So I'm starting a new map called It's Locked. that's basically a Treasure Hunt map. I call it CTM loosely, because your goal is to climb a tower, with the requirement of having/placing a certain item near the door/barrier (haven't decided on either account) to reach the next stage. At the top of the tower would either be the end with a congrats you won sort of thing or perhaps a crazy monument you must build as your final challenge.
You are to spawn in Hardcore mode with no natural health regeneration. Through the magic of the option 'Custom', coal does not exist and all other ores/stones are twice as rare as normal. Your goal, in addition to collecting the required materials, is to find all the Magic Amulets. These will most likely be used as part of the tower at endgame. The map is not planned to have a border, but neither is a way to teleport to the tower from far distances planned, so don't go farther than you can handle! (Of course you might be required to. Not every item you need is located in every biome... *evil laugh*)
Perhaps some even fancier things with command blocks may be added in (A scoreboard to keep track of how much you need of what and what level on the tower you're at?) but I'd need someone more command savvy to tell me what commands to use (PM me if that interests you :D).
Okay, take this as a lesson for people who have a Mac like mine:
32 Render Distance, while the best view from Void to build limit, is extremely taxing on Minecraft.
Getting pics of the beginnings of my tower once I fix my frozen computer (on the laptop right now). Let's hope it saves!
It's currently all bedrock. I am thinking of adding an obsidian outer shell or something but I don't want that amount of resources just lying around so.
A double layer with obsidian then barrier with a pressure plate teleporter to get inside could work, but TWO LAYERS around even half of this massive thing? LOTS of work. Probably to be added after the release/in a beta testing or something.
The tower is now done on the outside! I'm beginning to make decisions on lighting etc. and set up each level (Of which there will be about 80) and begin making basic decisions about what is to be required at each level. I NEED people good with command blocks to comment (those available and willing to pm about aspects) so I can make this map as good as it can be. Otherwise some cool features could be lost (Point system to buy items you have previously acquired and fed to the door? Support for a team competition? None of that without people good with that stuff.) and that would be sad.
Pic of the completed tower: (Stretches from y=0 to y=255, 9x9 with 8x8 room inside, COMPLETELY hand-made)
Also, any feedback is greatly appreciated as well as suggestions! Went through a scare earlier when I accidentally tested out my reset spawnpoint with /kill ... Luckily enough people are desperate to get their hardcore worlds back I could get back my progress.
For anyone who is interested in the lower amount of resources and how that compares when actually mining, remember that 8x8 area I made a huge hole to y=1 in? In ALL of that, all I mined through other than stone was 1 redstone and 1 diamond. That would be approximately a 8x8x64 area (Note that with my settings no ores spawn until y=32) so yeah. Super rare.
