Are there other like me that are a bit scared of 1.9? Right now working on a map and not sure what update it will be ready in. I have the hunch that they might do a Minecon surprise release? I find the lack of information and snapshot really difficult to work with while the next update might be close. What if because of 1.9 my map becomes too difficult or way to easy?
I wouldn't worry about it. If 1.9 comes out before your map is finished, just go back to 1.8 in the Minecraft launcher. If you don't know how to change the version of Minecraft, watch a tutorial on Youtube since I am too lazy right now to explain it in detail.
Said CTM action will continue in about fifteen minutes, after I decide about how much dinner I'm going to have, and how I'm going to tackle dealing with more void. I hope to see you soon.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Hey there all. I stream CTMs as well as other indiegames, RPGs and more. Check me out: www.twitch.tv/aurabolt
This gets a little specific in places, just a few ideas, really what you want to do is distract to player from all the ugly (or bland). I don't really know what your theme is, so maybe a lot of this stuff wont work out. Just suggestions/ideas.
- Lighting can really spice up an area- make it feel more natural, maybe a bit more of that. (don't over do it.)
- You could also vary the textures of the tree, like different log variants.
- You could add some dead logs on the floor, or more dead stumps.
- Maybe a few piles of cobble on the ground.
- Definitely break up the monotony on the ceiling. Adding some kind of vine, or stalactite.
- Varying the dirt layer might not be a bad idea either.
Also the more pics spoiler is empty for me. So I couldn't see any of the other perspectives.
So I could use some help with Monstrosity and this seems as good a place as any to ask...
We accidentally blew up the brown wool... oops. There's supposedly a spare box under the rail track but we haven't been able to find it. did we lose the map?
Hi guys! I have been lurking in this thread for a long time, almost three years now (you might remember me as Joni11101). Now i got a new computer and I can finally start creating ctm maps (already started working on one!)
Back on topic, I found an app called Crafters amino. It is very similar to twitter, but mostly for Minecraft discussion. I think we should open a CTM chatting room in the app, what do you think?

Look under the sign that says something like "Are you scared yet". I believe that the spare brown wool is under there.
Actually the best looking areas /should/ be near the start from a designers perspective.
Think about it, if you start off a map surrounded in areas that look really meh, you'll give up and get bored, and therefore never see the amazing areas that happen to be at the end. It's a commonly criticised thing in the games industry, some games really don't get this and it's sad. Compare that idea to the start of the Fallouts, or Elder scrolls, each game starts with a gorgeous set piece.
(Skyrim especially, within 10 minutes of loading the game up you see an ENORMOUS dragon sieging a town and run through burning wreckage)
It's something that is prevalent in the writing industry as well, you have to start with something good to get the reader hooked on reading on. Books that have awesome finales but spend the first 100 pages introducing new characters around a dinner table never get finished.
Of course, the best solution is to make it ALL pretty, but y'all don't have time for that
Actually what I mean is everyone has such unique areas for their first map, meanwhile for me I am trying to think of something "unique" and all I can think of is reusing the same stone/grass/forest area
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll take a look at it. Do you have any other maps that you'd recommend in addition?
Ohh man, the wild kingkaider is out of his natural habitat! Seriously though, welcome back. (I loved all of your maps back in the day)
Hello CTM Community. <3
Yey, you've renewed the download link. It's very generous of you. Thank you!

I found the theme for Ragnarok Proofing!
I'm a pixel artist who makes pixel things and maps! I also do line art occasionally.
I have two work in progress resource packs!
This is the second one!
And of course, by "work-in-progress" I mean "will never, ever be completed".
What do you enjoy the most about playing CTM (or other custom) maps?
Please answer in the form of filling this poll: http://strawpoll.me/4531858
Guys! Aura's gonna be streaming in a bit!
He's going to be doing some other games first, but there will be some CTM action later!
Come hang out!
Have you tried Terra Restore? I think the last boss fight is rather dramatic.

Hey need some ideas to make this less, i don't know the word. Bland maybe?
more pics
I'm not a good mapmaker so I wouldn't trust my opinion or anything,
but try to add more block variation as it seems your only using one block on the ground level (which is dirt)
It also seems to me that you may have a lack of foliage to add some "pizazz" to the area.
Play around with it, I am sure you can get it
Looking nice!

*Looks at everyone's areas looking all impressive and stuff*
*Meanwhile I can't think of a good starting area*
Anyone have a good map for me to lets play on youtube? I'd like to make a youtube account soon and make some videos, seems like a fun idea, right?

No it's just something I was working on offhand
You know, the starting area doesn't have to be the best-looking area. The best looking areas should be near the end.
Look under the sign that says something like "Are you scared yet". I believe that the spare brown wool is under there.

Same thing with lore and stuff...
