Excellent work! 3 of us have been working on a Hogwarts build as well, and the pics you have posted from your research have been very helpful. We started at the other end (in survival mode) at the greenhouses and bell towers. We are about to cross the chasm. The East Wing is complete, as well as the astronomy tower and courtyard, but I'm having trouble finding pics illustrating the small building that is on the opposite side of the astronomy tower from the east wing. The pics from the scale model never seem to include that area (there seems to be a large hill between people taking photos of the model and that spot). Have you found any? It is the part across the chasm from the area you have recently featured on this page.
I saw your post, you made a respectful work in this short time period. We are glad to know our documentation is helpful for other players. About the build you are talking about : we concluded the same thing than you. There is a hill (on which sit the Owlery) on the model. We don't have any picture from this point of view.
This docoumentation part will be entirely dedicated to the Medius Tower. It will be cutted in 3 parts, each part matching with a version of this tower. Let’s begin with the first version, included the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th movies.
This first version is quiet stocky, quiet large. We think its roof gaves it this stocky effect. You will note that the corbels – the supports hanging over – are on the same level that the keystone of the arch above the leading path the Paved Courtyard. I will come again on this point later.

I posted this one during the analysis of the Paved Courtyard, nonetheless, 2 points are draw our attention about this tower :
- On the first hand, we can guess an approximate diameter of this tower. The edge of the roof meets the edge of the inside walls of the Quad.
- On the other hand, a turret seat on the left corner of the tower. This turret is moving on the next version.
Picture of the London model, it forms the second part of this documentation. With this one begins the second part of this documentation. Pay attention to the fact that, this once, the wall has corbels too and, oh, magic, they are on the same level that the ones of the Tower. Let's talk about the tower !
It's clearly thiner and highter than the precedent. As I said, the turret is changing side. A new element appears : the spire, sit almost on the corner of the roofs. It's pretty singular to see that at this place. Mostly, we can see it on high points of buildings.
Oh, yes, the first turret is always there. I mean, in the same place. I mean, there is two turrets. Why making a choice, after all ?
Picture of the 8th movie. Third and last part of this documentation. The differences are here quiet big. The tower itself is fully built-up. In contrast, its roof is smaller.
Now, the Medius Tower is linked by two towers. The spire previously mentioned is not deleted, just moved. Look at the left, always on the top of the roof.
The spire is here, the bridge connecting the Medius Tower and the other one, on the other side of the roof is curved.
There is a picture from the graphist I had already expose some picture from. Always interesting to have on hand.
So, why this picture is here ? Well, look at the Astronomy Tower. The patterns, it is made of the same great arches around its corner. About coherence, we find it's pretty sad to use again this arches. Above all, no scene is shooted in this tower.
There is, I think I said everything. A lot of things for just one tower but it had to be like this. Next time, I will post the IG screenshot.
Hello ladies and gentleman, I will show you the screenshots of our recent work. They are about the outside wall of the Quad (North Wing side) and the beginning of the Medius Tower.
Damned personne I am, I didn't present you yet our documentation of this part. It will come, don't worry about it. I will not spread myself on details, I post the screenshots, the explanations will follow.
WorldEdit, our great friend. A quarter of roof and our friend will do the rest.
We just see the end of this wall ! It's pleasant. Again, WorldEdit help us a lot.
We tried to so something different for this panes. We tried to put the tartan of the stained-glass in this panes.

