The Silo is an abandoned missile silo built in 1960 so that if Russia were ever to send a nuclear threat. Eisenhower had it built in a shady transaction that even today is kept hush hush. It was built in Black Mesa in Colorado and spans to New Mexico.
About the Map Recognise the picture above? It's quite likely; the map was based on the Game of the Year 1998 — Half-Life by Valve Software. The Silo takes huge inspiration from the game, but it isn't a port; there is already an excellent map porting the game. Instead, it is somewhat of a re-imagining of Black Mesa.
The map is 17% done.
To Do:
-Stock the rooms
-Finish the silo
-Build offices
-Make third floor
-Build Hazard Course
-Expand floors
-Make CustomNPCs version
-Destroyed version, too
-Add laboratories
-Add Anti-Mass Spectrometer
Walkthrough
When you start The Silo, which in the world selection is named Neue Welt, you are started outside the map. Find the Silo, and near it should be a small brown building sandwiched between gray buildings. Enter the outermost gray building and step on one of the two pressure plates. It will take you inside the brown building, which is a security checkpoint. (This was based on the Half-Life Source test map hl1devtest). Do it again and you will enter The Silo. There are two ways to enter the main hall from here. The first is through the computer room behind the desk, which is also connected to a smaller, currently empty room. The other way is by the hall to the right, as in Half-Life.
In this hallway, there are many rooms, only one of which is furnished currently. In the hallway branching from this one, there are more rooms, restrooms, and hazard suits. If you ignore this room, there is another branch which has quite a few rooms. These are also unfurnished save for two, a cafeteria and yet another branch which leads to a recreational room and a small set of dormitory rooms.
Past this branch, there is an elevator which currently works to get to the first or second floors. The first floor is the one you are already on, but the second floor is the administrative offices. These were built in the 1960s after the silo. There are many, many offices on the right. On the left of the lobby is a hallway leading to a hub of sorts for several labs, or at least that's the idea. This area was based on Office Complex.
If you enter the Silo, accomplished by pressing the button next to the red blast door on the first floor, you will be sent to the first level, where missiles would be prepared in the sixties. On the third floor, you can enter a Lambda Complex inspired hall set. For now, these are the least completed area of The Silo.
Download
Default version (should work, if it doesn't tell me so I can fix it.)
Resource Pack, based on the Nostalgiacraft pack. (Hey, it only made sense for an alpha inspired map!)
I want you to tell me which looks better. If I go with the texture pack, I will make it specifically for it, and it won't make sense without. If I don't, it will be quicker and easier to get, but it will lose some of the details that come with a texture pack.
My improvements to the Gorman calendar.
Looks really good!
Keep up the good work!
Here's to you.
(destroyed version preview.)
The download will be updated tomorrow.
