We are still on the Viaduct Entrance. We might not finish it before building the Stone Bridge (the one that links the Medius Tower to one corner tower of the Viaduct Entrance) and the Viaduct. It was primordial we seat the Viaduct Entrance to be able to build those bridges. Because both starts from an existing element: the Medius Tower for the Stone Bridge and the way around the Entrance Courtyard for the Viaduct. And seen that is done, we can build those bridges. But no more writes, there are the screenshots!
We are building the other part with a simple symmetry, I remind you the only thing different will be the dormers on the corner towers roofs.
A little bit of hindsight will not harm us. I remind you that the roofs of these towers are made of two slopes: we build the first part, we pasted it on the second tower and placed the first “right” dormer on the left tower. I forgot to mention it, we naturally tried to get as close as we can than the castle windows pattern to build our own windows. It is not inconceivable that changes will be completed in the future, I do not mention it anymore for now.
We work on this project whatever the weather. Each dormers placed, we began the second part of the roof (2nd slope).
There is the result! We are quiet satisfied of it because the caesura is well visible , almost just above the top of the dormers, and if you look to the model, you will see that it is at this point that the caesura is.
Then, we meet the second roof issue.
“Oh, but that is nothing! We can simply use WorldEdit to rotate the first roof of 45°!”. And that is what we done. After had a big laugh thinking hoping this was going to work, we notice that the new dormers was, in fact, quiet good. Actually, it was the most important part, because we simply had to paste the first roof, without dormer, and place the rotated dormers on it.
On the other side, we also began the roof of the turrets behind. That wrote, this roof needs to be overhauled. It is nice to see and surely does not match with the model’s pattern.

And that is what it does with copying the Medius Tower (on the left on the picture) next to that Entrance. As you can see, we did well doing that because the diagonal line that the Viaduct will follow had to be changed. And that view is quiet impressive.
I am really sorry for not posting such a long time here, but I hope I can share you more things with a sustained rhythm in the next weeks.
The only thing I blame myself for is to not fuelling this post enough. I can mistake, but I think that is something very special with this project: sharing a large documentation and explain the link between it and what is happening IG.
We decided to stop the Viaduct Entrance building to build the next steps of the Great Tower, the Stone Bridge and, later, the Viaduct. I will show you some pictures to clear the vision. Even if I already showed you a lot of pictures on which the Great Tower is, I think some precisions remain necessary.
There are so much things to say about the Great Tower! We shall restrict ourselves to the directing lines this time. The body of the tower is divided in 3 parts:
The low part with 1 row of middle size windows and 3 rows of little windows.
The central part with variation of 3 to 6 rows of middle size windows.
The high part with 1 row of little windows. This one is larger than the two previous ones. You can see it is supported by corbels.
Now, let’s see the roof of this tower.
Picture of the London model used in the 6th movie. Once again, I will not spread a lot of words on it, but remember there will be a lot more information in the future. For now, I draw your attention on the division of this roof. The roof is divided in equal parts, each time composed by dormers half the time.
Picture of the castle of the 7th and 8th movies. You can see that the base of the roof is not the same. We choose to reproduce the first version. This tower brings to us a lot of problem about its proportions, and that is why I wrote that the result will not be as compelling as the rest of the castle. This base is quite complicated to reproduce.
This completes what was to write about the Great Tower, let’s talk about the Stone Bridge.
Seeing from this plan, we can note an important thing: this bridge does not have an inclination of 45° as many players seem too tough. We estimate it near the 30°. Far from bored us, it suits us (I am talking about the bridge marked by Bridge over, the other one is the Viaduct). I will explain more details next time.
There are two pictures already posted to explain you clearly one point about this bridge. Regarding the Medius Tower, no problem, a door is set in it, just below the turret. But, as you can note directly rambling your gaze across the bridge, this one is on the windows level in Viaduct Entrance corner tower. No surprises, and even if it should be one according the previous patterns, there is a door.
Note the design on the bridge. A great arch, two small ones through and through and, above, small decoration columns. The arches dive in the ravine to stop on two plinths, which begin just below the Viaduct Entrance tower side.
Two screenshots from the 6th game. The can be interesting. But, again, the developers did not things properly with the windows and the Viaduct Entrance corner tower. And they also did with the side façade too. Because, at the level of the windows we can see (2 included) should be a windowed bay. I put again the picture of the elevation to convince you:
As written in the previous documentation, we focused on the Great and the Stone Bridge.
We already wiped the highest par out some times ago. We made this whole part on new bases.
We let the thickness of the walls like this, it gives us the maximum of space we wish for the future. We moved the tower on the place and begun its roof.
We let one block between it and the wall to allow us to add a “high part” to the tower. If not, this tower would turn out to be less nice than our shabbiest hopes.
There is the finished roof. We opted for a simple ring increasing the effect of width.
Then, we thought it was stupid and we could set this width up the top of the wall, creating a real larger width. Do not pay attention to the moving parts of the castle, it is quite a mess with the changing to the final place.
There still a lot of work to do on this tower, but we progress on it like never until now.
Whatever, there is how we proceed for the building of the Stone Bridge and the reason we did it : as I show in the previous documentation, the slope of the incline of this bridge is not 45° but far more around 30°. So, we made a line matching the more we thought this incline, cut in equal parts. We made the model first right, and then pasted it, part by part, on the diagonal we settled.

