Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Jingle bells, decay and fails
The adventurers all died of fright.
Dungeons night, was never right
When the lich came in a sleigh.
I appreciate its been a long time since any updates so allow me to give a pretty lengthy one, though I'll warn you now it's not necessarily the news you've been hoping for.
I started this project solo probably about 10 years ago now. It grew and grew and grew and I had M join me in working on it because he was an absolute whizz kid when it came to technical work it would repeatedly blow my brain. Ultimately we probably bit off far more than we could chew, and I'm no longer in school anymore so I had less and less time to work on it.
At one point we had planned to greatly expand the scope of the project. Introducing NPC's, working firearms, perks that would affect dialogue and gameplay, interactive elements, you name it. We managed to get a fair bit of this working, with a completely redesigned beginning to the game with characters and interactions. Firearms were coming along nicely, as we're a bunch of other mechanical elements like terminals you could interact with, loads of new enemy types etc.
As I said though, I'm now 27 and I have a job, bills to pay, social obligations, hobbies, etc etc.
I ended up getting kind of screwed over by fate repeatedly. Issues with my Internet provider meant I was having long periods of no access or speeds of 3 maps down and 0.8 up, I had a laptop corrupt itself beyond belief that held a lot of important files and work we were using, a spell of ill health, a job move, house move, new minecraft versions releasing and breaking big chunks of our work. You name it, it happened - it was a real fun time. Likewise I think M had his fair share of bad luck the past few years too.
As my spare time dwindled I think both M and myself realised that I just wouldn't be able to devote my time to this project anywhere as much as I'd have liked anymore. M was still very eager to keep working on it and was nothing but great to work with, especially given I would often shoot down ideas of his (the control freak/nurturing of my blocky project kicking in) and we really had something special that we'd built together over the years.
The map itself got almost entirely overhauled and very few elements from the original release remained as they were either removed, replaced with something better, or rebuilt to look WAY better than they did before. And like I said, M had cooked up some really incredible stuff.
Ultimately me and M, from what I remember anyway, discussed how to proceed. He ended up taking the project pretty much off my hands though I said I would be happy (and eager) to stay on in an advisory capacity and do build work where I could. That, admittedly, was a long time ago now and I haven't heard from him in a good while - though equally I'm quite a self-contained person myself so that's not necessarily his doing. I'm not sure what shape the project is in now, as I haven't touched it in probably a few years, though I hope he's perhaps still working on it?
I think we spoke last about a year ago or so, though he's also gone from being a kid like me to going to Uni and all that kind of stuff. I've just messaged him to see how he's doing so hopefully all is well. But as I've always stressed to him, we gotta stick by the rule that real life is the most important thing and all that stuff comes before a little cubey worldspace.
For myself, during the past few years of Covid and Lockdowns I instead started work on a new project of my own. Given I was in the high risk category, I was housebound for some time so I've been working on a huge Fallout TTRPG project instead, that took the frameworks of dnd 5e and heavily retooled it (so much time and math needed goooood lord) which I'm working on still. Though this is reasonably close to completion at least and a far easier thing for me to handle which I'll be DMing for some friends of mine.
I'm sorry I can't deliver better news to you all, especially when some of you have been keeping tabs on this for so many years. But for the little it's worth coming from me, its been really quite incredible to know so many people have been interested in something I started by myself so long ago.
Originally it was born out of watching a Yogscast video where they played someone else's "Fallout" map that - in my eyes - barely resembled the series. I watched it and thought "I can do better than that!", so that's exaclty what I intended to do! Admittedly the version of my project the Yogscast themselves ended up playing was laughably bad looking back at it, but I hope that anyone reading this who is disappointed about the news knows that there are mountains of amazing works out there for you to enjoy, Minecraft, Fallout, or otherwise. And if you can't find the thing you're after, try your hand at it yourself. Stay creative folks!
At the very least, if there's interest, I'll see if I can salvage anything of the last version of the project I have tucked away, assuming they work etc and if I can find anything I'll try and make that available for people to mess around with
wow has it been a long time, this map just randomly popped up in my head from the yogscast series i watched a long time ago,i don't have much to say but i was tiny when i first looked at this and i just feel like saying something to not make the final posts on this forum so lonely
I first saw the previous version of this map in the (then) Yogscast Will series [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qv89CQ_5jJI] and he did a pretty good job of selling the map to me way back then. This project's been in the back of my head ever since for some reason, and I'd periodically remember that I should check for updates. Needless to say, it's been a very long time coming. Thank you for replying, and good luck!
Hello. I just wanted to say that it's a great shame that the original project has been taken down. For the sake of archiving, and the game's history, this map was not just a significant part of my childhood, growing up as a big fan of Minecraft and fallout, but also a lot of other people's childhoods, as well as being a significant part of the game's history. It is truly a shame to see this be unavailable, and whilst I acknowledge the issues and compatibility of the project with not just the current versions of the game, but the potential issues that the new launcher brings when playing older versions of the game with custom content, I still believe, and I feel a lot of other people would share my sentiment, that having access to the project in it's original form, despite the issues it may hold, would still be greatly valued. The new project that is being worked on, I can admire. It does sound very interesting. However, It's clear that this is a greatly ambitious project that will not see the light of day any time soon. This is understandable, there is no criticism to be made here. Life is life, It's busy, messy, and we have many other commitments than a Minecraft project. But that being said, even if this new version were to be released tomorrow, it still wouldn't be the same. The game has changed dramatically in the 10+ years It's been in the works for. Not to mention the additions, and changes that will undeniably be in this new version, whether it be for better or for worse (likely better). I guess what I am really trying to say with this post, is that for the sake of celebrating an old, fondly remembered piece of this game's history, it would be a joy to see it available again in it's original form, for the sake of archiving if not for nostalgia's sake. Of course, there is a good chance you may not even have access to the original anymore, and if that's is so, while it would be a great shame, it is completely understandable, god knows I don't have access to many of my files from 5 years ago, let alone 10. Anyways. Cheers, and hope to get a word back.
Hello, I am the "M" mentioned in SaveTheGnomes13's post, I've been with the project practically since it's inception (2014 and onwards). I am familiar with every block, every pixel and every command block in this project. Every bit of lore/story for this project is in essence mine and Gnomes' headcanon. Feel free to ask me anything.
We haven't had much success due to overwhelming ambition and we've made promises we haven't kept. For that I humbly apologize. I was 14 years old when I started working on this with Gnomes and now I'm 23. Ain't it funny how time slips away?
There is no "playable" version of the map as of May 2023. However, since other users have made certain files publicly available, I've compiled them here so you can sate your curiosity. I hope this will tide you over for now. These files are broken and don't represent the final state of the project, or anything remotely close to what me and Gnomes had envisioned. I hope to release this map in it's original state as well as a demo version of the "new project" sometime this year. Any support or interest is appreciated as I will be working on this by myself.

Been following this project since I was a little kid, thank you for closure <3. If you're planning on publishing the ttrpg I'd love to see it!
