Danger: High Winds Ahead! WhirlyMod V7 for Beta 1.7.3 by KodaichiZero
Thanks to darkmatter2222 for the really sexy HD video.
The weather has been pretty dry around the deserts, savannas and plains of Minecraft, and with cold fronts moving in, all kinds of strange weather can take place! ...Well, one kind of strange weather can take place: Mini Tornadoes!
Whirlwinds, or "whirlies", are a strange phenomenon in Minecraft that can occasionally spawn in deserts, plains, shrublands or savannas. They last for about a minute on average and move very slowly across the world, gracefully drifting over any obstacles they find, until they run out of energy and fade away. Sometimes there are things on the ground that can't be seen, and whirlwinds pick up small items, swirl them around within their bodies, and spit them out in a random direction. A lot of the time, only small bits of junk are found like sticks or gravel, but it's also possible to find valuable items such as coal, metal, or even... diamonds!
If you hang around a whirlwind, there's a good chance you'll find some kind of great treasure before it poofs away. But you have to be careful, because if you come close enough to touch it, you'll be swept off of your feet and thrown out in a random direction! You'll take a rough tumble, but usually only a few hearts. Of course, it's possible to take advantage of this feature. If you jump into a whirly at the right angle, you can control where it will spit you out. making for an effective boost. You can also lure hostile mobs into the jaws of the whirlwind and watch as they tumble helplessly in the harsh winds.
Just be very careful... whirlwinds are known to be very unpredictable and anything could happen when you approach one. But if you play it safe, you'll be fine.
Danger: Yellow Text Ahead!
MinerTrivia V7 for Beta 1.7.3 by KodaichiZero
The idea struck me just the other day: Minecraft was missing something that almost every other game has: Actual official instructions! I was shocked to realize this myself, but then I eventually decided that you can't tell someone how to play minecraft, simply because there are so many ways to play! But of course, there's no excuse to leave out a useful hints and tips section at the saving and loading screen! Every game has that! And so I set to work, gathering all the most useful tips I could find, and I compiled them all into a neat little thingy that shows up on the loading screen. This is my first GUI hack, and I hope you guys find it entertaining and useful.
There are 50 hints in total - but you have to get the mod to see them all!
Issues:
Both mods require ModLoader to run, and Whirlies require 303's spawnlist API.
The MinerTrivia mod replaces iw.class in your jar, but since no other big mods use that file, it should be compatible with almost every other mod there is.
Instructions:
You must first install Risugami's Mod Loader before these mods will work. Please do not attempt to install old versions of the mod loader or spawnlist into the 1.7.3 client.
If you are using a Mac computer, search for a special Mac installation tutorial if you have problems installing the mod. "Minecrafter" or something like that might work.
Once you've successfully install the three requirements above, simply drag the contents of the zip files into your Minecraft jar. If you manage to install Mod Loader corrcectly (deleting META-INF), then these mods should be no problem for you.
But really, whirlwinds have a small chance of becoming evil when they spawn (5%), and they also turn evil if one absorbs another(this is even more rare). To top it off, even lightning bolts can make a whirlwind become evil. If you create a file named "stopevil.txt" in your current world save folder, it will stop this from happening. Congrats if you were one of the smart people who decided to read the entire thread and learned about this secret feature!
If you mean pulling trees out of the ground by their roots, then yes.
...Well no actually, whirlwinds can only make leaves on trees dissipate slowly, and if a whirlwind touches water, it instantly gets destroyed.
But anyway, yeah I love making fun little mods. I might do something else soon too.
Perhaps a black hole from space which will DESTROY ANYTHING IN ITS PATH IN A RAGE AND FURY SUCKING INCREEPERS PIGS AND DIAMONDS WHILE THE NETHER GETS THEIR MINDS BLOWN!
Wait what.
Anyways I will be sure to download this mod later.
Wow the whirlwinds look awesome, I'm going to download them right now and try'em out.
And MineTrivia looks great for newer players to have, and really should be an offical thing.
Just a unoriginal suggestion for a possible project... make dragons that spawn in underground caves and all the residents of Minecraftia will love you.
Though knowing you, you'll probably make wild Amazon women as new female mobs....
:3 Love the whirlwinds. More weather effects are definitely what we need. SnowMod adds snowfall back, now we just need rain, and other storms. I would love you forever if you made it rain (Hurr hurr).
EDIT: I just realized...You could EASILY make tornadoes with what you have. I WOULD LOVE YOU FOREVER AND EVER IF YOU DID! :biggrin.gif:
WOW! JUST GREAT! the MinerTrivia is so simple yet so elegant... it acctually adds much more to the game... LOL... didn't knew that baby slimes were teribly vulnerable to fall damage... LOL! No problems at all... u can also make a Whirlwinds fortress... OMG whirlwind spawners scatered on the surroundings of a flying island... SO EPIC! and in front of your castle walls... such perfect protection... OMFG... such EPIC possibilities hidden here... !!!

And even though the darkness dawns... Brighter days will follow!
I just updated the MinerTrivia mod - I caught a typo. I also revised everything and made certain hints clearer.

Actually, I'm thinking of doing the Moas suggested by FireHazurd. Dragons will come in due time... eventually someone's going to crack and do it out of anxiety.

To tell you the truth, the physics backing the whirlwind's tossing effect are very fragile and optimized to work within a small area. The effect goes all crazy and weird if I do even tiny little things to it. Even just modifying the whirlwinds at all takes a lot of work... but don't worry, someone else is working on actual huge tornadoes right now. I forget who it was but it looked like they were making really good progress.
Odds are I'm not going to use these, but they are good ideas (and very origonal! Kudos for that)
For more little mods...
...
How about cotten plants? When fully grown, when broken, they might drop 2-3 string.
Or grass seed? You find them like other seed, and they (don't need tilled dirt) instantly put grass on the dirt if right clicked while pointing at the dirt.

Oh yea, and I'm a brony :3
It's not your mods that are amazing. it's your ideas! Every season a new kind of familiar breeze drops a pleasant surprise by.
Wonderful little additions!
Yeah, I'm hoping Notch and the gang take notice of the MinerTrivia mod and add something similar to the actual game. Back in Indev, there was actually a greyed-out "Tutorial" button on the main menu just to tease us. In my opinion, we shouldn't have to go to a wiki in order to learn how to play the game. I'm hoping Minecraft actually does come with a pre-loaded tutorial world at some point.

And it would be pretty hot if voiced it himself.
