Alright for all you complainers minimap is updated to use modloader again and the super happy excited fun party time is not enabled by default.
Which sucks for people sticking with 1.3.01 waiting for their SMP servers to catch up. Thanx, br0! At least deleting mod_ZanMinimap.class is a simple enough fix.
@laijka: It's a bit hard to dismiss something that's literally game breaking and has multiple threads in the support section as a simple harmless prank, especially given how there's no obvious indication as to what's causing it aside from the date (no, setting the system clock is not an acceptable workaround) - MOJANG has been blamed for it, even. This idiocy is perfect justification for finally adding proper mod support to minecraft, as if the whole password-leak thing wasn't enough.
GuiAPI 0.9.7c still breaks it regardless whether or not Zan's is installed. Have deleted every setting file and running with only ModLoader and GuiAPI. Did you hide a setting file somewhere, too, lahwran? >:ohmy.gif:
When the 'bug' occurred, I was suitably displeased. Being the industrious paranoid that I am, however, I have a 'modder folder' where I put the contents of all the mods I use, piecemeal, so that if something bugs out on me, I can easily remove the afflicted files (Bless the magic that is Ctrl+Z) and figure out what's wrong.
It only took me about five minutes of going through the folder, and remembering the date (thanks to a 'There is a stranger giving away cake in the Inn' gag on Vindictus at precisely 12:00 AM EST) I had a hearty chuckle, decided I'd bother fixing it tomorrow (IE at a more reasonable hour than two in the morning) and went to bed.
The fact that Lahwran's willing to continue modding despite all of the downright hostility I've seen since the date-change is a testament to his will. I certainly would reconsider it, if I had any modding skills beyond basic pixel manipulation. Regardless of what you might personally think, I saw this as a well-done April Fool's joke, doubly so for the fact that he had it planned out from, as far as I can tell, some five days or so ago when I downloaded the mod.
If you took personal affront from this, I don't blame you. I was pissed off myself, at first. If you continue to be pissed off when the matter is resolved and straightened out, well, that's your inability to get over a gag, not mine.
Have a link to historical April Fools jokes, if you haven't tl;dr'd or aren't ignoring the rest of my post because you're too busy penning a thoughtfully sarcastic hatespeech in reply: April Fools Pranks, Jokes, and Ruses Throughout History
This little prank also gave me one of my personal favorite 'wtf' screenshots when I was testing the extent of the fisheye effect.
(Yes, that's the actual size of the picture.)
I should've gone to the top of my tower after I figured out how to control the game with this active and taken a snap of it from up there, but alas, the idea comes too late.
You fooled me quite well, Lahwran. Hat's off to ya.

Just call me Crow.
If you think any of the above post sounded angry, go back and read it in your head as if it's being spoken by Jeff Goldblum explaining his plan to defeat the aliens in Independence Day.
it still don't work i have every thing done correctly i am going to try using winrar instead of winzip
and t still dont work
all i have is MLgrass fix and zans minimap
Or your minecraft could be screwed because this mod maker thinks its funny.
Just felt like pointing out, if Lahwran really wanted to "get you" (or screw up your minecraft) - he's had plenty of time to do so before now. The fact that he continually provides, free of charge and out of his own time, these mods, should be validating enough.
it was an April fools day joke, chill the f*ck out.
Trust is a delicate matter. You earn it hard, but once broken, it hardly can be restored.
And a sense of humor is apparently not something every one have.
When it's apparent that it's a joke, like a sheep popping up and and blowing in your eyes, it's one thing. It's cute and adorable, but in my mind, I can't imagine spending even a second trying to "fix" it.
When your screen get distorted and overall looks like it's a software/driver/PC problem, it's completely different matter. I *do* know I didn't do something weird, and sixteen years of IT/techservice experience tell me this shouldn't happen out of the blue. As much as impulsive i'm, I first make sure I didn't made a fool of myself, so here I'm sitting with all the tools on hand digging through the code and repacking mods this and another way. If I tell what 3 hours of my time worth, I don't think anyone would like to cover my wasted time.
And no one forces you to play with mods.
So, you tell me to shut up and let everyone create pranks at will? And defeat the modding purpose in the root? Am I getting it right?

