How many times have you played a map and were forced to "cheat" ?
I fell victim on this formula too. Recently I found two playthroughs of my map and watched them from start to finish. The players kept dying in the beginning because the monsters were too many and the loot too little.
The players also struggled to find where to go sometimes, but that to their own mistake, the quest books always explain where to go and what to do.
One other thing, is that they struggled at the parkour coarse. When I made this segment, I built It to be purposely easy. But the problem was that I made It easy for me, and as someone who has played on the pvp side of this for years, ofcourse It would be easy to me, but not all players like parkour in minecraft. In both of the playthroughs, the players cheated at this part and I do not blame them. I guess the lesson here is that when you make a map, or a videogame in general, do not make It too difficult, because that doesn't mean quality.
Although I do not seek any more attention for my map, It has done pretty well on PMC, and I am making a new one anyways, still going to leave the name to erase curiosity.
Spectre's Cove: Tides of Terror
It's hard to find people who will complain about a map being too easy. It is very easy to lose attention if your map is too hard. While the design of some maps is to be punishing, in general, it doesn't hurt to err on the side of making things easier.
