So my next mod is alloys. Will be adding new ores, items and hopefully new features.
Socketed/Slotted armour can be fitted with gems to make the armour fire resistant, heal you etc.
Socketed/Slotted tools can be fitted with gems to make tools mine faster or last longer.
Rings can have special effects.
I have an idea for better smelting.
New block: Magma furnace.
Can smelt forever, but it needs to be surrounded by lava source blocks.
Like so (this is just a rough idea):
(starting from bottom level)
---
---
Either that or having at least 4 magma below it...something like that.
The point is not using a magma bucket in the furnace, and instead using outside source blocks to power the furnace.
edit:
I'm generally not a fan of mods that add new blocks in (mostly due to the new blocks clashing with my texture pack), but it sounds like the socketing alloy idea could work really well.

I chose to rename better smelting to Alloys, more like changed the focus of the mod. I like the idea of using external lava as a source of power but not for unlimited smelting. Better ores gives you more coal so you should have enough that way.
After a major rewrite of Better Ores and coding Alloys I have come to a crossroad.
Either:
Modify the Furnace so that smelting items with subtypes is possible. Both mods will use less IDs for blocks and items and will not add more IDs when adding new ores with nuggets for the ores. WILL BE MODLOADER COMPATIBLE
Leave Furnace alone and use more IDs. Adding more ores and nuggets will increase IDs which both mods add.
Add smelting of subtypes to a new Furnace. Cannot smelt nuggets in a normal furnace. (BetterSmelting mod returns)
I love your BetterOres. Easily one of the best mods I use, and I use Millinaire... Diamonds for you sir!
Oh one more thing! BetterOre update for 1.6.6. would be greatly appreciated!
DIAMONDS!!!!
I was waiting for Lahwran to update GUI API to 1.6.6. As he has done so I can now continue updating. I have rewrote most of BetterOres for my new mod Alloys, although not much is noticeable from users as it was done for the API which I am working on. I have yet to the socketed armour/items but everything else is pretty much done. I should have a release later today.

Hurray!!! :biggrin.gif: This is on my list of mods I can't update without. I've been playing Mass Effect waiting for my necessary mods to update to 1.6.6. You rock.

There were some bugs with the update of GUI API so this has delayed release. I should have BetterOres out within the week and Alloys will follow soon.

Gah, why did you make the ores require a different furnace??? That makes this unusable for me now. :sad.gif:
How does a different furnace make the mod unusable? If I modified the original furnace code then that would break compatibility of other mods. The vanilla furnace cannot smelt items that are damaged or use metadata. The new nugget system uses metadata which results in less item IDs being used.

Didn't it only add two item id's before? I can't imagine that being a problem. I guess having to have twice as many furnaces isn't really that much of a problem. I'll just need to redesign my basement to make room. I use a full wall of furnaces to get large projects done more quickly.

Yes it did use two IDs before, one for iron nuggets and one for gold nuggets. If I didn't make the change then Alloys would require an extra 4 IDs for nuggets and another 4 for ingots. For every ore/nugget/ingot would need another ID.
Using the new method which requires the special furnace allows me or any other modder to use just 3 IDs for potentially unlimited amount of ores/nuggets/ingots without adding more IDs.
How are your mods not that popular? better ores is amazing. And does the world already spawn the silver and other new blocks even though they dont have a use yet?

I am not sure why they aren't popular. Spread the news about them please?
New chunks will generate the new ores, So if you start a new world it will have the new ores at the start. Older saves will have the ores but only if chunks are generated after installing the mod.
I know this is one of those questions that i probably shouldn't ask, but i'm gonna anyways
when i downloaded the new update for 1.6.6, idk what i'm supposed to add if i just want what was in the old better ores (iron gold nuggets, more drops from the ore blocks) or do i have to add the new ores aswell?

Possibly because your title isn't named properly. When sorting the released mods list by title this mod comes in around page 58 when it should show up around page 30 with the majority of the 1.6.6 mods. Change it to [1.6.6]DE3000 ect. No v and no space after the ].
Is it possible to just use better ores by not installing the class files for alloys and light crystals? If so what files should I install. (There are WAY to many mods that add new tools, and honestly you only need one tool set after diamond, two if you want to also have an unbreakable set. And I really hate adding in new ores for any reason.)

Some people prefer to be able to create large projects without cheating, or mining out a few square miles. This is a nice balance. Enough ore to do what you need, without inventory hacking. The alloys are great for people that like having more tool sets, and building materials, and the light crystal adds in a much better looking option than glowstone.

Since we haven't gotten an answer, does anyone know of a mod that lets you increase the ore drops without adding extra ore types or other things?

Please post any feedback and spread the news about the API to any modders who add new ores or items which differ only by metadata.

If you don't want to use it, then don't download.
