So me and a friend are trying to make a map, but we can't figure out how to get lava to be directly under water without it turning into obsidian. Does anyone know?
Also I'm aware we can use signs, but he made a pretty big stage, and placing down all these signs would make the game lag like hell. Any alternatives?
Does the lava have to be touching the water? If not, you could place glass blocks in between the two. Open fence gates would be another alternative, though they may cause some lag as well. Otherwise, if they have to be touching, you could try using a third-party program to add in the water and lava and make sure that they don't ever update. MCEdit or WorldEdit may work, but I don't know for sure if they will leave the water and lava un-updated.
If the blocks are supposed to be directly adjacent, then yeah, MCEdit is the way to go. If you place with MCEdit, the liquids won't update unless a player triggers a block update. If that's a problem, you could use a repeating command block to constantly use a 'fill' command to fill the areas, but this will probably be laggy as it'll constantly cause lighting updates
