This mod looks really sweet, but when i first downloaded it I had alot of other mods installed. One was an in-game inventory editor and it showed the items from this pack, but when i tried to make them on the crafting square, it didn't work, it wouldn't show anything in the square where you pick up the finished item. I tried running it by itself with modloader on a new world and it did the same thing, and when I connect it doesn't connect to minecraft.net, it makes me play offline, any ideas why?
*Edit*
I feel dumb for this, but i was making the boomerang wrong, so it does work by itself. It was really laggy and the not being able connect thing still applied, but when I added AudioMod and GuiAPI, the lag was fixed. I'm adding the other mods one by one to see which one was problematic.
Just a quick note - Leaf Grafts actually DO wither, just not instantly. They act as placed leaf blocks always act: they only begin to disappear when you do something that would cause the game to start leaf decay on a normal tree - in other words, a group of leaf grafts will not decay until one of the leaf blocks/grafts is broken, or an adjacent tree trunk block is broken. This is because in vanilla minecraft, there is no reason to check for leaf decay when you place a block, as you cannot normally place leaves.
Hope this helped, not sure if anyone else knew this already.

Thanks. I was actually uncertain how leaf decay worked since the update. I will probably just update teh description so people understand how that works.

Honestly. I'd rather just bring that work bench and make decent equipment rather than wasting valuable materials on half arsed gimmick tools and weapons. I'm not saying there isn't room in minecraft for these things. I'm just saying you need to consider the how the game works and what you have available before you throw a truck load of new things out there.
It's kind of hilarious how you go back and forth between saying it's easier to carry around a workbench, and how the new tools would make the full tools useless.
Are people going to use these things?
apparently.
Really?
tha's righ'
Are they really going to be using them?
Really really.
Will it make any existing items useless?
From the way you seem to think the entire idea is useless, apparently not going to be an issue.
For example. With this mod no one would ever make a full size wood pick or wood shovel. They would make the small versions of those then mine cobble and make full size versions of those and then never make the small versions of either.
Who makes a wood shovel anyway? I always make a wooden pick first and then gather stone and start out everything with stone tools. Are you going to claim that wooden pickaxes make wooden shovels pointless?
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Also consider that the diamond dagger will last longer than the stone sword, and has a much longer range than the sword does.
Yes because finding 2 pieces of cobble to make another stone sword is so hard.
if you don't have a pick to mine the stone with because you're underground, it would be.
Quote from Raposa318 »
You can throw a dagger. So if you dont have a bow or arrows you can throw a dagger,
okay so I throw my DIAMOND dagger for less damage than an arrow. What do I do after that? Punch the mob?
Go pick your dagger back up and throw it again. you can always lead the enemy away, circle back around and pick your dagger back up so you can throw it again without getting close enough to be in serious danger of getting hurt.
The problem with all of these items is that you didnt look at minecraft and then ask "What does minecraft need?"
You just figured "This is what I could make" and then you threw everything at the game.
LOL
What does minecraft need?
It needs a gate for the fence.
Yeah, because it's SO critical that we use gates to close up the entraces through our fences, and not just use doors. Don't confuse aesthetics with needs.
It needs a larger variety of craftable foods.
It needs apples to be more available.
As if having easily farmable wheat and pigs that spawn all over the place aren't enough. This all still qualifies as aesthetic.

