All of the links for Tricky Treat are broken for me. They just link straight back to the forum page. Otherwise, I'm gonna have a go at this one. I'm particularly excited for the 1.9 one. I wanna see if you can figure out how to balance it. I think mini-maps may be easier to balance with 1.9.

Be
very careful with how many skeletons you use in your map in 1.9. I
decided to test my map in 1.9 the other day and the first couple of
areas were perfectly fine just like in 1.8, but when I got to the 3rd
area I started dropping in health like crazy and I couldn't really get
past the first room and it took me a few minutes to realize why. The
problem was that I started using skeleton spawners, and this one hard to
reach skeleton spawner was destroying both me and my friend.
So I did some tests there and noticed skeletons are around 3-6x more stronger than they were before depending on the situation. Here is what I found from some tests:
In 1.8
With full leather armor, on normal mode, in close range a skeleton will do roughly 0.45 hearts to you per shot
With full leather armor, on normal mode, far range a skeleton will do roughly 1.125 hearts
In 1.9
With full leather armor, on normal mode, in any range a skeleton will roughly do 1.625 hearts
You can no longer interrupt a skeleton's shots like you could in 1.8
Skeletons (and probably other monsters) will now search for you more vertically and will start shooting at you even if you are like 15 blocks below or above them.
If you are in the skeletons line of sight and it knows about you it will shoot at you regardless of range.
(Unlike before where the skeleton basically had to be within 10 blocks
to start shooting) This means if a skeleton has a follow range of 100 it
will start shooting at you 100 blocks away.
Skeletons of course now strafe making them harder to hit and stay on with melee.
Skeletons are actually dumb enough to strafe off of cliffs or into lava to their deaths.
So
basically fighting 4 skeletons at once in 1.9 is just like fighting 15+
skeletons at once in 1.8. Skeletons in 1.8 a lot of the time did very
little damage at all because you often just melee them which would both
rapidly interrupt their shots and reduce their damage for being close.
With
the increased vertical detection range now too, skeletons will now
constantly get the surprise on you before you even know where they are.
Most
monsters in 1.9 are basically just as threatening as they were in 1.8
with the exception of skeletons being way more powerful. Funnily enough
skeletons actually do more damage than a zombie now even though
skeletons have a way easier time hitting you. Again with the same test
as above a zombie will hit you for roughly 1.18 hearts per hit in 1.9
(1.07 hearts per hit in 1.8; hardly an increase at all). Compare that to
the 1.625 hearts per arrow from a skeleton.
Again the balance
can change in the future but these skeleton changes have been there for
a while in 1.9 now so maybe not. There are shields now too which block
all skeleton damage assuming you can aim your shield right, though
honestly with how much the skeletons strafe around using a shield feels
very awkward, especially when multiple skeletons are involved and how
quickly a shield can break.
Here's another LPQ. This time I conquered Spooky Horror.
I like the format of these. It seems silly sometimes when it takes people 8 episodes to beat a jam map, and itd be a lot harder to see all of the maps that way too.

I'm glad you think so. My plan is to do one for most Jam maps. In fact you should keep an eye out for your map tomorrow!

I think Vechs is trying to figure that out at the moment with his series on his channel. I'd bet he'll come up with some pretty hand tricks and tips for it soon.
It isn't. 1.9 just means you have to cut back on the hyper spawners.. (which are already meh IMO) My MapJam map is in 1.9 I beat it will the lowest gear the player will always have. I haven't gotten any feedback so I don't know if other people had different experiences.
Have you all even played in 1.9? Isn't this combat more fun than before? Or will I be the only mapmaker here that dares to make a map in 1.9?
Mobs in 1.9 will be satanic, and I'm not talking about the good kind of satanic.
I'm with Chip on this one. 1.9 had the potential to be good, but the awkward combat change and food change is something that CTM map-makers cannot simply avoid. There's much more to 1.9 than shields and more powerful skeletons. There's amazing command blocks, elytras, etc. but there are many awful things in 1.9 that over weigh the good things in 1.9. Anyways, I'm mostly neutral about the 1.9 thing, but if the food regeneration thing stays, I'm gonna continue mapping at only 1.8 or lower.
Enough 1.9 talk. Now on to my map progress!
I finished the first wool today! Considering it's a jam map and all, I think it looks really nice.
EDIT: I heavily changed the third pic, so just ignore that one.
I think I may have went a little OCD with the cobwebs in the third pic...

Personally... I'm not really for Minecraft 1.9 when it comes to CTM maps. While the elytra are tons of fun, the new command blocks are sweet, and some of the new items are interesting, the new combat (the main focus of the update) hasn't really been all that impressive, skeletons have been buffed through the roof, and the (God forsaken-ly awful) saturation/regen system is just extremely broken.
The new regen system is the real bottleneck, as there's no real method of combating it. The moment a player is able to get a good stockpile of porkchops, golden carrots or anything that has high saturation, the difficulty of the map instantly drops down massively and they can pretty much replace regen and health pots. "Why carry 4 Potions of Healing II when I can just carry a stack of steak which heals even more in just a few seconds?" If this system is allowed to stay the way it is, we'll be giving out nothing but cookies and melons in all of our maps.
I'm willing to give it a try once the whole update comes out (work with it in a mini-CTM), but I fear it's just going to be a flaming disaster overall.
Oh right, I forgot about the food thing. It's one of those ideas that sounds good on paper, but was executed poorly. Reminds me of that mod for 1.6.4 I played once...
Then again, 1.9 isn't complete yet, they could still change things. We might be able to convince Mojang to revert it or fix it where it's not so OP.

It's impossible to balance in 1.9 ;_;
If your looking for help, Mithey made a great post about skeleton balance in 1.9 over on the CTM Community thread. I'll post it here-
That's about how they're broken 1.9 is a mess.

Additional Note: In addition to the usual duties, the master has asked that we board up the door to the cellar.
Under no circumstances is anyone allowed to enter the cellar.
Thank you.
