I had an idea of creating a map where patches could be made by downloading certain 'regions' like the .mca files under the region folder under your save file, but I've had trouble when I tried copy and pasting a region into another copy of the same map(but modifying one). The result is that nothing changes? So I wonder, does anybody know how to do this or if this is possible at all? Thanks!
What i'm trying to do is to replace the region .mca files with ones from say, a version of a map with more blocks in the region. So, for say, I have created a map called 'Best Parkours'. To prevent users from restarting the game and I've had an update on the map, I could have users download newer updated versions of regions of the map and copying the files in. This should replace the old chunks with the new ones, basically adding in new content. With this system, it would be easier to create expansions for maps.
I have looked at those websites, however the information does not tell me whether it is possible to copy new versions of regions.
After looking more about the level.dats, I figured that region files would be related to some other file maybe level.dat that requires both to be modified. Ah well, it was worth a try. Thanks a lot for the help Ampulugator!