Today, I will present you the documentation of the Viaduct.
Let’s go straight to the point. The Viaduct. 9 large arches supporting it (the 9th is hidden by a tree, in the right). Over its head, a level of smaller arches. There are each time one small arch above the great arch and, between them, another little arches. Properly, over the head of the pillars. The Viaduct is sinks well into the ravine, almost in a V form, nothing to fear from that.
Above the medium arches is a guardrail containing decoration pillars, each time above the little arches. We clearly see here that the little arches are set back from the great arches. And if you pay attention, you shall note that the pillars of the second level are horizontally drilled in arches, smaller than the medium ones.
Combined to the first picture, we can note that the first great arch – Entrance Courtyard side - is very near to the land, as the last great arch – Viaduct Entrance side – has well its pillar inside the land.
There are two picture (model of the London plan and 6th game screenshot) to convince you one last time that the Viaduct is diagonally placed. I am taking the opportunity of showing this last screenshot to make you observe that, in this game, we count 5 torches on through and through the Viaduct. One on each pillar in the beginning of the Viaduct – Entrance Courtyard side, the one of the screenshot -, and even if it is not very much visible, the 4 other ones on the guardrail of the Viaduct.
There is a 6th game screenshot to support my words.
Same thing for the 5th game. That written, there is a difference between both games in the circle area just before the Viaduct - Entrance Courtyard side. In the 5th game, there are two pedestals, one supporting a speaking gargoyle. For the ones who not played the game, it is said that there were two gargoyles until the moment a dragon fallowing a boy flying with its broom made the other gargoyle fall in the ravine.
Because it is funny to remember that seeing again those gargoyles, because it adds a decorative object and it is not the only place where there are speaking gargoyles in the 5th game, we decided to put them in our Minecraft version.
To come back to the torches, on the model, there are well 5 torches on through and through the way, but 3 on the handrails, whereas the pillars on the Viaduct extremities are adorned of torches.

Thank you! Honestly, we directly begun to compile documentation as well as our project begun. Because we know that every singular picture or information could be used later, we finally got more than 3000 pictures including : pictures of different models, screenshots of movies, photos of real places used for the movies, artworks from the community, screenshots from other maps and servers, screenshots of video games. And still yet, this collection growing up today. I am thinking to share the whole documentation when the project will be completely done.
It’s been a long time since I began to show you our progress. Today, I will try to get more regular in the posting, by showing you some Viaduct’s screenshots. This one will complete some progress on the castle. We do not like to make big estimates, as the whole terraforming is not complete yet, and because we build the inner spaces in the same time. So it is very difficult to estimate how much the project is done. But enough of blabla, and let’s get to those screenshots!
We started from the diagonal we draw from both corners of the Viaduct. First, we extended it to create the circulation space of the Viaduct.
After that, we began to make the arches. This one is to “diagonal” beside what we are looking for.
We also take care of the upper arches.
As you note on the previous screenshots, the terraforming in front of the castle is not done yet. So, we moved the Viaduct to finish it.
The goal was to put an upper arch up the down-level arch, above each pillar, with another one arch to complete the pattern.
And that’s what we got with the terraforming ended! You could note a lot of differences between those two screenshots about the different parts of the castle, that is because of the castle moving (which is 14 blocks under the previous location, to get more space for the towers) was not made in one move. This explains those differences. Be assured we set the whole castle on the new place to show you a better view!
The only wrong thing is the slope below the Viaduct does not satisfy ourselves, it should be more like a regular “V”, but we shall take care of that the next time.We hope you enjoy that. The castle takes more and more shape, it was time for it!
Next time, I will share you more information about the Great Tower windows!
Today I will simply present you one of the dark sides of the project: our test area. It is mainly a stock space where we put a lot of ideas. Even if the most of the tests are done on the castle, we sometimes need a neutral space to build.
This documentation part is composed like this: exposition of different views of the Great Tower showing well its windows, exposition of a summary and then its explanation.
That is what ends the picture of the model itself. Every picture are from the London model, except the 4th (Page to Screen, 4th movie model) and the 5th (picture of the 6th movie).
Then comes the summary. Yes, it is ugly. But at least, it is clear. Now let’s have a look at it. It is made of two parts:
A Great Tower roof modelling and the 16 parts of it
A “sequence” of the outer Great Tower façade
Three levels, you can check on the previous pictures, those one are well on the Great Tower. The two first ones are detached by a stone ring, the third one is supported by corbels, making the split between that and the 2nd level.
Two types of windows. Normal and thin ones. The thin ones are on the first as well as the third level. They are only thin windows on the third level. As for the normal windows, they are set on the first and second level. They are only normal windows on the second level.
The link between both parts of this schema is the numeration. And that is the most difficult part to get: the number of windows columns of the Great Tower. Thanks to the different pictures previously shown, we were able to state that the roof is divided in 16 equal parts. There is an alternation of the dormers windows on each part on two, on the roof. We put some light on the Director’s turrets (which was a good marker!). That made, we just needed to know what column was under was part of the roof. Obviously, on the model, the columns are not perfectly above each part of the roof (and less precisely concerning the 3rd level windows), but you have to remind that our reproduction is made in a cubic game.
You may have notice that, but this research was long and complex. It is the product of more than one IG session. But we reach our goal. We are quite glad that, beside the castle itself, the documentation – as well as the castle understanding of everyone – is more and more complete and precise. Obviously, we own a lot to everyone have posted pictures of the London model until now.
As I mentioned it in the documentation part, the research of the place of each window was long. Very long.
This research done, check and confirmed, the rest of the work was easy to do.
We drilled the Tower to insert the windows.

We enjoy this opportunity to begin the terraforming. It is obviously not the final one.
As announced previously, we modified the terraforming under the Viaduct so its shape would be closer to a “V”.
There is a comparative.
That was short, but I can assure you it takes us a lot of time. Actually, we work a lot on the inside of the castle. But you shall discover this part only at the end of the project! We decided to hold some unknown things for you.
