I am glad that I am not the only one who is having problems with this. No matter how simple installing it is(open jar with 7-zip drag'n'drop the files in and delete meta-inf) it still isn't working. I am using vista and tried both Google Chrome and internet explorer, neither worked... This just makes me wish Notch was less lazy and actually put in mod support it would make everyone's life so much better. I hope someone figures out what we are all doing wrong.
Edit:Just for some further clarification, this is my only mod I will ever have in use until I get it working.
Edit2:The java error seems to emphasize a lot on security and permission being denied.

Hm, I have a little problem. I have a Mac with Snow leopard OSx.
And I when I try to Un-zip it with Archive Utility it comes up with another .zip file called ModLoader.zip.cpgz , THEN I try un-zipping that, Comes out with the same EXACT thing! It doesn't become a folder where I can extract the files for some reason. Please help?

When you start your game on the login screen goto options and check "Force Update" and hit ok then it will update back to 1.8.1
@Ubuntu users (possibly other Linux distros as well)
When copying the ModLoader.class, File Roller (A.K.A. Archive Manager) creates the directory structure /java/lang/ within the minecraft.jar and puts the ModLoader.class there. You can cut and paste the ModLoader.class back into the root directory of your minecraft.jar.
Not sure why it's doing that in this release, but not in previous releases.
For the image, I deleted all files from the minecraft.jar copy before adding Modloader to make it easy to see what I was talking about.
I hate quoting myself, but sometimes it just has to be done. I wandered past several posts for this specific problem in the last couple pages.
I'm not sure if this has been answered already but here it goes, Will any of your mods, particularly recipe book or death chest, work in a server.jar file? or are they strictly for solo/single player?
first page a few mods down hope your mods work cause mine wont because modloader keeps crashing minecraft for me.
thanks but what is it called? and yeah mine work...... altho i have spc and tmi and herobrine mod(GREAT MOD) and mod loader and macro mod...... mc doesnt crash too much for me.... altho i am a big online player..... thats where most of my crashes come from lol
Found an issue with the armor stand mod. If you place a stand floating one block from the floor, and then another stand on top, the game will crash into a "saving chunks" screen and upon loading up again, TONS of stands will spawn on the floor.

I have the exact same problem. I have completely wiped minecraft from my computer, downloaded it again, and tried uploading the modloader. That black screen is really getting annoying. My platform is a mac 10.5.8 and I didn't have problems with modloader till minecraft 1.8 .
