*sob* If you're going to do patchers, at least make sure the majority of people are catered to. If I was on some bizarre Linux distro I could understand, and I could even understand leaving Mac support until last; but leaving Windows out (which the majority of Minecraft users use) kind of spoils the fun.
But I was so desperate to use this mod, I installed cygwin (like Wine, only in reverse) and I will let people know if it fails.
EDIT: Cygwin was a failure. The .class files caused a blackscreen.
I can see why MrMessiah uses a patcher, because he has a variety of different mods the user can choose between and distributing 24 different copies of the .class files would be awkward.
I can also see why Xau uses a patcher -- he has many different options too.
I shall wait as patiently as possible for a windows patcher for a mod which looks this amazing.
The main problems are:
1: He uses a mac. Its only understandable that he creates a mac-only patcher.
2: I understand that it uses GLSL, which is OpenGL. Windows uses DirectX, not OpenGl (In my opinion OpenGL is better) and so it does not have much support for it.
Mojang runs these servers and the admins already explained why they don't pull the mods. The patchers are the result of an individual trying to sell something to Markus and getting shot down, pulling his mods on his own, and then trying to save face that he had found the path of purity.
The #2 priority of Mojang is to get a proper modding API out. After that the current mod methods will no longer be needed. Until then you can either make life for people harder or just do what the other modders do. I personally don't care since I already extracted your class changes and eagerly await the mod api.

Windows has OpenGL. Support comes from your graphics vendor.
As someone who had to do a ridiculous amount of witchcraft just to get mods to work on Mac OS X 10.5.8, I'm happy to see that the windows people now have to share in on Mac pain.
Nice mod, things turn out pretty particularly with hi-res textures & betterlight + bettergrass.
FYI- I'm running under linux and all I had to do was make sure i had a jar utility (I installed fastjar via apt-get) and I also had to tweak the jar parameters in your primary install.sh so that the target files are . instead of ./
Hey, I too am having trouble with the zipped version of the mod. Using unmodified minecraft.jar, deleted the meta-inf, the replaced the class files. I get a black screen upon world generation, then minecraft stops responding. Windows 7 64 bit, and an ATI Radeon Mobile 5650 if that is my problem at all.
I'm having the same problem here as well, with an ATI Radeon HD 4650 & Windows 7 32-bit.
Everyone bitching about no Windows patcher, give the guy some time, jesus. And don't blame him for trying to respect Notch's wishes.
To the OP, thanks for working on this, from the screenshots posted it looks incredible.
He doesn't redeem it as illegal as there's a modding section on the forums it seems.
I'm going to be working on a windows installer here soon, probably in bash or java.

Great Mod By the way!

Dax asked me to port his installation scripts to windows and I don't typically dabble in .bat scripts. Sorry for any problems, a better solution will be out tonight.
=== Windows ===
Double click on install default.bat to patch.
If your Minecraft.jar is located in an usual location, open command prompt and run install.bat \path\to\your\minecraft.jar
Yeah, it uses GLSL now. The installer is certainly in dire need of attention from me. I completed the mod itself and was in a hurry to get it out. I'll be working on it over the next few days.
no! no installer! it doesn't need your attention! get rid of the installer and distribute the mod itself, for god's sake!
Redistributing modified Minecraft class files isn't legal (and is specifically listed as prohibited in the "Read Before Posting" thread), and while other modders may do it, I won't. I'll make installing this mod as painless as possible. Just give it a little while.
I will never use mods with a custom installer. Ever.
Instead, how about you listen to what he suggested the first time: Use ModLoader and Javassist and patch it live. There are three benefits: One, it doesn't need to have an installer for every platform. Two, it doesn't need to be reinstalled after another mod is installed. Three, it's still not distributing the game files, but allows a drag-and-drop installation.

Oh, sorry. Didn't know that. Im more of a Linux/Mac person.
Come back when you are not so inappreciative and when you can write a good sentence.
Kthxbye.
Nothing else describes it, it adds a strange beauty to the world of Minecraft. Keep up the good work!

Notch does not approve of patchers. He approves of people using his modding api when it comes out.
Exactly, but the modding Api hasn't come out yet. Once Notch releases it no doubt patchers will become virtually non-existent.

I also included my modified shader (more realistic use of DoF).

#!/bin/sh is not always bash, and in e.g. zsh, there is no “source” builtin
Ah I see. I'll get this fixed. Thanks!
Yep, I realized this and have already changed it in my copy. :tongue.gif: I'll update this along with the installer update tonight.
I believe Azraeil now has a working Windows installer. I'll be posting an improved version that doesn't require the JDK later tonight.

Feel free to use the windows installer I provided. It's the Dax-supported temporary fix!
