0.01 Demo Release WARNING:
Backup your minecraft.jar before using this mod, especially if you use other mods! This is by no means stable, and will conflict with a lot of mods out there. Backup your .jar, and preferably your world file as well!
(Press E far away from anything important)
Known issues with this release:
-Custom skins will overlay the creeper skin. I have a Mythbuster creeper in my test world. Will be fixed/toggleable in final release, very easy, just forgot about it because MCP doesn't load custom skins.
-The player creeper does not expand like the normal one. I can't find the function that makes the normal creeper do this.
-Not ModLoader integrated. Very likely to cause issues with other mods.
-Explode keyname is strange in options menu.
Just a status update on the mod, for anybody who is interested.
I'm working on the next two items in my to-do list, making enemy mobs friendly and having them follow you, as well as having them attack enemy mobs (EDIT: I realize this made no sense, hah. I meant make them attack hostile miners). I'm having some bugs with my GetClosestEntityofType method though, so if there's a modder more experienced in Java willing to take a crack at this I'd be ecstatic. I think passing Class objects isn't a great idea.
On a non-technical side of the mod, the video on the front page jumped from 400 to over 2000 views overnight!
On the final release, I suggest migrating to ModLoader and allow it to use Settings API so you can toggle the mod on and off for Creeper and nonCreeper play. :biggrin.gif:
At least some Modloader support is likely, but toggling the mod I'm not sure... that would be really tricky to do. I'll look into it I guess. As a workaround for now you can have a Creeper and non-Creeper minecraft.jar and rename one to minecraft.jar when you want to play that flavor.
Awesome mod. I'd like to see this implemented in SMP and having a Mob Horde vs. Survivors multiplayer match, comparable to the versus mode in Left 4 Dead. Only with creepers, skeletons and climbing spiders
I also have a suggestion. I think it would be quite cool if the creeper would start to smile just a second before he'd blew up. Like the little creeper in this picture:
You could try to repurpose the Ghast code for that since their face texture changes when they are firing a fire bolt. You'd also need a countdown, as opposed to an instant explosion, so that the victim actually gets to see your smiling face before you'd blow him to kingdom come. The whole idea would only make sense in SMP, though.
I'd love to get this into SMP, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I know some SSP mods have made their way to SMP, but I'm not sure how to interface this with the server... I have a few ideas and I'll look into it after I finish this mod.
As for smiles, that wouldn't be too hard. I already have timing in explosions (the video on the front page is old), so I think it would just be a texture swap. I'll look into it, but right now I'm doing monster AI.
EDIT: I just realized how many times I say "I'll look into it", heh. Really, I will.
So... what are the gamebreaking glitches? i see none. Can i hold blocks? and make a makeshift trench for trench warfare?
*miner sneaking carefully over the dirt*
*Creeper pops out of a hole*
I haven't found any yet, besides crippling incompatibility with some mods (which will get even worse in later releases because I'll be modifying the mob classes as well). In first person view, you can barely even tell you're creeper (besides exploding, and no hands).
