It should be no surprise by now that I'm interested in two things: making female-related mods and making stuff that nobody is asking for. But of course, there are only two things that most people actually want to see in a mod: cuteness, and hardcore challenge. So naturally, the best thing to do in a situation like mine would be to combine those four things into a blender (female, cute, challenging, obscure) and see what happens. This time, fairies popped out.
Here's a few purple-haired ones.
Fairies (or fey) are a neutral mob. If you're looking for a place to start, think pigman zombies, except smaller. They spawn in shady areas, which is usually under trees, and can spawn in groups of anywhere up to 16 (but not usually that high). A shady area counts as anything less than direct sunlight, but not enough to spawn enemy mobs. Once they spawn, they leave a flower at their feet, which should tell you all you need to know about their behaviour. Basically, they can either walk or hover above the ground, and they can switch between these two states at any time.
Check out my epic mount, guys!
Fairies are social beings, so if anything attacks a fairy, all of the other fairies nearby will be warned of the situation and things will start to get rough. But I'll discuss that later. For now, you just need to know that fairies hover around, hum happily to theselves, sometimes laugh, and can ride chickens (and control them!)
The lighter side of things: Companionship
Yes, of course you can have a fairy friend, and relatively free as well! Flowers are an important symbol in fairy culture, so you can win a fairy over by making a flower hat for her. All you need to do is collect a stack of at least 9 of any flower, then right-click her and your character will instantly place the flowers onto her head. No crafting required! The fairy will of course will be very pleased and decide to follow you around, perhaps expecting more lovely gifts (not that you have any to give). You can easily take advantage of the situation by forcing her to grab your head by right-clicking.
Holding on for dear love.
Not only does the fairy stop despawning naturally when she trusts you, she can also travel on your head and flap her little wings to give you a boost! You get the gliding distance of chickens, PLUS you jump two blocks high! Unfortunately, since you just met, she won't fight for you or protect you at all. And you'd better be careful not to hit her accidentally, because as I said before, fairies do NOT like to get hit.
The darker side of things: Warfare
Yes, that's smoke!
Fairies get angry when they get attacked. And when they're angry, they fight back. Alone, a fairy has only 6 HP and a very weak strike, only capable of taking off one heart at a time, but together, fairies can be absolutely brutal. One original move that fairies have is stealing your active item (by a low chance). This can be a real pain if you're depending on that sword, but they aren't able to make use of items and they drop it after they die. Oh, you know what else they drop when they die? Lightstone Dust. I figured minecraft already has enough dust, so making fairy dust would be useless.
Hey, I needed that dirt!
As if stealing items weren't enough, fairies have another move! If a fairy attacks you while flying, she'll grab onto your head and attempt to fly up into the clouds and then drop you for massive fall damage! Smack her as fast as you can to make her let go in case that happens. If you're fighting a large group of fairies, this is bound to happen, so watch out.
OH CRA-
Of course, at the end of the day, fairies are still peaceful beings. They love flowers, they love humming, and they love flowers. And they especially love flowers. When night time comes, so does the shade, so you'll actually have a lot of great luck if you hunt for fairies at dusk or dawn. At night, fairies will have a faint glow, so you'll be able to see them from afar. This is due to the lightstone dust that composes 95% of their bodies.
Lighting up the night.
And also, if you --- hey. HEY. WAIT A MINUTE.
Is that fairy on the left carrying a sword?!?
The bitchier side of things: Queens
Oh, yes she is!
Yes, it's true! Fairies have queens, and they love them even more than flowers or humming. With a 1 in 16 chance of spawning, queens are not like your typical fairy at all. They are already wearing a golden crown, so they will not accept any flowery gifts you offer them. If you so much as touch them, they'll give you a quick, painless smack as a way of telling you to back off. But somehow, all fairies respect their queens absolutely and follow her like mindless drones. Even if you've already given your pet fairy a flower hat, she will throw it away it and forget about you once she gets close to a queen. Companion stealer!!!
Appologies not accepted.
Here's where it gets bad: The queen has 20 health instead of just 6, and her attack does as much damage as a zombie! Even more terrifying is that her lifting attack accelerates faster than a normal fairy's attack, so you have less time to react before you begin to plummet to your doom. However, there are two things which aren't so bad about a queen: she doesn't steal your items, and she ALWAYS drops a golden apple, which is actually kind of nice.
But good luck trying to defeat her army.

Fairy Mod V6 - for Beta 1.7.3
If you still think fairies are "for babies"... I dare you to **** one off.
How does this mod react with some of your other ones?

If you're callin' about the Mobtalker scripts, I no longer have access to them.
However, it's been getting tempting lately to put together a modpack that includes CustomNPCs, so I could definitely work in something along the same themes in the modpack's quests. Feel free to give suggestions of mods that promote an experience which minimizes mining grind in favor of exploration. I'll likely have to include Grimorie of Gaia to provide good models (No I'm not gonna directly change the default mob models)
It's a play on makeMyItem (because honestly plugging numbers into a template isn't modding, and it's pretty rage inducing to see great mods pushed down by a flood of template arrow sword 'mods').
Anyways, very nice mod as always! Not planning on installing it as it's not really my taste, but the models look great and I like their behavior and the idea of a 'queen fairy'.
Very nice man, you make some awesome mods.
I'll be trying it out shortly. Hopefully if I companion one of them she'll get along with Charlotte and my catgirl haha.
As usual: Fantastic! I can't wait to see them in action! They ride chickens? How did you come up with that one? Its freaking nice! The queen seems badass, I hope I can avoid her :s Fairies + Cats+ Charlotte = my family :biggrin.gif:
Keep up the good work, although I know you will :smile.gif:
I thought I installed it wrong, because I didn't see them in the spawn list or anywhere near the trees....then all of a sudden I see one of my builders getting dropped by a little dot in the sky.
Sweet.I now want to start a new save and install this(so it can't mess up my main save) just to go to war against the fairy queen and enslave her former servants.

But with the mo creatures mod there's now so many random things running around, LOL im already confused.
WAIT WAIT........ What if a lion attacks a fairy? Will the entire fairy army attack the lion? l o l!
Also, if you include the humans plus mod with the hunters addon get ready for GLOWDUST CITY.
It's like having your own personal army of fairy harvesters.
Ah....
This compatible with Mo Creatures?
Loving it. However I don't like the queen, or atleast her effects upon other fairies. This mod shall be used, just like all your others.
-_-' If you want to flame so bad, go somewhere else. And he already made a girl, Charlotte.
