Are the default values similar to unmodded MC ?
I ask because all i wanna do, is change the ore distribution.
I want less ore veins, but bigger ones. (a bit like in real life)
Will this mod allow me to do that ?
Also I could not find anywhere the max/min values for all fields.
Thanks anyway, great mod, cant wait to use it.

If you copy and paste the code found under the part about cadde's ore distribution, that's pretty much what you'll get: Everything is in smallish ore distributions near the surface, but the further down you go the bigger they are and more rare they become. Just paste it over the current ore distributions except for the lapis lazuli ones. The example given hasn't been updated with those as of yet. I just copied the distribution for the redstone, since it's supposed to be only in the lower levels.
*Edit*: and couldn't you just delete the values and let minecraft decide how to utilize those parts? If the only thing you put in there is the distribution for ore the rest defaults back to minecraft...or am I just mistaken about that?
I figured I'd finally drop by and and leave a comment :smile.gif:
First off, I do apologize for having abandoned this mod and leaving a lot of people hanging without any answers or updates. I am relieved, however, to see that someone did pick it up and continue development/updates with it. I've never been a very skilled Java programmer as I never used the language outside of Minecraft modding, so it's definitely to everyones benefit that the mod was picked up by someone more skilled at Java than I.
As for what happened to me, I do feel I owe a lot of people an explanation. I did end up getting very sick for over a month and just never felt well enough to try and keep up with the BiomeTerrain mod at the time with how quickly updates were coming from Notch. I used this absence from Minecraft/modding as an excuse to hang up my hat with both the game and mods. I have a tendency to become overly obsessed with things that really interest me and can start to neglect other responsibilities because of this. Long story short: I started putting Minecraft ahead of things that were more important than a game. On top of this I started feeling like maintaining and developing the BiomeTerrain mod was becoming more like a job than a hobby. It had gotten complex enough that between updating it for every Minecraft update, researching the code, trying to add new features, testing, etc... I was consuming all the free time (I don't have a lot of that to begin with) I had just to keep up. I was never getting the time to even play Minecraft any more as all I had time for was working on the BiomeTerrain mod.
This had to stop and my lengthy sickness gave me the excuse I needed to get out. I felt horrible for abandoning all the people that enjoyed and used my mod and it bothered me for quite a while. It was some relief to me when I got news that someone else had taken up where I left off. I don't know if I will ever take up modding again, but I do hope to return to playing Minecraft one of these days. I've not actually played the game since early December, but it constantly calls to me. Though I think I'll make myself stick to just playing and enjoying the game next time. It does make me happy to know that I created something important enough that it continued on even after I left :smile.gif:
You're alive! :smile.gif: Great to hear from you, Bucyruss, and I totally understand where you're coming from.
I was wondering... do you still have the source code for BiomeTerrainMod as of your last update way back when, and if so could upload it somewhere? I would like to compare it against the latest versions R-T-B has been generously providing, and maybe use it as a leaping off point for me to get back into Java and do some mods of my own.
I figured I'd finally drop by and and leave a comment :smile.gif:
Bucyruss !!!!
Glad to see you here and checking in. Thank you, your sudden departure left some of us concerned about your well being, but I am glad to hear all is well.
R-T-B: Sorry to hear of your fathers illness, and I wish him a speedy recovery. many of us I am sure feel that family comes first, and then you can worry about the other things in life, like us =) So no pressure, as I discovered from my first attempt these updates are not only tedious, but extremely tedious. =) I should have my eclipse station finished up this week and should be able to start reviewing code again hopefully by this weekend. If I can just get one successful compile from sources OF BTM I will consider that my first hurdle, then I can concentrate are gaining a better understanding of the code to possibly assist with future updates.
well I am at work no so keeping it short.
AGAIN: Bucyruss, GREAT to hear from you and glad to hear your health is better now, and R-T-B keep your chin up, and know you have alot of well wishers here
EDIT: Bucyruss, I would second the request of your sources, if you would be so kind, but I would also understand if you preferred not to or if you have since lost that code. More code to compare the better in my eyes. =)

Of course I still have the source code :smile.gif: I religiously made a new copy and two backups on different machines in different locations for every revision of the mod and for every version of Minecraft that came out while I worked on it. I have some of the revisions here at work, but not sure if they are the last versions I did prior to getting sick. Here they are though:
Let me know if there are issues with either of those downloads or if you need any additional information about the classes in them. Fairly certain I did all my work in Eclipse and both those files should be the project folders for them. If I have anything newer it would only be updated class names to make them compatible with the few versions that came out between these and the launch of beta.

I went from feeling fine one day to unable to leave the bed the next. I spent the better part of December stuck in a bed and my wife wanting to take me to the hospital on more than one occasion. I, stubbornly, refused because I don't like hospitals. It really wasn't until January until I felt well enough to even consider returning to Minecraft and modding, but, as I mentioned above it was my way of getting out and getting back to enjoying my free time and spending more of it with my family. I'd thought about returning and letting everyone know what was up sooner, but always felt too guilty and just avoided it. I've been wanting to start playing Minecraft again lately and knew I'd have to make the above post at some point.
As you mentioned, these updates are very tedious with the lack of a proper API. I know that some tools/resources were (suppose to be) coming out around the time that I disappeared that have, hopefully, made it easier. I'd also started making changes to how I had the mod structured to try and make it easier on myself as well. It was still a huge pain in the ass when you are dealing with a large mod that isn't set up properly (thanks to my lack of skills with Java) to handle changes to class names easily. That amount of work double once I created a SMP version of the mod as well. I had resisted making one for a long time because I wasn't enthusiastic about having to do the same update twice every time a new version of MC came out, but too many people were asking for it to ignore.
I forgot to mention R-T-B in my first post :sad.gif:
First off, best wishes to you and your family. Hope your father does well and make a quick recovery.
Thanks a lot for picking up my mod and continuing to update it for the community :smile.gif:

