I started this post hoping for inspiration for my map but people really enjoyed having their ideas heard. So i decided to turn this into an official forum.

If you are makeing a map and you are useing an idea you will recieve a shoutout here:
maybe have it be like a temple that you fill absolutely FULL of traps like TNT and arrows and things that people off.
it would be made from nether brick and stone brick and would have a lot of zombies and skeletons and other undead mobs that would ambush them and it would be kind of a puzzle with secret levers that open hidden passeges that lead deeper into the temple and the wool could be in a spot where it would be kind of like indiana jones where when you grab it tnt well go off in the room and you have to do a dramatic escape (make sure it wont blow up the wool though). hopefully this is enough and if not i well add more.... oh yea and have a spawner in there for meh

How about some kind of gear/clockwork based area where you have to make your way up to the monument block by climbing on the mechanisms? (That's an area I had for The Painter that I decided not to use.)

Maybe my next map but i want this map to feel abandoned and uncharted.
have a "branch" for each wool. every branch is designed for a certain class. in each branch there are 4 areas. (not including the one you entered.) you have to get 3 items for the wool. one for each area. and the fourth is where you trade them with a villager to get the wool.
this is for 3 branches, and one of them leads to intersection 8.

If so, I can't really implement that because I'm trying to get The Painter out before 1.6. Good idea, though. If 1.6 hits during development I might base an intersection around that.
