I'm making an adventure map (my first) and I was nearly finished when I realized that it wasn't very long. This being my first time, I'm not sure just how long it should be. I know that there are really experienced map makers here, so I wanted to ask you all, just how long ought my map be? because I've played some maps, and they were ridiculously short and left me high and dry. But I've also played ones that were WAY to long and dragged on and on like the mapmaker didn't care if I was having fun. I don't want my map to fall into either category, so I need to know what the best length is.
Depends on the map, honestly. What are you aiming for? If it's a short puzzle, go for an hour or so.
Remember, so long as the map is interesting and non-repetitive, it can go forever and still be fun! Diversity 2, Enderbent, CTM's and blitzcrank's Kanto Pokemon map all went for many hours, yet I never found them boring!
Like I said, play time should be determined by content. Puzzles should be short. Adventure puzzles should be far longer. If you can get a few people to try your map, and they + you feel it is the right length, it probably is!