16 years of IT and tech support experience, and your first instinct was to dig apart the code? Who were you doing IT work for, so I know to avoid them in the future?
Seriously, though, as far as I'm aware, when something goes wrong suddenly, you start backtracking to figure out where the problem came from. If I hook up a new monitor and suddenly everything is shaded green, I'm not likely to go checking the motherboard video connections before I've had a look at the monitor I just plugged in.
I do agree with your statement about trust, however. Funny thing is, trust built on massive input from one side of the "relationship" and no input from the other shouldn't be as easy to destroy as all this.
I'm not likely to go checking the motherboard video connections before I've had a look at the monitor I just plugged in.
I installed GuiAPI 0.9.7c when it was made available March 13th, and the graphic glitch began while I was actively playing the game. Much like the one to whom you replied, I had no reason initially to believe a mod was the problem and spent a good while checking drivers and Java files before wiping the whole thing and going piece by piece before deducing the source of the issue.
Did everyone do this? No. Don't exaggerate. And yes, I'm telling you to shut up, stop crying and let it go. A prank was pulled and you fell for it. That is all.
One is more than enough. Before we could have laughed at Notch trying to defeat modding community, now it rings a concern.
I'm not likely to go checking the motherboard video connections before I've had a look at the monitor I just plugged in.

Ok, ok, maybe it's just me, then.
If I'm playing a game, and the video goes berserk (randomly)... I worry. When I quit the game and everything goes back to normal, that (effectively) rules out the monitor, cables, card, and connection.
At that point, I'd start the game back up. In this case, it'd repeat its tom-foolery, and I'd shut it down again. I'd open another game - preferably one that uses Java and D3D (or is it OGL for Minecraft?) and then I'd see it was most likely the game.
I'd run it vanilla, and see no nasty side effects.
I'd add in my mods, one at a time, until things got nasty.
Now, granted, I'm not a 16-year-expert, nor do I run with more than six or seven mods - but that, to me, seems the most logical manner of going about things, and I would estimate it to run me about... oh, twenty minutes or so.
That said, this is just my point of view. I don't endorse or condemn Lahwran's sense of humor. Also, thank you for being civilized in your disagreement - a trait that seems sorely lacking on forums.
EDIT:
Lahwran, if you haven't given up on reading this thread yet (and if this suggestion hasn't been implemented yet) could you rotate your minimap so that north is up? I recall that being the only reason I went with MCAutoMap over your nicer (smaller/cleaner/integrated) solution. Thanks!
Since it's unlikely any of the mods made for versions prior to 1.4 are ever going to get fixed, and because the only thing of his worth using is the minimap, I won't be using his mods any longer.
CJB has a minimap mod which doesn't require GuiAPI and thus subjecting yourself to the whim of Lahwran. I will be using it from now on, and others can acquire it here: viewtopic.php?f=1032&t=220320

1. I already made the prank optional. ZanMinimap is a popular mod, I'm not stupid enough to do a prank like this on any other day but april 1st.
2. even if I make it use guiapi, does it seriously bother you *that much* to scroll up and download one more mod? I mean for god's sake it's on the same page.
3. I'm working on updates. They're not as fast as they could be at the moment as I'm also spending a fair amount of time browsing the forums to see the effects of april 1st, but I have far from abandoned my mods.

Turn on square map in the options and north will be up.

I guess I should have just installed it and looked for myself. Rotating directions... derp. All is well, then. Thanks!
Also, either GUIAPI or ZMM has apparently switched plank with sponge, and at least one other block (both SSP and SMP). Very strange.

the latest minimap has it as an option if you want to mess around with it more. it does not save the option though, so if you turn on april fools mode and restart the game, it will be back off.

Ah, but then that beautiful pocket-watch skin will be unavailable (*small tears*). I'm guessing, though, that now for the circular skin, north is to the upper-right?
yeah, I need to give some love to square map.
