Rarecraft V2's gems will be influenced by biome. Rubies will spawn more often than normal in a desert, for example. And I had an idea for a trap...
= Pressure plate
= Magnet
Step on the pressure plate, magnets activate, splat. And I like the chalk idea, but make it spawn on cliffs :biggrin.gif: Also, Imma make a list of every ore and what they should do. It'll probably turn into the V3.5 or something :tongue.gif:

Emerald is a light green gem. It is found in emerald ore, about the same depth as iron and gold. When the ore is broken one emerald gem is dropped. These gems can then be crafted into armor or into an emerald block. Emerald is mainly used as a building block since it is weak as an armor set, though it weakens fall damage while wearing it.
Rarity: About as common as iron.
1.2- Ruby
Ruby is much like emerald. It is found in the same places and is used for the same things, however it lowers damage from fire and lava while worn.
Rarity: Equal to emerald.
1.3- Sapphire
Sapphire is a blue ore that gives a bright gem when broken. This gem is then used in the Socketer to create powered tools. A very pretty block can be made out of it.
Rarity: Equal to emerald.
1.4- Bronze
Bronze is created by using the forge. You place tin and copper in the input section and it creates a single ingot of bronze. Bronze can then be used with either wood or stone to create reinforced blocks. These reinforced blocks protect from fire and pickaxes. A pickaxe is still the only way to regain the stone and bronze, but it loses the speed bonus.
1.5- Tin
Tin is found in the ground fairly easily. It is used in the creation of bronze, but it has very few other applications. Tin ingots can be used to create a tin bucket. It works the same as an iron one but it has a durability. Lava will lower the durability more than water.
Rarity: Same as coal.
1.6- Silver
Silver is a shiny metal. It can be smelted and then crafted into coins which can then be used in SMP currency. They can also be smelted down into silver lumps, which can be crafted into silver bars. One bar makes 9 coins and 9 silver lumps makes 1 bar.
Rarity: A bit easier to find than gold.
1.7- Steel
Steel is an extremely strong and durable metal. To make it, you need to place coal and iron in the input section of the forge. It then creates the best substance besides diamond. Steel can be used to craft a set of tools which are equivalent to diamond in durability and only a step down in strength. It can also be used for even stronger reinforcements.
1.8- Pitchblende
Pitchblende is a uranium ore. As such, it can be smelted into uranium and crafted into glowing glass or other things.
1.9- Copper
One use of copper is as a component of bronze. However, it is also used like silver, to produce coins. The value of silver and copper coins depends on the server.
Rarity: Equal to coal.
2.0- CRAFTABLES
2.1- Forge
The forge is an upgrade to the basic furnace. It can be used to create new ingots that cannot be found by mining. Its main use is in the creation of steel, although it has a secondary use in the making of bronze. It's basic layout is that off a furnace except with a 2x2 grid instead of an input. To use it, place 2 or more blocks in the input, add fuel (It can take multiple coal pieces for one processing) and press the on button. It will instantly smelt, though you have to process each one manually. Occasionally, the forge will stuff up and will instead take 30 seconds to finish smelting. The forge will emit smoke in the process.

2.2- Upgrader
The upgrader is used to add special abilities to an item E.G. a sapphire can be added to a golden hoe to upgrade it. An upgraded hoe, for example, will produce more seeds and will allow instant hydration of blocks close enough to water. These boosted versions are more powerful than they were before, and have other bonuses that make them useful. Currently, you can add sapphires for various bonuses or uranium to provide health-stealing abilities.

1. Silver tools -- a little more durable than gold, not very strong except vs. certain mob types.
2. Silver ingots -- Require 1 silver or gold ingot to open a trade screen with another player in MP (right click with an ingot in hand)
3. Mirrors (say these are silver bars here)

makes 2 (mirror panels). A mirror acts as a light source of whatever light level it is receiving +1.
A solid silver block would also work as a mirror for this purpose. Forget reflection rendering for now, it would be useful just to have these for light control.
Chainmail is usually made out of wrought iron not silver *silver is way too heavy*, so i propose first having to make the links out of iron ingots like so:
[] or []
[] or []
[] or []
= Chain link
Then those links would be crafted with the normal patterns to create the chainmail.
Holy crap Rarecraft V2 has mirrors! The mirror panels reflect the player and the mirror blocks reflect light. Anyway, wouldn't solid metal armour > chainmail? And I reckon that silver could be used for chainmail. Or, better idea, change silver to mithril like in Lord of the Rings. It can then be somewhere between diamond and iron. In my current texture pack, the chainmail is already mithril :biggrin.gif: Then again, everything iron is, and the diamond is a red metal...

Yay for mod download! Not that I'll actually get it until Notch adds proper modding support :tongue.gif: Though I said I wouldn't get the Last Days texture pack until then either, and I've got it now...

Im really looking forward to using emerald as a substitute for iron because my map has hardly any of it but i think that the ruby invisibility idea is sort of bad but the armour could last until it breaks but the invisibility could only last the night? i like the fire and lava resistance idea though. i think that the radio active stuff has a bit too much time in the furnace its very complicated. i like idea that some have stronger than iron but last as long as wood or the opposite i think the idea that some ores can upgrade the tools too like:
Topaz:
Wooden pick:
Air:
iron pick:
= yay!
or anything like that im really looking forward to all the things i could do...

Chainmail should not be stronger then diamond armour, it should if anything be between Iron and Diamond.
I dunno just makes alot more sense to me then Silver =/= chainmail.
Chainmail costs too much iron for such a bad set of armor. Plus this isn't really the place to put it.
Mirrors for silver is good.
