Hm, curious. I don't usually have any problems with mods, I have like 14 and have them all working perfectly, but this is giving me problems.
I noticed, on my main map, that grass (not your grass, just the green stuff on top of blocks) has stopped spreading.
I went and loaded my clean unmodded jar, and it worked fine.
I installed my mods in lots of 4 to see if I could find the problem, and it was fine until I installed the BGBL patcher, and this.
So I tested it with just BG/BL, and it worked fine. I made sure I had your BG/BL version of wildgrass, and made sure I installed yours last, after the patch. No dice.
So to sum up, without your mod, my grass spreads, but with yours, even the correct version installed correctly (I think? it works fine, I can see the wildgrass) grass stops spreading.
Any ideas?
Thank you for testing that! I noticed this yesterday, actually, but it's such a pain for me to edit .jars that I was waiting to test it out. And yes, I have the same issue. In addition, it seems that for me, both the green texture on top of dirt blocks as well as your grass have stopped working altogether. I have a lot of single-high wild grass crosses but nothing higher. It's like neither are growing at all. I'm running BL/BG/SM from the esteemable MrMessiah, BiomeTerrain Mod by Bucyruss (another 'near essential' mod for me), Breathing Apparatus by dougbenham as well as an edited Glimmar's Steampunk texture pack. I doubt that my small list of mods are really affecting yours BUT just in case. Better to give too much info than not enough.
And it's not really causing me that much issue, to be honest. A few patches of grassless dirt I'll stand for the charm this mod adds.

Yes, just to confirm also, I noticed this and removed Wild Growing Grass by installing a saved Bin file and for a few minutes was worried that the save had been corrupted as normal grass wouldn't grow back! It eventually did I'm happy to report. :smile.gif:

hmmm... that is interesting. I am about ready to upload a new version, with grass height adjusted by biome, and even grass that can grow a little taller than one block, but I think I will wait until I can solve this bug.
Ok, a few questions.... Does the flat grass stop spreading ONLY when you are using other mods, or also when my mod is installed by itself. Also, is what about the non-BL+BG version? I would test this myself, but I can't right now.
I'm trying to get an idea of what is causing it to do this. I know exactly where the code for flat grass spreading is in the code, so I should be able to solve this rather easily.

I just tested with your non-BGBL version on a clean install with no other mods, destroyed a large 4x10 area, and waited a few minutes. No flat grass spread :sad.gif:.

Same results D:
Ok, I got the same result. I did some troubleshooting too. And I noticed it doesn't do it in my testing environment, only in the "real" minecraft. I have also determined that the problem occurs when the block tries to access the light level above it. (it needs a light level of at least 4 to grow flat grass) For some reason, this doesn't work when I re-obfuscate the code. I can fix it if I remove the light requirement for flat grass, but then grass would grow even in dark lit areas. I am working on a way to bipass using the Mincraft Coder's Pack.
This is now upgraded to v5.0 Grass is height adjusted and grows according to Biomes. Sparce in low temperature and low humidity and thick and tall in high humidity and temperature. Grass can even grow up to 1.6 blocks high in the rain forest.
As of now, I fixed it so flat grass will spread once again. The only thing is that it may spread to dirt blocks that are even it low light environments.
Tall grass now also spreads as desired (for now) Faster in wet / hot biomes, slower and shorter in cold, dry biomes.
This is the BEST update so FAR!
I've also added a BL only compatible version for those of you who do not like the BG mod.
INSTALLATION
The grass height is saved even when this mod is not installed. If you want to start fresh with brand new loaded grass, that is generated by the proper version. Then download the Wildgrass_reset mod. Install that mod, play the game for a bit, then uninstall it, and use the WildGrass mod you prefer.
Very nice! I'm updating my texture pack yet again to keep up to date with this, I love it that much.
I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature, but the grass no longer grows beneath fenceposts or flowers.
It's sorta painted my fenced green landscape with big clashing brown lines of dirt. Personally I thought the grass growing up through the fence made it look even cooler, but at the very least, it'd be nice to have flat grass growing under the fenceposts again.
As far as the flowers go, this is purely aesthetic to me. I think it looked nicer when the tall grass was growing on the same tile as the flower, instead of having bald patches in a meadow for a few flowers here and there.
Compared to what this update has added to the game these are mostly minor nitpicks, but I thought I'd report/give feedback on 'em anyway in case they were bugs. Overall I'd have to say this is becoming my favorite mod though, keep up the great work!

You've made some great points. Especially about the fences. With graphics like reeds it created a flashing effect when grass grew under them. I never saw it do it on flowers, but I can't be sure. I will make sure to allow it to grow under fences soon, not sure why regular grass didn't grow there though. Thank you for the great points and the encouragement.
Thank you all for your great input and for loving my mod so much, lol.
On my world have dirt without grass in random spots. Usually it's near rock, but I'm not sure. Don't actually matter to me, but I guess I should report it.

Is that on a fresh install of MC? New world? Old World? Previously Modded with WildGrass? Using Other Mods?
It also may just be temporarily, the dirt may turn to grass eventually. Keep me posted.

Well, it's not a fresh install, it's a new world, but I didn't create a new one after adding Wild Grass v5. It was modded with wild grass v4 and I have 40+ mod installed. XD
Why is flatgrass still not spreading for me? :sad.gif:
I downloaded the reset, Vanilla and BL/BG versions. First tried the BL/BG version on my fully modded save, no dice. Same results as yesterday.
Then tried the reset on my BL/BG file. No wild grass, but also no flatgrass spreading. Tried just the reset file on a fresh .jar that had never seen wildgrass before, still no flatgrass spreading.
Tried the vanilla version on another fresh install, wild grass pops up, but still after 5 minutes of staring at a big rectangle of dirt, no flatgrass spreading. And yes, the dirt was surrounded by grass :biggrin.gif:!
I would definitely use this mod if it were simply visual. as I don't often use mods that change my world generation or saves.
I know you were considering drawing 2d grass over the grass blocks, do you think you could do this for a clientside visual mod? I'm always looking for ways to make minecraft more impressive (and support for 32x32's would be great too :biggrin.gif:)
The mod looks fantastic.
(if you simply drew the 2d grass would it still be able to grow and be biome-modded and such? also would there still be empty spots so that it isn't too crowded? these things are important to me :tongue.gif:)
It was messed up. All of the grass was displayed as small green rectangles. After installing it, half of my objects turned invisible, and couldn't be un-invisibilised!

Requires ModLoader.
