Not sure if this is the correct sub forum. There are so many!
So I started playing my map on Survival and I am really attached too its look and feel. I made a couple places to live and a vacation house. In short I am having a blast. But my one problem is that the map is just way too big....like 8 times the surface of earth.
So my question is can I copy/cut hundreds of chunks and paste them onto a blank canvas? I am trying to make a massive continent surrounded by oceans. I will also add in more boimes later as well since I don't have Mesa within reach. I want to make my map more manageable. Like the size of a real Hawaiian island surrounded by water as far as the eye can see? What is a good tool too use?
Basically, I want a finite world that is one huge continent (maybe a few thousand square chunks). Then some day I might start another minecraft map, build up a large part of it then add it as another continent into my "host" map file. Now I have two continents ... and eventually a world with oceans as a barrier of some sort. Thanks
This isn't the right forum (this is for discussing the creation of adventure maps and that kinda thing) but I will try and answer your question anyway.
The best all-round program for large scale map editing is likely MCedit, which is an external program for editing Minecraft worlds and moving things between them. It has a bunch of functionally and is a bit confusing for newcomers (so I would suggest looking up some tutorials about it as well).
Anyway, it can (for your purposes):
- Fill large areas with a particular block (for making oceans).
- Copy large area's from one world, save them as schematics, and paste them into another (though 1000's of chunks at once would probably crash the program :P).
Also, you can use the superflat world preset options (via regular Minecraft, not MCedit) to create a blank world of just ocean [Preset ~ Water World] or even nothing at all (no blocks but a tiny platform so you don't die on spawn [Preset ~ The Void]).
Thanks I will try the Ocean World first too see how that goes. I have been messing around with MCedit.
My ultimate goal is too make a nice huge world where I will make ... an adventure/quest/rpg map. But I figured if I am going through the trouble of building pathways and structures on Survival, that I might as well use those assets as part of my adventure map. Probably easier to create on creative ... but where is the fun in that?
