ok, i got the modloader V5 and i followed the instructions step by step and i got a black screen upon pressing enter game. i did some research and all i found was ppl saying that i had done something wrong. i extracted the files, made sure all the class files got into the .minecraft/minecraft.jar folder and deleted that one file that needed to be deleted. i still get the black screen. i am running windows 7 x64. i would really like to get this running.

Go into your .minecraft folder and in there will be modloader.txt.
Open that, copy the text and paste on here (use the [code] tags).
We can then see what happened and help you out...

And by looking at this, i realise that this modloader actually loads mods from the mods folder, and i don't have to add them inside minecraft.jar
And my multiverse is bugging my minecraft.

thanks to thegofa for pointing out the debug txt in ModLoader.txt
i didn't know about that
Ok, I need help. I installed the ModLoader just like you said, as well as dozens of youtube videos, I installed the mods the way it told me to, either being put into the .jar folder or just the mod folder, and made sure everything was done 100% accurate with no differences, yet it still wont work. I even tried it where I was told to delete my worlds, install everything, create a new world, then put my old worlds back in, yet still nothing. All of them say windows 7 still works with it so I don't know why mine wont allow me to mod it. Could someone help me with this, or just upload the .jar folder with the mod already in it? Thank you.
How does ModLoader assign values to terrain.png and items.png?
I know that ModLoader doesn't directly modify either of these files, but it definitely indirectly does, since I've installed several ModLoader mods along with one non-ModLoader mod (which uses an edited version of terrain.png), and it causes several item and texture crossovers, making some textures and items appear as those from the other mod, but still retaining functionality (so it's definitely not an ID thing).
My question is simply how does ModLoader assign these textures? And is there any way it can be made to NOT replace the textures I'm already using?
Rugsami !
I have problem , When I will instal more sacables , I cant eat anything !!!!!!!!
HELP ME !!!!!!
you can't eat food when it's stacked up. you have to take one porkchop or whatever out of the stack, then eat it (this is the same with buckets, except without the eating part)

I always delete the meta inf file and it always comes up with a black screen even if i run no mods and it keeps happening and if anybody can help please tell me.
I've done more work trying to fix this bizarre problem I've been having with sprites in the terrain.png being overridden with sprites from other mods I have. I found out that as more terrain-sprite adding mods are added, the sprites are basically "pushed" into the terrain.png and override certain textures. So far the birch sapling, the two new rails, and the redstone wire have all been affected by this, being replaced with the chocolate block texture from Nandonalt's chocolate mod, or a glass texture from BetterGlass, or the pink torch from ColorfulRedstone (all three of these textures overrode the birch sapling), or one of the shelves from the writable book mod (in the case of the redstone wire and detector rails), and the vine from Wildgrass (in the case of the power rails). This is either the weirdest result of a mod conflict I've yet seen, or Modloader itself is at fault, as a result of having the terrain sprite indices depleted to a certain number. If the latter is indeed the case, I hope the bug can be isolated and fixed because I find this to be extremely frustrating. I really can't live with redstone wire that looks like a bookshelf.
Now now... Seriously.. Why people come crying here why they run out of indices sprites. Why can't you just search, use google. I ran out of sprites simply by installing guns, planes and industrial craft. What happened, I googled. The result of 30 min looking around I found out that there is a great mod for people with this problem. Its called "Minecraft Extended". Increases your limit of sprites and id blocks. Block IDs are increased up to 1024 and gives unlimited indices sprites.
The overwriting problem might be Modloaders problem, although so far, passing sprites limit by far none of my default sprites have been overwritten. The solution is simply to install fresh client.
mod loader crashes my game on mac. I used the minecraft jar tool. I installed the modloader correctly but it doesn't work at all. Always get black screens.
I tried to copy the error report everytime it crashed but it disappeared to soon.
Its called "Minecraft Extended". Increases your limit of sprites and id blocks.
...And isn't compatible with any mods that edit the Item.class or Block.class, which is usually the case with mods that edit terrain.png (and is the case with the one I'm using). This is more for when people want to use multiple mods with sprite exceptions.

Simply set the program to open the config files to be a text editor, like notepad. Or if that's too much work for you, try installing a fresh jar.
Try deleting the meta-inf of the jar. That usually is the problem. If not, show us the modloader log.