We're honoured that you chose to tell us the circumstances of your illness and share the bit about overcommitting on this project. That takes some serious self insight and a bit of cojones to discuss with us Random Internet Strangers.
Truth is, BTM is a major project that happens to need revamping every update. It's worth it, but you need a team of folks to get something like this in shape and working, and keep it up to date. The fact that you managed to do as much as you did speaks a lot to the compulsive nature of this game, this particular mod, and your ability and character as a modder.
At the same time we are hoping that RTB's dad will be all right, and he in his own way has also gone above and beyond, running with what you built and keeping it alive. Perhaps making some of the same sacrifices you did, burning his health and youth at both ends to work on this. A man's gotta work, and he's gotta play, and he's gotta live and move and love his life. That's a balancing act. And not an easy or a fun one. I can hear what you're saying and glad you came back to check in with us, whatever decision you come to about working or benevolently neglecting this mod. I hope you continue staying well and ultimately find a balance between life's demands and the things you're passionate about.
edit:
Adding SMP was the Right Thing To Do. Any game or mod has much more replay value if it embraces social and/or multiplayer competitive play. Why build fantastic sand castles, or exotic alien worlds, unless you can explore them together with someone else?
And it was at this point all other things being equal, you would have been a lot better off with a second or maybe third person working on it with you. Therein lies the rub. Finding the right person with the right amount of enthusiasm for the project, Java knowledge and good communication skills to collaborate effectively - good luck.
I don't know if anyone would like to do this for me, but i'll ask anyway. Can someone upload a map generated with the mod that have BIG Oceans with islands with mountains on it(if it's possible)?
If using this map for an SMP server, I suggest using MCEdit to re-set the spawn point onto a tiny central island, it forces each player to set off and find their own territory!

Crunkatog's right - maintaining/updating this mod is a huge job, especially for mainly one person. It seems there are a few of us who would be willing to help out if only we knew the way to go about it most effectively. Ohmusama has done a superb job with the BBOB editor so far - I wonder if there are other big or small sections of the modding job that are somewhat self-contained, which could be similarly delegated? For example, I notice the wiki and the readme still say they need installation instructions for Mac... a minor job, but I'd be glad to write up some instructions.
Speaking of which, R-T-B we always appreciate your hard work!
Until R-T-B gets back, I'm semi-post postponing BBOB. I'm working on it in still, just won't be releasing anything as most of the features aren't supported by BTM anyway, yet. Part of my research has lead me to NBT, of which I just finished a DLL to read and write NBT files. (This is a possibility for how to deal with monster spawners, chest inventories, etc)
ugh I need a bukkit update several days ago ... how the hell do you do bukkit updates anyway? they don't provide their obfuscation mappings, which makes it next to impossible to do. I guess I need to convince ingiskhan to run javamapper on them or something :<

Just FYI, megaupload has a conflict with some adblock plugins. I opened this in IE 8 and the download began okay, but then popups for Party Poker started to appear and I couldn't close IE, had to ctrl-alt-del and manually kill IE.
Dropbox.com is probably better for this sort of thing. 2GB downloads/uploads free, you install a small client thingy that will upload automatically whatever is in it, when you establish a connection. My paranoid Linux roommate endorses it.
@Wessexstock what are your Terrain Mod changes for this world? I noticed the oceans were deeper and many of the continents had abrupt, cliffy edges that go from about 100 to sea level. MaxAvgDepth large positive integer value? I'm trying to do the same thing, large continents separated by large, unbroken ocean.
awesome can you tell me how you did pre-generate that map?
I used MinecraftLandGenerator, using an outdated minecraft server and an older version of BTM and it was quite complicated.

Well, IE is my sworn foe, but thanks for the tip anyhow.
Here is the BiomeTerrainModSettings.ini, as always, sometimes you get a lame map, sometimes it's amazing.
It's also configured for sparse trees and better ore distribution.
Bucyruss nice to hear from you! Glad to hear you're not dead or dying :smile.gif: Glad to have you back! Don't feel guilty about disappearing real life takes precedence over any video game :smile.gif:
This is my favorite mod, and even though I haven't used this mod since Alpha (because of the API issues and updates that you have spoken of), this will be a staple of my dedicated server once a stable and unchanging version can finally be released.
Best wishes and hope to see you around again :smile.gif:
First few days after the surgery were hell, but my dad is doing better right now (he's sleeping atm. :smile.gif: ) and I think I can get something done tonight. No promises but it would be nice!

Hey Wessexstock,
Could you possibly create me a pre-generated level with all floating islands for my server?
Using these settings:
Unfortunately your settings are giving me something very different, floating structures yes, but so much landmass underneath them there's almost no water at all.
[EDIT AGAIN] Hah, I'm having a terrible time trying to generate these floating islands, anyone know the secret?

When I generate floating island worlds, I notice that whether I get islands or land depends a lot on the initial seed. Sometimes I'll have to try several seeds before I spawn in a place that's completely made up of islands. For other seeds I'll just get mountainous land.

It's not really possible to get ALL floating islands, but you can get a BUNCH of them, I'll see what I can put together for you.
