That is what i am getting, did you delete meta-inf? if not, try that, i have deleted mine, but i am still getting a black screen ( I ended up, just going back to my normal minecraft, as i would rather play the normal MC,at least until replies with something to help :/)

Just bumping the issue of black screen, when you properly add them to the minecraft.jar, AND delete the meta-inf file, i have found yet another user who has had this issue, and i can not use any mod that require either this mod loaoder, or 303's modloader.
Please help, like i said, most of the mod's require the modloaders, which i can not use :/
That usually (at least 90%) happens when Minecraft is running while you try to edit the .jar. Close it and try again. If Minecraft isn't running, then restart your computer and try again.
To those who are getting the 'black screen error' - try deleting ONLY the MOJANG_C files. DO NOT REMOVE THE META-INF FOLDER. Worked for me (though it took 4 days of testing and a stray suggestion in another topic for me to figure out).
Also, if the above doesn't work try Minecrafter (search the forums) - run it without deleting anything. I'm currently using this option since I have too many mods (19 to be exact) to bother with the copy/paste method.
ps. On a side note - some of the autopatchers delete the META-INF folder by deafault (for example MrM'm SimpleMap) so check before installing. Or copy the folder and add it back manually after autopatching.

There shouldn't be any mods that rely on anything inside the META-INF folder. I'm running 23 mods right now with no problem, and I actually made my .jar backup with the META-INF folder already deleted so that I don't have to do it again every time I backup. I don't know why your engine would require it... O_o

If it isn't the META-INF folder then I'm at a loss as to what changed. I tried running both risugami's and 303's modloaders (1.2.2 ver) on clean, freshly downloaded .jar's (deleted META) and got the blackscreen. And now everything runs smoothly.

I cannot even put the files of the mod loader into my minecraft.jar file, i have done this all before and it has worked fine, but accidently deleted minecraft.jar, so I redownloaded minecraft, and when I went to put modloader back in I got this error message, when all I had running was the winrar file for minecraft.jar, and the winrar file withe the modloader classes in it.
! Cannot rename __rzi_20.565 to C:\Users\jack\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin\minecraft.jar
! Cannot create C:\Users\jack\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin\minecraft.jar
! The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
ok maybe I'm blind but I can't seem to find META-INF folder in my minecraft.jar file.
I can find that folder in the other jar files in the bin folder but not in the minecraft.jar. Tried deleting them and I still get a black screen after the Mojang screen that just sits there and locks up. is the meta folder hidden or something? cause 7zip isn't seeing it nor am I.

edit: gonna try what Ash said.
If you used a patcher to install a mod already, it probably got deleted for you. In any instance, if you can't find it, then it's probably not there, and you don't have to worry about it anymore. :tongue.gif:
ok what Ash said kinda worked. my Meta was being deleted but not by the mod loader, but by Xau's hd fix. I tried deleting my mojang_c files out of meta with only the breathing helmet mod and it worked. then I patched my texture in and it broke it. is there no way to combined them?

All his mods do work with 303's ModLoader.
Thanks i just wanted to be sure =p

I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.8, but maybe it has to do with java? I saw talk of some certain java things that let Minecraft run and everything.

Are you running Minecraft on a Mac or a Pc?

You edited the wrong file, you're suppose to edit the one in "%appdata%\.minecraft\bin"