Hmm thanks I'll have to try that. Sorry for not reading all the way through(I read to page 5 :tongue.gif:) but I really didnt feel like reading through 15 or so pages while tired.
it limited me at 2. i added another [/asareyou] at the end to include your quote. but yea it is fun. especially handy when i was caught off guard by 2 skeleton and a spider right out my front door with no weapons available X_x 'ohcrapohcrapohcrapohcrap" *spam unlimited pork chop* the unfortunate thing is that then the pork chop was consumed -.- i ended up managing to get around the mobs into my base and tossed a few blocks down to block em definitely exhilarating though lol, but yea, reinstalling seems to fix it temporarily like i said, also i find myself able to stack the pork chops after the bug. doesn't show an amount mind you but i can drag and drop a pork chop to another and it dissapears.
Have you people tried updating to 3.07? It's in the unstable release section, but except for the one file that needs renamed as you move it over, it seems to work a lot better than the public release.
i thought i did but apparently i didn't i re-downloaded the unstable and made sure the GrillBlock.png file was renamed properly and re-installed it. the issue seems to be fixed for the most part except for the part where you can still drop one ham onto another, it still only counts as 1 pork chop so not that big a deal. just what i have noticed while using the mod.
edit: also glyph i see what your saying with the quote limitation, it just automatically didn't take one of my quotes before but no, it straight up big red text refuses 4 quotes.
I have to agree with that guy. When I compare usefulness of fence gate and throwel I yould go for fence gate. Why? Because doors in fences looks godawful and Minecraft is building game more than hardcore survival/FPS/resource management simulator. Aestetics arent crime but you sound like it is. Also what are the Ore slabs other than aestetic stuff? Even you said that almost nobody uses tools as wooden shovel, still you added another 15 useless tools because of some imaginary need to make tools on the fly. It never happened to me and I even modified minecraft to be extra hardcore by making desert settings with rare trees, almost no grass and no natural coal (playing on hard of course). I dont say you dont have good ideas, but it would be much more usefull if you made the stuff optional. And dont bring the "just dont use it" argument, it dont work. We still have limited sprite and texture indices and cluttering your minecraft with useless stuff will make you run out of sprites too fast.
This is why i'm not downloading it, despite some really good ideas in there. Most of the tools are useless and take up space that other mods that i actually like could use.
I've said it before, but the boomerang and ore slabs are all i see in this mod. Topiary blocks are cool but not released yet (in a working state) and gravel crafting has been done before.

first off, you use the point that Minecraft is more of a building game than a hardcore survival/FPS/resource management simulator yet you yourself state you play on maps with severely limited resources.. isn't that almost exactly what your making it? either way the point i'm making is the game may be designed as a world builder but it has a lot of potential for other types of gameplay. For example your hardcore survival/FPS/resource management simulator. The big thing that i have noticed on this thread is that a large portion of these ideas is based off of ONE mechanic. The inability to cut down trees with your bare hands. its that mechanic that basically ALL of the hand tools are based off of as well as any and everything he has stated about the saplings. These tools would almost all become useful if this mechanic is implemented which some people, including myself, would prefer. i bet even you would be thankful for them in your rare trees maps if you couldn't just run up and smack a tree down with your bear hands, mind you i know its not NEARLY as manly or awesome as a hatchet but all in all it might just add to the game itself and add a little difficulty along with some other options. in short the addition of the inability to cut down trees with your bear hands, if it is ever implemented, would open up a lot of room for the games expansion including these tools which is one of the points he is trying to make in parts of it and a large point i keep seeing people miss.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
The Hatchet would only be implemented if Trees were made to only drop Logs when broken by an Axe or Hatchet (AND along with making saplings craftable into sticks, and sticks craftable into wood) otherwise there wouldn't be any point in making it when you could just chop the tree by hand. ... Future Plans - Currently it is still possible to mine Log Blocks by hand. Eventually it is intended to remove the players ability to do this, forcing them to rely on saplings to craft their initial tools until they make a hatchet or axe. In the meantime, Hatchets can mine log blocks without issue.
taken right from the original post and while it only mentions the hatchet the other hand tools are also in the same general area. With the ability to cut down trees with your bear hands of course you wont want to make hand tools. you can just smack a tree and make your tools. I played a world where i refrained from smacking trees down with my bare hands and found myself using almost all of the hand tools until i was inside a shelter where i made the workbench.
i only see this as a way for newbs to not have to go back and forth between their crafting grid and their cave system.
keep this as a mod, no mojang employee usually reads these, and one even stated that they wont add fan made suggestions/material's to the official game.
That mechanic is not there and even if it was (as part of the mod), it would be pity to bury fine ideas under gameplay changes most people dont care about.
no the mechanic is not there, yet. And bury what fine ideas? of all the suggestions and mods i have viewed on this forum non of them would be harmed with the need to have a hatchet or an axe to chop wood. it would simply be a small change to the general gameplay. You also say that most people do not care about these gameplay changes, what changes are you speaking of exactly? hand tools being added to the game for use prior to workbenches? because if that is the change your talking about then i think the polls, including past polls. If your speaking of the inability to cut down trees with bare hands then there is no way for either of us to go too much further with that topic as there is no way that we can know what most of the minecraft community actually wants aside from the hand tools generally support that mechanic
Quote from gapho »

