More intersting generation features, possible to fix the first :smile.gif:, I like the second.
No matter what I do with the included GreatWall text file, I get the same type of walls: standard 4-block-wide walls/paths with 7-block-wide towers.
I've tried putting the file in the following places, with no effect:
/minecraft
/minecraft/bin
/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar
What am I doing wrong?

Another oddity, Ice wasn't replaced when this tower got generated
