well, I partially agree, but the only other alternative is to write an occlusion-culling system to run just before chunks are downloaded. that would be incredibly hard to pull off both efficiently and helpfully - you could fairly easily mask underground blocks, and then fairly easily mask blocks by distance, but in order to make it capable of masking whole caves you need a much, much more complex algorithm, which would take a lot of effort to write and may end up not performing fast enough.
Seems like a lot of work to appease a few mods, and take something away from solo non-server players.
Now that said, it needs to be done anyway. however, I can tweak a few boolean values in the minimap much more easily than I can write something that destroys xray on servers (though that's hardly a low priority either).
Again I am fuzzy on why it needs to be done, I never got the impression the mod was specifically meant for multi-player servers. If its banned, it's banned. I wouldn't mind making a version with Cave Mapping just stripped out for those that play on MP servers, but leave a version with it intact for us single player people.
you could also make the case that having a minimap at all is cheating. many do. many serves will permaban for saying that you use the minimap already, cave mapping or not.
If it's cheating anyway, why nerf it at all? Or at least consider an uncensored version for single player users and the few servers that won't care.
I really like this mod regardless of what you choose to do, so thank you for all the hard work.
Yeah, I'm sure this has been addressed but PLEASE make a version without the built-in x-ray hack.
I've been using your mod for a while, but now mods on several servers I play on have announced that anyone caught using your minimap mod will be banned. The server allowed the previous minimaps but the addition of a built in x-ray hack was too much. Please make it a separate option.
After I installed Modloader then WorldEditUCI I crash half the time I join a server or play in SP. Is this a bug with the mod or is it just me? [Diamond]
dunno if this is a bug or not.
for the minimap addon is there a way to display waypoints for square map setting?
or is there a way to stop the round map from moving around?
I have to ask the same thing.
Each time I install the mod the Waypoints seem to move between square and circle mode and I can not stand the spinning circle. I like my north to always be stationary. Any idea on how to fix this?
If I may, I'd suggest keeping this version for those who play SSP and making the nerfed version for those playing online. I see no reason single player users should suffer because of server requirements. Just my two cents.
i am a linux user and i have evrything updated on my end including my lwjgl and when ever i try to use a mod that uses it i get a blackscreen or the game will frees when i go into the modoptions menu i really would like an explanation to what is going on here because evry other mod will work
hey sorry for not reading thru 129 pages to find out if this was already suggested/asked about/proved impossible, but i have two feature suggestions for mini map:
1- is it possible to get world info from the server you are playing on and use it in the name of the waypoints file to differentiate online worlds? example: on my lan i connect via 'localhost'. if i make a waypoint on a map it gets saved in 'localhost.points'. if i change maps on my server (or run bukkit multiverse) it still loads 'localhost.points' and the waypoints for my other world show up. if it saved 'localhost_worldname.points' then we could use waypoints on our lans/multiverse servers etc. other than that, this mod works perfectly online.
2- would it be possible at all to have an option to assign a waypoint to a player(s) on your current server and remember their name/color just like a normal waypoint?
again, sorry if these have been gone over a million times but 129 pages is a pretty intimidating read. thanks for any info...and for picking up this essential mod and keeping it alive.
Hello. I'm here to ask you of something. I have used your minimap before, and it is quite impressive compared to what others have done. However, less talented moders have come up with a new idea, editing the pumpkinblur.png file under .minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar/misc. Doing this results in a cool new overlay to your ui, when wearing a pumpkin hat. As seen here, Halo overlay. Now, for people who want minecraft to be as realistic as possible, where did the floating minimap come from? Perhaps if every helmet had an overlay, and the minimap was placed over the radar area of the Halo helmet, that could be a cool option. For maybe gold and higher helmets have radar. That could add some loose explanation for the minimap while making gold armors have a real concrete benefit for being created. We all know our charaters are rocket scientists. After all, they can make guns, airplanes and cast magic spells with a small box and a saw. That's my idea, thank you for reading.

First one sounds like an interesting idea, I could use the world seed (assuming craftbukkit updates it properly when worlds change).

Lol what? you want realism for a minimap? that said, I could maybe make a square-map version of the current overlay and use that.
The latest Worldedit CUI gives a 404... But great mods!
Yeah, why is that?

I'm looking to know about this too. The GUI is great and it helps prevent stupid mistakes. :smile.gif:

I wish you would disregard all the people crying about how cheap it is. Honestly I just want an update and I don't want features removed...
I don't mind if you take out the cave mapping. But all the other features, I liked.

My Mod-Pack
I hate to be a pain. I'm hoping this will be available soon so I can do a youtube tutorial with it turned on...
Only if you play on a server which...
*gasp*
Not everyone does.
'Nuff said.

This version works with SPC.
( Many thanks for that, by the way. ^^ )
Wait, what? all my mods are updated ...
First one sounds like an interesting idea, I could use the world seed (assuming craftbukkit updates it properly when worlds change).
oh damn me I keep forgetting to update it ... *does now*

Stupidity on the rise with a 40% chance of shitstorms.
Yeah, why is that?
