If you're a minimalist, all you'll need from risugami's fix is the bw.class and terrain.png
@ Sword_Frog: I've yet to really play minecraft beyond loading a world once to see if the fix worked. I'll try risu's fix with custom textures and see if I have the problem you're talking about.
Edit: I see what you're talking about. Because the two textures used are just the greyscale grass and the dirt texture, the outline of the grass blades on the usual sidegrass texture is missing. You could try to include this outline in the greyscale grassblades texture, but it would be affected by biome colouring and still look a little weird. I'll update altimor's version of the mod either tonight or tomorrow morning.
First of all I found I had to use bw.class, BaseMod.class, ModTexture.class, and ModLoader.class to get it to work without freezing in multiplayer only (strange). Second, I use a 256x256 tileset and have had no problems with the outline of the grass tile - it works flawlessly for me anyhow. Third, this fix by Risugami doesn't support BetterGrass, which MrMMod hasn't released for 1.3_01 yet - so if you release it in this .class then you'll beat him to the punch.

I was fiddling with colors that would look like the original with the green color from the grass and i chose a darkish orange cuz the green and the orange kinda make a brownish but its not perfect...
EDIT*
If you could somehow alter risugami's to instead made the sidegrass on dirt to make it sidegrass texture overlapping the bottom part of the snow texture so the detail in the sidegrass wouldn't have a greenish tint like this roughly drawn picture
i use the modloader 1.3_01v4
copy the bw. class and terrain.png in to the minecraft.jar, that´s all.
in game no sidegrass
Risugami has changed his sidegrass fix since I first mentioned it. If you're using his version, you'll probably need to copy all classes and terrain.png into minecraft.jar (remembering to delete META-INF).
i copy the newest modloader in the minecraft.jar file, delete meta inf
copy the bw.class and terrain.png of this mod in to the minecraft.jar file
the grass logo in the inventar changed but the side of the grass doesn´t change
I just downloaded and installed the latest version of modloader, overwriting bw.class and terrain.png with the files from this mod. The side of grass matched up with the top and everything worked fine.
I'm sorry, but I can't replicate your problem. I do intend to release a modloader compatible version in the near-future though.
Deleted my bin folder, redownloaded it, reinstalled the mod while making sure that I did it right (the terrain file was my edited version), and I still got the problem.
You must be high. Without my bw.class, that second grass texture to the right of the cake will never be used. Not only that, but in order to have proper biome-coloured grass you'll need to greyscale it. As for replacing the actual sidegrass texture with a full grass texture, that's just insane. You already have a grass texture in the top left of terrain.png, now you just have 3 grass textures that look exactly alike (besides the non grey scale ofcourse).
In addition to all this, your sidegrass will STILL not be affected by biomes and will stay a constant colour.
If you want biome-coloured sidegrass, you can either use my fix, or use risugami's custom modloader with his grass fix included. Telling people "I know how to fix the mod! Don't install it!" is rediculous. If you're not using mine, stop asking me for support. You're causing a great deal of confusion for other people.

I never asked for your help. I explained my problem, hoping for help from the OP or anyone else. Currently, I have no other mods installed, I have installed this mod per all instructions (I changed the grass to be grayscale, too), and there is no reason that it is not working. If you want to help, fine, but please stop confusing me because I am confused.

I used bw.class from my fix and your terrain.png and I had no problems. I also noticed you forgot to greyscale the grassblades, so I took the liberty of doing it for you. link
Your screenshot shows that the grass is partially working, which is a start. I'm going to take a guess and say the textures flicker as you move around, as I had a similar problem a couple of times while testing the mod a while back. I don't remember exactly what caused it, but it usually had something to do with terrain.png not being transparent in the right places. This probably wasn't the cause though as your terrain.png appears to have transparency.
I'm not entirely sure what to say right now, except that I recommend turning smoothlight on and off to see what affect, if any, it has on the grass blocks. I also recommend using the terrain.png I linked to earlier in this post. Let me know how it goes.
Turned off betterlight; still not working. Let's go through my install steps:
I edit the terrain file in the download for my texture pack, with the proper grayscale.
I open up the bin file and the mod file in winrar.
I copy bw.class and terrain from the mod file to the bin file.
I delete META-INF.
I run Minecraft, and get the problem.
Sorry for my hostility. I got confused and sort of stressed out for a moment.
It's working! I had it set on my texture pack when I did the editing, so I tried doing it with the default texture pack, and it works!
I overlooked the possibility that you were using the built-in texture pack selector. Browse to your texturepacks folder and place your custom terrain.png into your texturepack archive instead of placing it directly into minecraft.jar. That should work.

can u upload ur minecraft.jar file ? so that i can look where the problem is. please
I cannot legally or ethically upload minecraft.jar. All you need to do is place bw.class and terrain.png into minecraft.jar and delete META-INF. If you use the built-in texture pack selector, read my response to BillyTingle at the beginning of this post.
Okay, you're doing it wrong. The bottom right grass texture should only show the grass blades, and the top sidegrass texture should only show the dirt. You can find an example terrain.png in the OP. Unfortunately, your high resolution texturepack makes this difficult to do.

Thank you for your work!
Changes:
2.0 - Now compatible with beta 1.3_01. Source released.
Simply awesome. Simple and sweet. Thanks alot, it is much appreciated. How more people don't use this is beyond me.
Thanks.
lol, that's rough.
You gotta be kidding me? This doesnt suck, this is awesome, Risugamis one is limited. Wildgrass isnt needed anyway.
I will always use this one.
It's impossible to have installed this correctly yet see no results. Please re-read the instructions section in the first post of this topic.

This is the terrain file I used:
I edited to work with the mod, and yet it doesn't seem to work right. Any help?

Are you using other mods? If so, which?
