I had been working on this idea for a month or so, then 1.12 came out and introduced functions! Which is awesome!
I will be re-doing what I have so far so that I can use functions, and finishing the rest!
The general idea is to add a new game mode to minecraft. It's survival like but adds a component that I think will increase the difficulty and playability.
Description
When you first spawn you are in adventure mode, you are in adventure mode as long as you do not have a base established. Using a book (Mysterious Tome) you set a location as your base. This puts you in Survival mode, and you can play as normal! However, watch out! As the zombie horde is on the lookout for your base. After a random number of Minecraft days your base gets "discovered" and you have about 5 minutes to grab as much as you can carry and flee your base before the Zombie horde arrives!
Once the zombies take over your base, you are put back into adventure mode and the journey to find a new base location begins. Your old base remains, infested with the zombie horde... forever!
Benefits!
Obviously, the end goal is to get some shulker boxes to make transporting all your stuff easier, but this will make Lama's, Donkey's and Mule's much more valuable in the early game!
This prevents super bases, where people get settled too the point that the game is no longer a challenge, with walls of supplies and resources.
Exploration! You will get to see more of the beautifully generated Minecraft world since you will be moving bases about every 3 - 5 hours in game.
Creativity. Being less picky about your base means getting more creative in how you set it up and prevent ordinary mobs from attacking you.
Downsides
Obviously, this "Game Mode" will not be for builders since you will not be spending long enough in any one location to do any serious building.
Bases might be ugly, depending on the player, rushing to establish a base so you can get the most use out of it might cause some players to make nothing but dirt huts.
New players might have a hard time getting established, setting up farms and resource gathering needs to be much more efficient when you are on a time limit.
Some ideas to fix the downsides.
Perhaps defeating the ender dragon will "Cloak your base in shadows" making it harder for the zombie horde to find it (gives you more time at your base) allowing for more elaborate builds, but not permanent, so there is still the inevitability of having to start over again.
Maybe the first base gets a buffer and is harder to discover (similar to being cloaked in shadows above) giving new players time to understand the game before being thrust from base to base. (This may allow more experienced players to take advantage of this and break the game mode though)
Please leave any ideas below! I want to know what you all think!
Also I will be doing a "Making of" series on my youtube channel if you are into that kind of thing:
If a player is expecting to run from their base and you give them enough time, they won't ever need to fight. I'd say that the time of warning they receive should decrease as they mark more bases. However, if this time drops too low, it might be too hard to escape with anything, so maybe have a minimum time and, when that cap is reached, proceed to add armor, weapons, or extra health to the invaders.
I wish you luck; this looks awesome!

That's a good idea! Increased difficulty over time should help balance out for the power players, and goes along well with the randomness of how long each base lasts.
Thanks for the support! I hope it turns out as good as it is in my head XD

I now have the basic framework done, and the base borders setup. Now comes the fun part!
What are some good names/setups for the mobs that overrun the base?
What armor/weapons should they have, or should it get harder over time?
Should you have to fight your way out of your base!
Soooo many ideas!