the idea is also on the Get Satisfaction website, http://getsatisfaction.com/mojang/topic ... formatting and while there is no guarantee the idea will be read over that IS what the website was made for. so there is a good chance it will be viewed in a location where the devs may eventually see it AND the communities opinions on the topic.
And from what I see this idea is far from perfect.
Just think about it.
i never said the proposal was perfect, there are holes in it as you said like there are with any mods. The largest ones being a large factor on the need of trees to be cut down with axes or hatchets and the limited amount of sprites able to be used. This is the way i see them. The first one may be added eventually. Might not be soon might be next patch might be never. And yes i know that about half of this proposal doesnt work without that

so you agree with me on that statement? good. im glad you see it my way.
when it comes down to the maximum amount of sprites the number will be reached sooner or later. What do you expect will happen at that point? "well. Thats the end of it boys no more content for minecraft it has officially run its course". this scenario is highly doubtful. They are going to work and do everything they can to create a workaround to be able to add more sprites and textures.
as for the people? i wont defend them. of course you will have people that randomly vote mindlessly on a topic but it is doubtful that every single supporter or even the majority of the supporters were those mindless drones. And if you want to go that route on it the same could be said about the mods you support.
and as for the amount of people who actually treat this as a survival game? most likely quite a bit more than you are assuming. hell even you treat it like a survival game as per your previous posts

what i am trying to get at is just because one group plays one style does not make it better. there ARE other groups who like to play the game differently, treat it as a survival, or even an exploration game
and no not all the ideas on the thread are good ideas for everyone. GA & Yofreke have stated that they may eventually separate the mod into different sections so bits and pieces can be used. Until then it is their suggestion, their posting, their mod. They dont HAVE to split it up at all but because people request it they have stated they will possibly do so in the future but want to make sure they get all the features finished before they do so

Guys! The problem is that this is OUTDATED! THIS IS BOR BETA 1.1_02 NOT 1.2_02 THIS NEEDS AN UPDATE!
not last i checked, even double-checked the download file names 2by2 V0.3.05 B1.2_01.zip - Public Release, 2by2 V0.3.07 B1.2_01.zip - Unstable Release, both are set to B1.2_01, if you are having difficulties with the unstable release make sure you renamed the grillblock.png to GrillBlock.png in the gui and then 2by2pack folders or the modloader wont be able to locate the correct files and therefore wont work
Ateris, you do an excellent job of summing up much of what my responses would be, sometimes almost word for word. About the only thing I still feel needs to be pointed out is that this "mod" is intended as a showcase for how these features would all fit into Vanilla minecraft and supplement the gameplay that is already there. That means that NO one particular playstyle is getting focused on, but the focus is on adding a variety of option that will enrich all varieties of playstyles and even support entirely NEW playstyles that were impossible before.

Nice mod! But could you just please ffs post what the secrets are? I'm getting REALLY tired of "FIND IT OUT YOURSELF LOLOLOLOLOL".
I'll probably make a video eventually that provides actual hints to what all secret features are available, but in the meantime finding it out on your own is what makes the secrets enjoyable.
Some of them aren't even really "secrets" so much as they're features that just aren't explicitly mentioned in the description of the item.

LOL. Dude. If doors in fences look horrible, just reskin a wooden door to better match a fence, use the iron door as your "house" door. When I said "aesthetic", I meant aesthetic.
Also what are the Ore slabs other than aestetic stuff? Even you said that almost nobody uses tools as wooden shovel, still you added another 15 useless tools because of some imaginary need to make tools on the fly.
I find it interesting in your mind that "wooden shovel" becomes "every hand tool" The point either flew way over your head or bounced right off of it.
Does anyone need the wooden shovel, or wooden sword, or wooden hoe? or for that matter, any hoe other than stone? (it's pretty much only number of uses that differentiates hoes) Are you going to go tell notch to get rid of that stuff so we can have room for other features? No? thought not. Yes? That's okay, I'll take your request into the same consideration that he will.
It never happened to me and I even modified minecraft to be extra hardcore by making desert settings with rare trees, almost no grass and no natural coal (playing on hard of course).
Really? I say that's bull. If you were REALLY interested in playing "extra" hardcore, you would refrain from making a workbench entirely.
I dont say you dont have good ideas, but it would be much more usefull if you made the stuff optional. And dont bring the "just dont use it" argument, it dont work. We still have limited sprite and texture indices and cluttering your minecraft with useless stuff will make you run out of sprites too fast.
There are people working on extending those limits even as we speak, and one of the first thing ALL of the mods I am involved in will do is make sure to be compatible with and include that system, and that's not even getting into the fact that Notch himself should be working on extending that limit.
Fact of the matter, these are my priorities:
1) Get everything already present working exactly the way it should be.
2) Improve compatibility with other mods
3) Add other features that are still yet to be included
4) Make stuff optional
So yes, the people who want to experience all of what this mod has to offer get priority.

