I don't know about you guys, but I've wanted auto run functionality for awhile (especially when crossing long distances). So I decided to create a mod to enable my friends and I to take advantage of auto run and thought I'd share. I understand (thanks to r/minecraft) there are ways to glitch the game to auto run without the use of my mod. However, this approach does not seem to allow you to use your inventory or items while running, something my mod does enable.
You can configure what key auto run relies on through Options > Controls; by default it is R.
You can access your inventory, use items, attack, strafe, and even jump with auto run engaged. Auto run to get away from creepers while you snack to replenish health!

+ Corrected the default key (incorrectly remained Z), now it is R.
+ Added Toggle Sneak functionality which works well with Auto Run. Press sneak once to engage, once to disable.

+ Changed default key to R
+ Updated autorun to engage even while pressing W
Awesome. I would change the default autorun hotkey to R since it's R in most other games.
Consider it done!

Other functionality mods to follow.
What do you have in mind?
Also, why am I the only one posting here? :s This is a small but essential mod for MC.
I just released a mod which provides a server list for multiplayer. It looks like the world select screen, but for servers. I've got another that allows you to Shift + Click to create a complete stack when crafting. Finishing up another to transfer inventory to chest and organize inventory.
Awesome, thanks for updating this. Posting to track the progress over future updates.
NP! This was one of the first features I wanted, so I just had to implement it. Now I can't be without it!
The best thing about it, for me, is climbing up long (like bedrock to sky height) ladder systems. I got so sick of having to hold the key down. Now I can start my guy up, and go get a drink or something. :smile.gif:
But it's also great for general exploration and stuff. As long as the terrain is relatively flat so you don't also have to jump a lot. Also great for sailing! I hate having to keep both hands glued to the mouse keyboard, non stop. This allows me a free hand to light up a smoke or something once in a while.
AutoRun 1.3_01-2 Released! Link updated in the OP.
Included the suggestions provided by user zxc. You can now engage the autorun feature while pressing W, eliminating the need to stop first. Also changed the default key to R. To see the default key change reflected, you may need to delete your options.txt file; this will reset ALL of your custom settings.
