That my friend stands for FORGE Mob Loader. What that means is that it's forge. So yes it is out but it's just not on the homepage.
Forge Mod Loader (or FML) is the loader that loads the mods into Minecraft.
MinecraftForge (or Forge as its more commonly referred to as) is the actual API that mod developers use to create their mod. This also runs in the background to help Forge mods work with other mods.
Only FML is out, so no developers can write Forge mods yet. I hope you know what they are now so you don't post false information.

No, Forge and FML are two different things... FML is a part of forge but not the whole thing.
I believe some mods can operate with just FML which is why Biomes O' Plenty has been updated to 1.8 for a month now but not all mods can.
Maybe this post will help you understand better?: http://www.minecraftforge.net/forum/index.php?topic=12972.0
Did you put it in the Minecraft.jar? Its not really recommended because of incompatibilities. If you download the forge version and put it in your mods folder, you might be able to fix it. If it is in the mods folder, then I might have read your crash report wrong.

No it hasn't yet. The "Forge" that released is FML or Forge Mod Loader. That loads the mods into Minecraft, but doesn't allow any development yet.
Well, it allows some development, but I'll agree not too much. Biomes O' Plenty has been [working] in 1.8 for about a month now. (Not even close to all of the features are there though yet as expected. only some tree blocks so far)
how in the world do i install the 1.8 version? That link did not help me to install at all
Two ways you can do this:
1. (The Easy Way): Download a custom launcher that makes installing mods a breeze. MultiMC is a good one I personally use.
2. (More Difficult Way): Quoted from the wiki, where you were supposed to read.
Installation for the new launcher
Open the new launcher and make sure the version of Minecraft the mod requires is already installed.
Click "Edit Profile" in the launcher, then open the game directory.
Go into the subfolder "versions".
Rename the folder for the version you require to something else. In this example, rename "1.6.4" to "1.6.4_Modded".
Open the 1.6.4_Modded folder.
Rename "1.6.4.jar" to "1.6.4_Modded.jar".
Rename "1.6.4.json" to "1.6.4_Modded.json".
Open "1.6.4_Modded.json" with a text editor and replace "id":"1.6.4" with "id":"1.6.4_Modded", save the file and close it.
Open the class files from the mod with an archiver such as WinRAR or 7-Zip and copy-paste the files into 1.6.4_Modded.jar. Do not close the archiver yet.

Delete META-INF and close the archiver.
Start the new launcher.
Click "Edit Profile"
In "Use Version", select "1.6.4_Modded".
Click Save Profile.
Login and play as normal.
I used the Xray mod to install Slime Mod, TMI, and Optifine A7 (just drag the mods onto the install jar in proper order). All worked fine for me. If you don't like the XRay with fly mode you can simply unbind the keys; I personally like its coordinates feature. It is here: XRay
I read the link he used on the "non-forge" thing, i've created a new profile and did everything the guide told me to but... what do i do next? Where do i put TMI and what not

You were just given 3 different ways above to do it if you'd follow the directions (not being sarcastic here but whatever we type will look just like the above directions). If you aren't comfortable manually inserting mod class files and editing .json files I suggest you use an auto installer (like XRay, MultiMC) or a launcher that helps you such as Magic Launcher ( was a good launcher but doesn't utilize inherits from so not fully compatible with many newer mods. If you use Magic Launcher you just need to click setup lower right, use the drop down to choose 1.8 MC version, use the middle mod section (not external mod) for best results by pointing (add button) to the TMI .zip location. Now just save and log in on the created profile. Magic Launcher is not compatible with LiteLoader at this time.
If it is easier to follow visually for you this is a good video showing the steps for manually inserting TMI.
Edit: I just realized that you are following the directions in the OP (they stop short of showing you opening the TMI zip and the newly created version jar and copying all the contents from the mod zip into the version jar and deleting Meta-inf. The above video shows this process and goes in line with the instructions Joshnoodle gave for the new launcher.

Can I please have help with this? The game would allow me to make a 64 stack of potions in previous versions of TMI, why can't I do it in 1.8?
1: Beacon GUI text is black, rather than white.
2: When completely underwater, the view turns white.
I'll upload some pics in another post here.
Sounds like a Resource Pack issue, not a TMI issue. Please check again.
Post your crash log on paste.ee or pastebin.com then link that log here.