None of the original hand tools were based on that at all. Only the hatchets were based on that mechanic, because without it, they were useless, yet people still were clamoring for them to be added. However you are right that with saplings being your initial wood resource, the hand tools could become more useful.

LOL "authors somewhere"
Hi. Mod director, right here. It's going in once we figure out how to do it. Glad I can count on you to support it.
Look around and say how many people really play minecraft as a survival and not just building sandbox game. Would all the inventory and map editors, more ore drop mods and singleplayer commands be so popular if these people cared about chopping down trees only by axe? No, but they can be interested in other features just for the fun.
So basically, you want us to make YOU a mod, instead of making something everyone will enjoy? Yeah, that type of attitude gets a gut-level "make it yourself" reaction out of me.
I would be interested in how many people who mindlessly voted for "Add to minecraft" have tought about it, actually use these tools, or even play with this mod in the end. Because what I saw around most people are quite dumb, not being able to install mods even if there is a tutorial on each page of each thread. They vote for every nonsense around just because they can.
Unless it's an idea you support, of course. In that case I'm sure everyone who's voting in favor of it are just as intelligent, experienced, and educated on the subject as you are.
From what I see this mod and few other suggestion threads from GA & Yokefere are deep game mechanic shuffles with good ideas but also with lot of stupid ones. And instead of giving out stuff for people to decide whats useful or funny and what is not they try to force the complete thing onto them. And from what I see this idea is far from perfect.
Just think about it.
I'm thinking that the more you talk, the less I see you as someone speaking for a relevant group, and more that you have absolutely nobody else's interest at heart but your own.
*Edit*
I feel dumb for this, but i was making the boomerang wrong, so it does work by itself. It was really laggy and the not being able connect thing still applied, but when I added AudioMod and GuiAPI, the lag was fixed. I'm adding the other mods one by one to see which one was problematic.
Hope this helped, not sure if anyone else knew this already.
Is this the secret?
Thanks. I was actually uncertain how leaf decay worked since the update. I will probably just update teh description so people understand how that works.
It's kind of hilarious how you go back and forth between saying it's easier to carry around a workbench, and how the new tools would make the full tools useless.
apparently.
tha's righ'
Really really.
From the way you seem to think the entire idea is useless, apparently not going to be an issue.
Who makes a wood shovel anyway? I always make a wooden pick first and then gather stone and start out everything with stone tools. Are you going to claim that wooden pickaxes make wooden shovels pointless?
if you don't have a pick to mine the stone with because you're underground, it would be.
Go pick your dagger back up and throw it again. you can always lead the enemy away, circle back around and pick your dagger back up so you can throw it again without getting close enough to be in serious danger of getting hurt.
LOL
Yeah, because it's SO critical that we use gates to close up the entraces through our fences, and not just use doors. Don't confuse aesthetics with needs.
As if having easily farmable wheat and pigs that spawn all over the place aren't enough. This all still qualifies as aesthetic.
Got that covered.
LULZ! I do see it being pretty rare to make anything above STONE tools, but saying people wont make anything above wooden hand tools is just silly.

But it appears to have a problem with the Portable grill gui;
I also thought I deleted the spawnblock mod, i never got it to work, guess not...
Some others seemed to have this exact problem also.
i think u left one of the textures out when u installed the mod, try reinstalling it
and make sure u get all the included files in
was wondering if you could make another mod with just boomerang in it and add these types also to the boomerang and make it work with [V8.10] King's Mods - Neutral Creepers, Netherrack Tools! this
if you can that would be cool
thanks