It's the base of the Medius Tower. We choose to reproduce the tower of the 6th movie. We think it's more pretty than the one of the first movies, and we don't like very much the changes of the one of the 7th and 8th movies.
As I said previously said, the corbels are on the same level than the ones on the wall. We enjoy the opportunity to put them on the wall.
There is the result. After months of work, we just start to see something bigger and bigger, which begins to looks like something real. We realy enjoy that, and we hope you to.
This little message has for purpose to let you know some rectifications we recently made.
Well, if you pay attention to some pics of the previous documentation, you will see that, in the height window in the second colum, starting from the right, the half of the pillar is missing.
However, I don't know if there already had a picture good enough to see that, in this place, the window which should be here is not here because of the hill area. I will check this and correct if necessery in the nex part of the documentation.
The whole of the secret passage of the Boathouse is build. Wouh ouh. We found a way to make pretty passages, I will not say anything more but, trust me, it's good !
Finally, we present you the documentation part of the part wich supports the Suspension Bridge.
I expose here two pictures of the first and second movies to show you this part was not the same in this movies. It was more shifted to the other corner of the Quad (while the other version is next to the Medius Tower). There also were a tower above it.
We continue with two screenshot of the 5th game. Here, we clearely si a column of windows, on the left of the part which supports the Suspension Bridge. We thought have been mistaken about the place of this part after noting this column of windows. Then, we got a serious problem because, as you will see on the next pictures, it was impossible to us to move the part supporting the Suspension Bridge. As I previously wrote, the Medius Tower we choose to reproduce is the one of the 6th film, and it is different from the one of the 5th (which is, basicly, the same than the one of the 4 first movies). That was what we thought. As the 6th game will remind it us later, we were wrong.

As you can note, the space if very narrow. Too much in comparaison to the games screenshots. And then, we understood what we were wrong.
If you pay attention to this outside wall of the Quad, you will see that, until the Stone Bridge, The Medius Tower is right. That would mean that the Medius Tower is more shifted towards the Great Tower, so much that its corner mould the outside wall. Impossible, according to us.
We look for a picture in our documentation to be sure of that, and that is what we found. It is a scan of a plan of the castle in the 6th movie, included in the book Page to Screen. On this picture, we clearely see that the walls of the tower are shifted against the ones of the Quad.
Another picture helping us. 6th game, and we still see that the Medius Tower is not included in the outer wall. So, what are we supposed to think about that ? Well, we think the developpers had one more time make some **** work. We were not going to include this column of windows, anywe. And that, for two reasons.
Firstly, every windows in this wall are in determineted by skylights columns (more explanation in previous documentation part). And we are sure to placed exactly the part supporting the Suspension Bridge because we carefully count every column of windows on its left.
Secondly, this windows are not the same than the others, which bothers us.
Conclusion : there was nothing to be affraid of.
This picture is certainly the best we have of this part, from the movies pictures. In this case, from the 5th. I showned it many times before, and each time I speak about another things. You have to know that this view is impossible to photograph in the London model because of the Owlery hill. Naturraly, this picture coupled with the games screenshots helped us a lot to build this part.
Today, I present you some screenshots of the Great Tower, the Divination and Gryffindor Towers and pics of the terraforming. Let’s see it !
After months watching this old dirty cylinder, we carried a little bit of the Great Tower. That is just tempory work because, on the first hand, the castle is not at his definitive height (I will write later about this point). Which affects our view of the final tower. On the other hand, we wanted to try with a first pattern of corbels. Nothing realy special, we were more focused on the accuray about the shape, the tall, etc.
We realized we put the castle to high. So, we decided to move it to a new area in a large terraformed space. Because it was also a terrible idea to begin to build to castle BEFORE making the terraforming.
About terraforming : there is some screenshots. It obviously just a first milling, the details as such as the grass, the gravel, the flowers, etc. will fillow. We do not have some serious picture of the documentation to show you because the ground changes in almost every movie. So, we try to be the much accurate we can to certain parts.

Furthermore, we put the windows on the Tower making the corners of the Quad. This on is supposed to be the Divination Tower. I previously wrote we certainly put it when we will do the inside, but we found some very interesting pictures in our documentation. Enough to stop waiting the beginning of building the inside.
First of all, I would like to announce you I am getting back to work and this project, alone. A choice that have been made by both of us in mutual agreement. Notwithstanding, I did not inform you about our last builds.
So, I have a lot of things to show you, let’s start !
There is the Medius Tower, if you need more information about it, scroll over the previous messages.
We choose to build it in the new placement to have a view of what it will be at the end of the project. Reminder : the second placement is lower than the first.
As you can see in the documentation, the roof of the Medius Tower is made of the slopes. We build accordingly.
There it is what we got. We are pretty proud of the result of the imitation of the both slopes.
We begin with the turret on the edge of the Tower. It is rather tight but high, so we choose circumference.
And its support.

