Just one or two observations for tinkering: the grass can't be cut back when growing through my laid out redstone dust and any grass that grows up on the same square as another plant, eg reeds or the two plants, kind of flashes when your viewpoint pans from side to side. These are little things set against a beautiful mod, but incase you've not noticed! Thanks again for all your efforts. Now if I could just get my Breathing Apparatus and Decaying Leaves mods to work with the new BetterLight mod I'd be dancing!
Glimmar, thanks for spotting that. I know exactly what is causing this. I keep fixing it but forget to add it in the current version. I will try to remember to stop erasing this.lol
I was so excited when i saw this became compatible with bettergrass and AO, but soon i was dissapointed yet again; This mod is also incompatible with Timeroot's Smart Stairs mod. :sad.gif:
Is it possible for this to get a merge, or should i just choose one and wait until the official modding support is added?

Well, the thing is.. almost every mod is going to alter the RenderBlocks class, which is used to handle most block related drawing. If a mod uses a new type of block, that needs a custom model or drawing attribute. It will clash with this mod. If I could find a way to make this mod work with all of them, and not overwrite the original file, I would. I am terribly sorry. I suppose if enough of a specific mod get requests for compatibility like the AO and better grass, I could do it.
Side note: I notice in the new update, the grass is not growing as thick as it used to. and looks quite sparse, as seen in the above "Gerudoku Texture" pictures. I have made a few adjustments to get the thicker grass in the next update.
Learning from my mistakes. I read the thread and couldn't find this, so I apologize if I skimmed past it somehow. Does this work with BL+BG ONLY or can I just install BetterLight and leave off the BetterGrass part? It's hard for me to tell distance without definitive edges on levels but I really like the BetterLight mod and this grass mod looks really good. Also, I'm going to try my shaky hand at editing Glimmar's terrain myself. I hope I don't mess up TOO much.

I actually agree with you on this. I actually don't really like to use the better grass mod myself, but really love the Better Lighting. Maybe I can make a menu option like there is for fancy graphics to enable and disable these mods in game? There's an idea.
Could you please make this not relian on terrain.png? I tried a few times but all I got where those olive-green boxes as grass that everyone was talking about, even when I made sure to use Gimp to edit the terrain.png files.
So, looks like I'm waiting until you don't make it reliant on terrain.png.

If you can think of any mod that actually does this, let me know. I have been searching, and trying to figure out a way to do this.
Believe me, if I could, then I would!
Since, I know a lot of people would like to use this mod with their custom texture packs, and are having trouble getting it to look right, I am going to explain this again, as simply as I can.
If you are using a custom texture through the "in-game" texture loader, then you MUST add the grass texture to the terrain.png that is INSIDE the mod's ZIP folder. The one that is inside the texturepacks folder, NOT the default "minecraft.jar"
For example, if the texture pack you are using is called "BobsAwesomeCraft.zip" then extract the terrain.png from the BobsAwesoemCraft.zip so you can edit it. Then in your image editer (one that supports transparency) past my grass sprites in to the same exact location that is is in my terrain.png, into your new terrain.png, and erase the pink background that is in its place.(right under the crop sprites). After you have created your new terrain.png, RE-INSERT it back into "BobsAwesomeCraft.zip" and OVERWRITE the one inside there. If you then select this texture pack in-game it should work.
Yes, and so do all mods that require the Modloader. Including the old mod "Spider nests." This actually created custom mobs that where spawned from spider nests that appeared after worldgen.

Hi there, I registered just to give you kudos on this mod! It gives Minecraft a surprisingly lush, alive feel, and really softens the whole landscape nicely. Excellent work!
Also, I agree with this sentiment:

If you could release a version that works with only BL installed, you would have my undying love and respect. Or do what you suggested and make a menu option; either or. Great work once again, this is definitely my favourite Minecraft mod.

Thank you, I will definitely release a version for BL only.

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!
Can you make a 2 high thick version too? :biggrin.gif:
This i also definitely on my to do list, right after I figure out how to utilize the biome settings to adjust grass height variables. (don't really see the point in shoulder high grass in the snow or desert) I think it would be a lot of fun in those highly dense wooded jungle areas though! I think my first priority right now will be getting a unique "wildgrass.png" file functional since I know many people use custom texture files. I think these three points sum up my short term goals at this moment.
I'm normally very reluctant in using mods that alter gameplay in any way (easier to farm seeds for this), but this is just too awesome to not be as essential as MrMMod's.
I guess I'd better get altering my texture pack to support this!

How is it easier to farm seeds...? The grass is not wheat.

I didn't say it was. Hit the tallest grass in this mod with a hoe and see what happens.
Each height of grass has a chance to drop seeds, and hitting the grass with a hoe only decreases it by one height. So you can get a lot more seeds without having to actually till a field that you later need to stomp out for grass to return. It's a very minor alteration, but with the mod it's much easier to get seeds now that each grass block has a chance to drop up to 6 seeds or so. (though you're more likely to get about 1-3 per block, which is still more than vanilla)
Seeing as how I don't really have much of a need for seeds on my main map though, the visual effects are well worth this very minor gameplay change for a gameplay purist like myself.

Ah, i see. this info is very handy; i can now see why some other mods i have were having some incompatibility with BG & AO. I think i'll just use this and BG/AO, then remove other mods altering renderblocks class until official modding support hopefully solves this problem.
Also, thanks for your work on this mod :smile.gif:

Hm, curious. I don't usually have any problems with mods, I have like 14 and have them all working perfectly, but this is giving me problems.
I noticed, on my main map, that grass (not your grass, just the green stuff on top of blocks) has stopped spreading.
I went and loaded my clean unmodded jar, and it worked fine.
I installed my mods in lots of 4 to see if I could find the problem, and it was fine until I installed the BGBL patcher, and this.
So I tested it with just BG/BL, and it worked fine. I made sure I had your BG/BL version of wildgrass, and made sure I installed yours last, after the patch. No dice.
So to sum up, without your mod, my grass spreads, but with yours, even the correct version installed correctly (I think? it works fine, I can see the wildgrass) grass stops spreading.