Please read when you download (thats why those are called unstable) d:
Tutorials and Mods and Things and Stuff - blog.yofreke.com
Hmm thanks I'll have to try that. Sorry for not reading all the way through(I read to page 5 :tongue.gif:) but I really didnt feel like reading through 15 or so pages while tired.
i thought i did but apparently i didn't i re-downloaded the unstable and made sure the GrillBlock.png file was renamed properly and re-installed it. the issue seems to be fixed for the most part except for the part where you can still drop one ham onto another, it still only counts as 1 pork chop so not that big a deal. just what i have noticed while using the mod.
edit: also glyph i see what your saying with the quote limitation, it just automatically didn't take one of my quotes before but no, it straight up big red text refuses 4 quotes.
It would be nice if you guys could split it up.
first off, you use the point that Minecraft is more of a building game than a hardcore survival/FPS/resource management simulator yet you yourself state you play on maps with severely limited resources.. isn't that almost exactly what your making it? either way the point i'm making is the game may be designed as a world builder but it has a lot of potential for other types of gameplay. These tools would almost all become useful if this mechanic is implemented which some people, including myself, would prefer. i bet even you would be thankful for them in your rare trees maps if you couldn't just run up and smack a tree down with your bear hands, mind you i know its not NEARLY as manly or awesome as a hatchet but all in all it might just add to the game itself and add a little difficulty along with some other options. in short the addition of the inability to cut down trees with your bear hands, if it is ever implemented, would open up a lot of room for the games expansion including these tools which is one of the points he is trying to make in parts of it and a large point i keep seeing people miss.
taken right from the original post and while it only mentions the hatchet the other hand tools are also in the same general area. With the ability to cut down trees with your bear hands of course you wont want to make hand tools. you can just smack a tree and make your tools. I played a world where i refrained from smacking trees down with my bare hands and found myself using almost all of the hand tools until i was inside a shelter where i made the workbench.
keep this as a mod, no mojang employee usually reads these, and one even stated that they wont add fan made suggestions/material's to the official game.
no the mechanic is not there, yet. If your speaking of the inability to cut down trees with bare hands then there is no way for either of us to go too much further with that topic as there is no way that we can know what most of the minecraft community actually wants aside from the hand tools generally support that mechanic
the idea is also on the Get Satisfaction website, http://getsatisfaction.com/mojang/topic ... formatting and while there is no guarantee the idea will be read over that IS what the website was made for. so there is a good chance it will be viewed in a location where the devs may eventually see it AND the communities opinions on the topic.
i never said the proposal was perfect, there are holes in it as you said like there are with any mods.
They dont HAVE to split it up at all but because people request it they have stated they will possibly do so in the future but want to make sure they get all the features finished before they do so
edit:
not last i checked, even double-checked the download file names 2by2 V0.3.05 B1.2_01.zip - Public Release, 2by2 V0.3.07 B1.2_01.zip - Unstable Release, both are set to B1.2_01, if you are having difficulties with the unstable release make sure you renamed the grillblock.png to GrillBlock.png in the gui and then 2by2pack folders or the modloader wont be able to locate the correct files and therefore wont work
I'll probably make a video eventually that provides actual hints to what all secret features are available, but in the meantime finding it out on your own is what makes the secrets enjoyable.
Some of them aren't even really "secrets" so much as they're features that just aren't explicitly mentioned in the description of the item.
fixed.
LOL. Dude. If doors in fences look horrible, just reskin a wooden door to better match a fence, use the iron door as your "house" door. When I said "aesthetic", I meant aesthetic.
Really? I say that's bull. If you were REALLY interested in playing "extra" hardcore, you would refrain from making a workbench entirely.
So yes, the people who want to experience all of what this mod has to offer get priority.2) Improve compatibility with other mods
3) Add other features that are still yet to be included
4) Make stuff optional
Same thing applies. We will work on making things optional EVENTUALLY, but it's not top priority.
None of the original hand tools were based on that at all. Only the hatchets were based on that mechanic, because without it, they were useless, yet people still were clamoring for them to be added. However you are right that with saplings being your initial wood resource, the hand tools could become more useful.
I'm glad you like that concept. I'm looking forward to getting it included properly.
nice.
It will be.
That summed it up pretty nicely.
LOL "authors somewhere"
Hi. Mod director, right here. It's going in once we figure out how to do it. Glad I can count on you to support it.
So basically, you want us to make YOU a mod, instead of making something everyone will enjoy? Yeah, that type of attitude gets a gut-level "make it yourself" reaction out of me.
Unless it's an idea you support, of course. In that case I'm sure everyone who's voting in favor of it are just as intelligent, experienced, and educated on the subject as you are.
