I've had an idea for an adventure map using your mod for some time now. Here's the intro:
You are a Thaumaturge. A magician. A maker of the miraculous. You are not all-knowing however, a fact that the previous 3 and a half years have done a superb job at teaching you. About four years ago, a strange portal appeared in your laboratory. You poured over all the information you could get your hands on to figure out what it was. You scoured the globe retrieving as many dusty old research journals full of the notes of long dead master Thaumaturges as you could get your hands on. You eventually came to a realization. Nobody has seen this anomaly before. So you take a leap of faith... you walk through it.
When you walk through, you lose all sensation and consciousness. It’s as if, for a brief moment, you don’t exist. Then, you find yourself flash back into being. You are standing amongst the ruins of some structure that’s in such disrepair that you can only guess what it originally was. You think to yourself: “Well, I guess there’s nothing to do now except explore.”
So as you can see, my idea is pretty basic on the surface, but I plan to enhance it in the following ways:
The map will utilize CustomNPCs to create an interactive economy for the player to buy and sell survival mode resources, simulating that the Thaumaturge's skills and knowledge may be vast, but they don't extend into trade skills that require year of practice. The player will develop a close relationship with the tradesman NPCs, as they will need many different goods and services in order to do anything: The blacksmith makes the tools they need to harvest each specific resource in the game, the mason makes everything in the game that has to do with any kind of stone, the alchemist brews vanilla potions, etc. They'll also be a couple of apprentice NPCs that you can take as followers and they will "craft" basic Thaumaturgical resources when you give them the raw materials (Nitor from Glowstone Dust & Coal, Essentia Tubes from Iron & Quicksilver, etc).
I intend to write thousands of (tens-of, possibly) lines of dialogue and scenic description books to give the map the feel of those old CRPGs like Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment.
I'll be using Chisels & Bits to create highly detailed scenery on the small-scale, as well as the large. I've blown people away with the window designs I've made using the Ancient Stone from your mod and Stained Glass from vanilla.
Several dungeons will dot the map, allowing the player combat challenges to face, when they think they're ready. Each of them will also have it's own Quests and Rewards.
Unique Artifacts will be spread throughout them map, granting powers like: complete invisibility or ludicrous amounts of damage against the Undead.
They'll be custom hostile mobs created with CustomNPCs.
(Solely with your blessing) They'll be an interactive story line surrounding the Crimson Cult.
I intend to use your mod (Thaumcraft 5) in combination with CustomNPCs by Noppes, Chisels & Bits by AlgorithmX2, Bibliocraft by JDSinclair and More Swords Mod by Darkhax (the enchants make for some very interesting item combinations when used on things other than swords).
Please let me know what you think. With great intentions, ExAdventurer.
Here's what he said:
I had a hang-up involving my server and catastrophic hardware failure and all my work going down the toilet, but I'm willing to take another crack at this.
Who wants me to do it?
(EDIT) Feel free to ask me any questions about how I plan to do all this. Helping any of you understand it better will help me do the same.
