So basically, if we don't "donate", we don't get updates? (At least not every minecraft update, which are weeks, apart.) That's kinda...stingy, don't you think? Especially considering an awesome mod like this, where you are basically punishing the modding community for your own lack of "donations".

Umm, does me being new to THIS forum actually bring me to any sort of disadvantage when it comes to reasoning? I'm actually very experienced when it comes to forums. Yes, this account is new, but no, my experience with forums is not. Fail much?
Well, if you do want to see how awesome this mod is, then here's a world a generated using it. maybe you'll appreciate this mod more after you experience this: http://www.mediafire.com/?7eg8m4hn4od1tcr
Don't question the stuff that's in the inventory.

The points given still stand. Not really his though.
And your point about his personal situation not being a concern of yours because you don't know him is out of line since it is just this personal stuff that is the reason that he has not been able to fully keep up with the minecraft updates on all the mod versions. Not because of a "demand" for donations as you are implying.
Thank you! Finally somebody with a reasonable response, that's literally the only reason I was actually responding. To see retarded responses like the ones I was given. Those usually make my day. So thanks alot and :Diamond:'s to you!

So, basically, what you're saying is you're not just stupid, you're stupid and malicious.
You've just gone and admitted to trolling a guy because he's too busy to update something for free because he's taking care of his hospitalized father. Not the best way to make friends, buddy.
In other news, I started running a server with Lahwran's snapshot. Terrain generation does appear to work as intended. However, it also appears that his snapshot has a static seed, as it generates extremely similar terrain every time. Additionally, ore distribution does not appear to work. At least not fully. My ores are meant to cluster tightly into large single veins, but be much, much rarer. While coal was often in veins of 50 blocks, everything else was simply scattered everywhere like usual. With the exception of one large redstone vein. Not sure what to make of it.
Hello everyone. My father has gotten far worse or that work week I promised would've happened. I want to do a final update and upload the sources tonight, but there's an issue. I need a copy of the 1.4 server to transition the files to 1.4, and then to 1.5. We're still living back in 1.3 for most versions. Once I have those, I can do one final update and release the sources to the community until I can get through this personal crisis.
I'm not suggesting anyone illegally distribute the server to me, but I do need it and if anyone has a patch file or something it'd be much appreciated.
Thanks everyone, you guys have been super. If I can't get it out this week I'll be refunding this last month's donations.

THX!alot dude can you post more maps?=)
Uhm, ok. I probably put out more when the 1.5_01 version comes out.

I'm sure I echo most of the more mature crowd here when I say take as much time as you need.
I'll admit even I have a server that hinges on this mod, but alas, there are far more important things in life.
I am curious though, how do you mean server? I can't imagine you mean the standard Minecraft server, given that that's freely available from Minecraft.net. I'd be happy to help where I can, but I'm not sure how exactly I am to.
**EDIT; Ah, the 1.4 jar.. Pretty dense today, minimal sleep because I got a graveyard shift to fill tonight. Notch reallys should simply host a previous versions repository for any version in which verification-of-purchase security was not increased.
Take care of your dad, take care of yourself. Minecraft can wait - you can generate a zillion blocky worlds, but you only get one Dad.
Im pretty sure at least half a dozen people will send you the 1.4 minecraft server jar secretly, but if they don't, if you wander out into a very bluish green grass biome, it might fall from the sky.
Your friendly neighborhood Kingpin here...
Long time user, first time thread poster. Like many folks here on the thread, i was so very sorry to hear the news about your father. Id like to convey my best wishes to you and your family. Family is more important than ANYTHING as far as i am concerned (im Italian :tongue.gif:).
R-T-B
I am horribly sorry for your father. While I don't have any of my parents in the hospital, my grandmother fell over and broke both her tibula and fibula. Take all the time you need, and thank you so much for doing work on this mod, despite the outside intteruptions of far greater importance. I'm thinking of donating money the next time I get some yard work to do.

Okay, first I want to say that I was NOT trolling. I was simply stating my own honest opinion about what I actually read. (And I didn't read all of it) In fact, I never noticed he even edited what he said before I posted what I did, and that is totally my fault. You are also going to have to bear with my "immaturity" as I am only 14 years old. I wouldn't know alot about R-T-B's situation since I am fortunate enough to not experience what he is going through, and probably will someday. For that I am sorry to all those who believe I was trolling, I truly wasn't, and a personal apology to R-T-B. Sorry for the misunderstanding, and I feel terrible about it.

Apology accepted, and welcome to the thread for real this time! Got any cool BTM settings to share?
I really wish that Notch would host older versions to download, so that I didn't have to wait for mods to get updated every time Minecraft gets updated, and something stupid happens to minecraft.jar
I was actually going to ask about how the mod works. I also keep an un-updated .jar just for those mods that haven't updated and tried this mod out, but didn't understand it too well. I sort of got it, but mostly the only thing I understood was ore and mineral spawns, but that's basically it. Could someone explain it to me?

In short, the mod works by altering the default Minecraft land generation algorithms at runtime. It does not add any additional functionality, simply unlocks and allows you to tweak what is already there.
To work the mod, you simply alter the settings ini, which you seem to have a rudimentary grasp for.
The things you will want to edit most the first are Volatility 1 & 2, Horizontal and Vertical Fracture, weighting for volatility, and Biome Size.
There has been a number of explanations for how these things work, I'll explain in the terms I feel are most appropriate. Think of Volatility as being a modifier for simply how chaotic the generation is. High volatility will result in extremely varied terrain, sometimes limiting traversability. 1 & 2 are simply two settings for the same thing. The weighting decides how to spread them out. Having two identical volatilities means your terrain will always be the same degree of chaos. Having one high and one low, with weighting 75% (both weights must add up to 1) in the low one, will give you reasonable terrain, with 25% of the map getting to be much more chaotic. This typically gives you reasonable terrain to build on and traverse, with a good distribution of "epic" landmarks to build around or upon.
Fracture can be thought of a bit like this. Take a stick and bend it so you get a nice curve. Now bend it a little more.. And a little more. Pretty sharp curve there. Bend it a little more, and it snaps. Now you have two intersecting lines instead of one continue curve. This is fracture. The horizontal and vertical fractures adjust how quickly curves in the terrain snap from being two curves, to straighter lines.
Very high fractures yield overhangs, floating islands, straight cliffes, and vast flat fields. Tinker with these to find a balance, your best bet is simply experimenting.
The only other thing you may wish to consider is maxaverageheight and depth. This simply adjusts how high or low the terrain tends to go when the terrain is raising or lowering itself in generation. Deeper depths means sharper declines to deeper ocean floors. Greater heights means larger mountains and technically speaking more overall land to dig, but a closer skybox. Negative depths and the like can limit or remove oceans alltogether. Conversely, you can use these values to get shallower islands, and more of them, especially when combined with the water height variable. Again, tinker as you see fit.

Hopefully once sourcecode access comes out someone else can pick up the torch and you can get through your personal troubles.