I wrote about it in the documentation, we do not forget to build the spire of this roof.
As you can see, we destroyed the top-part of the Great Tower. We build it again when the whole build will be moved to the new placement.
The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
It looks cool. I suggest you to make some textures for this map. I have also tried to build Hogwarts in Minecraft.... that was, hmm... 4 years ago? 5? I cant even remember. Honestly, not only tried, but built it. It wasn't very good though. 4 yrs ago my building skills were, ehm, lets say a bit worse than now. Sadly I think, nobody is ever going to make a better hogwarts than the Floo Network. I suppose you have seen their work?
Well, I think I can help you in some way. Not building. I now something about server plugins etc. I'm not writing them, but.. there is a plugin, which was supposed to make guns on servers, I can honestly say that I'm using it since 2013. Or 2012? no.. 13 i think.. And I have learned this plugin so much. Now, I can honestly say that I can create almost everything using this plugin. Want a gun, or a melee weapon? No problem. Want a Fire Extinguisher? A flare? Sure. A medical kit? CS:GO Bomb? Want even.... vehicles? Everything's possible. I even made a private server with a Hogwarts map by Floo Network, and wrote... some spells, yeah. Just for fun. But I think, they can be useful for you. If you're going to open up a server with your map. I can make every spell in Harry Potter. Well, i may have some problems with Protego. I can make spells which send you upwards (Ascendio), projectile spells, like Expelliarmus..... Usually I use fireworks for the spell's trail. If you want something like that for your server: Contact me - [email protected]
We thought a long time if we will use a resource pack or not. We decided not to use one. We want that every player can play on the map with no mod or extra resource pack, just with the vanilla game.
I am highly interested by what you have done ! If sharing some screenshots or the map does not disturb you, of course.
We are not absolute as your are about who made the best version of Hogwarts. Not to put ourselves in the first place, but we think that if someone made an incredible version in the past, someone could do better in the future, with the future adds in the game. The Floo Network version is very interesting, we do appreciate it. The only blame we could make about their version is that they take some liberties about the models we cannot even think about it, according to our accurate will.
We already one version of the map, so shall we in the future. If we finish the map, we will release it as a map. Whatever the other players will make with it, we will just ask to be credited. So, your offer is very generous, but building a server is not our objective.
A little clarification to begin: the Quad is almost done (outside). We have to finish the top of the Great Tower; put the windows on it; put some windows on the wall between the Great Tower and the Medius Tower and, without mistake, we’ll finish this part.
First of all: we are able to begin the whole inside of the Quad. Secondly, we now may undertake the East Wing.
One small note. What we call – right or wrongly, we discussed a lot about it and what we learned is that we need a terminology, whatever it is – East Wing of the Castle:
Next, a picture of the model so you have the both view of the build and the plan.
The East Wing is composed of: the “cathedral”, the Viaduct Entrance (down the cathedral on the plan) and the Greenhouses. On the plan, we can easily distinguish the “entrance of the cathedral” in the top of it, flank of the Bell Towers.
To get a better understanding of the break-up “cathedral”/Viaduct Entrance, I encourage you to watch pictures of the Durnham cathedral, the model of the art designers.
So, divide to conquer, we shall begin by building the Viaduct Entrance. Like many other parts of the castle, it evolves all along the movies.
There is a picture of the model from the first movie. I tell you right now, a few things change but it is importance to know them.
And there is a picture of the London model. The roofs of the corner towers of the Entrance are higher. Notwithstanding, as well as the first version, this roofs are made of 2 slopes.
The roof of the turrets in the back-corners changes too. It also gets higher.
About the triangle in the top of the Entrance: it is not obvious to infirm or confirm if there is a roof behind this triangle, at least according to the previous images.
Fortunately, there is a picture of the second movie which confirms it. At least, on this version of this Viaduct Entrance, there is a piece of roof connecting the main part of the roof and the triangle.
And there is a picture of the fourth movie. We can see that it is still the same version employed than in the first two movies. It is not the same version in the fifth movie, but sure it is used in the sixth one.
