Hi guys, this will be a long one so unless you want to get invested, this might not be for you! I started a map in 2014, originally survival with some family and friends. Eventually they dropped off but I kept building and expanding and setting out for new projects. Earlier this year the map looked like the Overviewer rendering below. Left from right, I'd built: my high school, two fast-ferries, a multi-level shopping mall, an early 2000s office / apartment block, a 1600s cathedral, an original made up design castle and a 1960s shopping centre / town centre complex. This was enclosed in a circular road / wall and outside of it is mostly untouched land reserved for survival. All of those builds are based on real life, built at a 'playable scale' (1 block = 1 metre usually) no huge empty, un-renderable monstrosities. In between was what I tried to create as a community of residential housing and other little easter eggs and amenities. Every building is complete with an either realistic layout / interior, playable in game. Every shop sells an item / item group useful in game.
The problems began in August this year, I lost the map after clearing out backups and moving a lot of data on the same weekend and for months have scrambled to get it back, what I could recover was a horrible chunks-missing / rotated and overgrown in jungle biome... a true nightmare. I'd lost my 8 year old map. All I had was a 2017 version - drastically underdeveloped and with early attempts at the shopping malls etc. And a 2021 version from a site I tried to get someone to convert to Bedrock but couldn't. I was able to recover this 2021 version, losing all my 2022 progress: the office block, new residential areas, fitting out of the malls with shops and stock rooms etc to extreme detail and attention......
It's taken me a while, but now I am working on a new plan / massive overhaul for my 'built up area'. Some large builds will of course be preserved and built around. It'll take me a while to get the motivation back to re-do all those time consuming insides of the shopping malls etc. I plan to work according to the UnMiNeD map screenshot below. Widening the central river and building new street layouts.
I'd love to hear your ideas and if you are interested, I'll post updates as I go along.
I am tempted to someday commercialise this map, with an economy world where joiners play in survival with ranks / factions maybe, but come to this built up (protected!) area to trade / buy things and maybe do events or warp to mini games. It's a big idea and I'm a LONG way off. This world / seed is also an August 2014 version, perhaps players won't be interested in that anymore..
for now it is about bringing the built up area into the modern world, less little village houses, more detailed themed slightly bigger streets with variety and character that people would love to explore and play in.
Some solid ideas so far:
New train station / subway system
Central square in city with clear path to survival zones for commercialising / server use in future
