I guess today was the wrong time to install it if it isn't up to date with the latest release? I just installed it and now my minecraft screen goes black when ever i log in.
Out of curiosity where are the backups kept so i can revert until this mod is updated?
Sorry, but vanilla Minecraft doesn't make or keep backups.
The day before I got this mod, Minecraft updated to 1.4.6. No problem! MultiMC allows you to downgrade to any previous version of Minecraft. So I started a new instance, downgraded to 1.4.5 and installed SPC (with a bit of mucking around with the com folder and some class files). Works great. I can't recommend MultiMC highly enough, much simpler and more stable than Magic Launcher (for me).
Now I want to downgrade to an even earlier version of MC so I can try a pre-butchered version of SPC WorldEdit is what I'm interested in. A version in which the wand and brushes work properly and where you can bind WorldEdit commands to keystrokes.
Could any SPC experts give advice on the best older version of SPC to downgrade to? (I'm assuming that any save I create with earlier MC can be used in MC1.4.6.)

1.2.5 is by far the most complete SPC. The Command list under the spoiler is for that version.

Try 1.2.5 with the current WorldEdit. It should make little difference, but if you have WE problems that's where i'd look.

You don't need a backup, when you open Minecraft click options (above login) and click force update then just log in.
I am having troubles with setting //pos1 and //pos2. Whenever I try to set blocks within the area I select, it adds blocks in un-selected areas. PLEASE HELP! btw I did try using the //wand but that didn't work either.

So you're saying downgrade to Minecraft v1.2.5, but rather than using the SPC that was available back then (v3.2.2), use the most recent version of SPC (ie, v4.3 for Minecraft 1.4.5). And if there's any trouble try the old version of SPC.
Is that what you meant? I'm a bit of a noob here...

He's saying to use the current version of ~WorldEdit~, with the older version(s) of SPC. If you attempt to use SPC 1.4.5 on Minecraft 1.2.5, you'll have errors, and likely see the "Black screen of death" or the "Notepad page of doom!" screen.
...and yes, I took a moment out of my vacation time, to post just to let you know this... so feel special.
For the people asking for updates. Read the OP and read the rules about asking for updates.
Sparky, you know that few people ever read the first post. Otherwise, they'd know that Simo made SPC open source, and has most likely stopped development on the mod.
So for those asking: "When is the 1.4.6 updating coming?", the only answer to give them is: "Unless Simo decides to make one, never.".
I don't want to sound ungrateful or impatient (I LOVE this mod) but is there a approximate date for the 1.4.6 release date? Im only asking because I would LOVE to get back to using this awesome mod!
EDIT: Sorry, didn't read about posting for an update. Fingers crossed you do keep making this mod though, its awesome!
For some reason, using the worldedit wand doesn't work. Neither does the compass. All commands, including worldedit commands, DO work though. It worked once the first time, but the second time opening minecraft the worldedit want would not work. Help would be appreciated. Thanks

xXTerra_BranfordXx is correct on both counts. The version of SPC you use must match the version of MC (McNostalgia) you use.
I would try MC & SPC 1.2.5 (if you're going to change to 1.4.6 once your word progresses, what difference does it make? You will lose SPC with 1.4.6 as things now stand) . I'd use the most current version of WE regardless of the MC/SPC version.
Well over half of SPC's commands quit working with MC 1.3.?. Some of the current commands are problematic. If SPC is temporary I'd use 1.2.5 and keep my world exploration to a minimum. Once you move to 1.4.6, new chucks will benefit from all the 1.4.6 updates.

At the moment I don't understand you, and I really need to. I have MultiMC on which I have many different instances with different collections of mods, eg, Feed the Beast magic pack, etc. I want to use WorldEdit (any version, the best version) to make saves that I can bring into later games in , eg, 1.4.2, 1.4.5, 1.4.6, whatever. Is this realistic, or can saves made in 1.2.5 only be played in MC1.2.5?
I don't get the part of your post that I've bolded. How does one "use the most current version of WE regardless of the MC/SPC version" if they are the same thing?
WorldEdit is a plug in... It doesn't matter what version of SPC you use it with.
The wands are difficult to use beyond 1.2.5. The wands are WE but controlled with SPC.
I use SKMCLauncher I have multiple MC versions. Believe me 1.2.5 is the best for interaction between SPC and WE.
1.3 screwed up a multitude of things,
The WorldEdit packaged with 1.4.5 works with 1.2.5! But YOU must add it to the MC\bin! This is true for EVERY launcher/patcher I've seen!
I have working MC versions from 1.6.6 to present!
You're making this harder than it is!

Good luck to those who decide update the mod with the open source version.

But how can this be done? When I downloaded SPC, the WorldEdit commands were just part of MPC. You're saying that they can be chopped and changed?