Secondarily, we can see that the windows in the roof of right corner tower of the Entrance are not in the same place than the ones in the roof of left corner tower. Little detail.
Now, let’s do an analysis of the front facade of the Viaduct Entrance.
We count 2 lines of bay windows. Each one divided In 3 parts. These 3 parts are separated by two big buttresses. About the first line, in the first level: the center part does not contain any bow window, as far the door is there. Each bay is divided in equal parts + the part at the top of the bay, which is bigger.
The bays of the first line are composed like this: 3 equal parts + the top part. The bays of the second line are composes like this: 3 equal parts + the top part. In each part of both lines, the bays are separated by buttresses. Buttresses smaller than the ones separating the parts.
The corner towers have 2 windows line on their lower part, and 1 line on their highest part. Both parts are separated by a line of corbels.
If we imagine an inscribed trigonometrical circle in the lower part of those towers, the roof windows are on 0°, 45°, 90°, 225°, 270° and 315° in the right tower (90°, 13°5, 180°, 270° and 315° for the left tower). It indicates us one thing: there are “right” windows and “diagonal” windows. I already mentioned it, but the roof windows are not in exactly the same place in the two towers. Another thing: the Quad is linked in the East Wing by the Stone Bridge. This bridge is somewhere between the left tower of the Viaduct Entrance and the Medius Tower.
I think we have enough information to continue without a lot of discovers. So, to the next time for the IG screenshots!
It is hard to estimate. IG, we have change our server two times, so the stats had been reset two times. But next to the time spend IG, we can include as time spend on this project a plenty of hours spend looking for documentation on the Internet, in video games and movie, time spend to organize and understand this documentation. Well, I would so hundreds of hours, but I cannot be more accurate.
Today I will show you the screenshots of the beginning of the East Wing, namely the ones of the Viaduct Entrance.
I invite you to read again the previous documentation if necessary, we begun to build a part of the lines of bay windows.
We mounted to both towers and set the limits of the 3 parts on each line. Next step, rely on the center and build the door.
We tried to respect the most we can the number of drips on the buttresses, as well as their dimensions.
There we are. We reproduced the top decoration of the door, with small spaces along it. We think about finding another solution for crests above the door, the item frames do not appear as soon in your vision as blocks, and they are quiet high compared to the level of the ground. The bays of the second line have been slightly elevated, we mistaken by copying the model the first time we did.
Today, I will present you a little part of our documentation of the Viaduct Entrance as well as pictures of the Entrance Courtyard clock. We recently noted it missed since the very beginning of this courtyard building, it was time to put things right.
We will concentrate to the wall linking the corner tower of the front façade of the Viaduct Entrance to the finer tower, behind it.
We can say from the outset that the decorations around the larger tower continue on the wall and on the finer tower. Decorations which are on the front façade.
These decorations divide the wall in our interest in four parts. Two small parts in the bottom and the top of the wall. Two big parts containing the windows and one windowed bay. As you can perceive, this bay is the same that the ones on the front façade. Much better: the small windows are the same than the ones on the outside wall of the Quad, Clock Tower side. More explanations with the next picture
There is a plan from the 4th movie. No matter what the Astronomy Tower looks like. The wall full of windows we can see to the right is the wall I just described. Another interesting thing: we doubted about that, and we would have done it for convenience, but there is a symmetry between the walls linking the corner towers of the Viaduct Entrance. We can see this wall (left side) on this picture. There is well one windowed bay and the three windows below it.
I will not spend much time to describing this clock. In a very simple way, we think this 3D render is quiet accurate.

And that is what the 6th game has to say about it. Now, you are used to not hope a lot from the game developers.
Same thing here, the windows which should 45° turned on the right tower (the one on the corner of the Viaduct Entrance front façade) are not there. Oh yeah, and the Astronomy tower is particularly ugly.

I post here two screenshots with a forgot-name resource pack. I will edit this message when I will remember its name. We strongly stay in the optic to use the default resource pack for building the whole castle. But we thought one different point of view would be nice to be shared with you.
