im almost ready to throw out a screenshot or two of my WIP, its coming along slowly but surely. no one really knows it exists except a few members kind enough to provide me with feedback in PM. Anyways, first area is in progress, most of my planning is done, its really just coming to minor details in the landscape and the visual hints given to the player. Not to mention ive had to scrap or rethink many ideas to make sure the gameplay is how id like it to be . (Im talking about only the first area here, i sure as hell havent planned the whole map!) can i say hell on here?
First dungeon (in first area): coming along nicely, the dungeon, outer structure and area around it is blending beautifully, which is a relief, saves a lot of re-doing and reconstructing of structures.
Now that ive gotten that out of the way, i have a COMMUNITY QUESTION (in bold to catch your attention in hopes you dont scroll past this ): what is your favorite block combination in all of your mapping experience?

Anything that doesn't use Obsidian, Glowstone, and Redstone Blocks together. IT BURNNNNSSSS
But on a serious note, I love the ruggedness of a wall made with the right combination of Stone Bricks, Gravel, Cobble, and Cracked Stone Brick. Simple and sweet, with some vines hanging over bits of it.

I really like the new red sandstone variants. Maybe some of that mixed with some other earth tones like dirt or soulsand. I also like to take some heavily textured blocks like soulsand, dirt, cobble, or maybe even sandstone, and mix them with a clay variant. Can have a cool affect, mainly for walls and such.

I think it's the combo of the soulsand and jungle leaves I used in the first area of Laingral. I think it's one of the areas in that map that actually looks good :-)

I actually really like stainedclay when its used correctly. And I would include hard-clay in there too. I've done a few areas with the various clay types and i think if you are careful you can make some really nice stuff with it.
Do NOT use mcedit 2 yet. The only thing it's currently good for is crashing, being unstable and screwing stuff over
It's a tech demo/alpha build. CW says it himself: "MCEdit 2 still has a long way to go before it is ready for general use. I hope this gives you some idea of where things are headed.". The build is just to give you an idea of what it will do, using it will probably end badly ;-)
This is my first post on this thread
I come to you with a banner I made for this community, I hope you like it!
Also, here are two screenies of my first CTM map (WIP). It'll be a small, hardcore map with only 3 wools, a quick one
I'd appreciate any help or feedback!
The tools I've used up to now are:
MC Edit: for the caves, the meteor, the stalagmites and stalactites.
World Edit: to add the clay and packed ice to the walls.
It's been entirely too long since I've had time to make a Let's Analyze. But I got one out anyway! Here's episode 5 (with a few spoilers for Depths of Irkalla) all about changing gameplay styles, aka differences in kind for fellow Extra Credits viewers. I talk about five different dungeons, how we can introduce differences in kind by making slight changes, different scenery, and (sort of) how to design them. Let me know what you think, especially disagreements, since debates are always fun!
Let's Analyze Episode 5 : Mixing Up Gameplay
p.s. There may also be some screenshots for an upcoming project in there
Is your map an Open-World one? I checked your thread, but there's really not much info on it. I kind of like the idea of a totally barren Open-World, with extremely detailed and alien caverns underneath, and since it is the moon after all, perhaps you could take the time to explore some totally new area themes?
There isn't much info on it as I started the project 4-5 days ago. I have NO IDEA if I want linear-branching or open-world. I will say this: My map about The Moon won't entirely take place on the moon. There will also be a required custom resource pack. More info and screenies on my thread later today!
EDIT(7:45PM EST 2/3/15):
I'm starting to livestream a bit myself! I've just started and I'll be streaming Archangel Rising part of the Chimarian Memories series by Chipmunk46!

Sometimes I feel like I need to just throw Septum at you and see what else I could do with it and extend the development time even more
Greetings. Today, day 4 of my 90 day CTM project, I wrote up a whole wall of text on traps in CTMs. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out, and I'd like to see your thoughts on it. You can check it out here.
Also, don't you dare do that Fanny. I want Septum out now. NOW.

I'll actually be sending out a small beta of the completely done I1-3 this week

Hi Muaton99, that banner is awesome! We can add it to the main thread if you like, (right fang?)
Your area seems to be coming along nicely and I like where your going with it. What are your future plans for the area? As I see it now it looks a little lonely, and maybe could use a little bit of erosion. Try adding a bit more ambient lighting around the snowy bits. Also maybe change the snow around the lava and fire into stone (doesn't have to be stone), it might give the cave more texture.
Also, what version of MCEdit are you using? And what version of minecraft are you working in? I ask because in MCEdit unified you are no longer limited to replacing like this: block x to block y. Now you can replace with multiple block types, like this: block x to block y, z, b, a. That means no more world edit in that respect. link MCEdit Unified here if you don't already have it: http://khroki.github.io/MCEdit-Unified/
Its great to see another new face here on the CTM Community!
I just had to spaz somewhere! With the namechanging and having old "prime" usernames released, I just managed to nab "Aimee" as my new Minecraft username. I am rare.
Oh, thanks for mentioning this. I just got "_Drago" as my new username.
One day I will finally purge the world from any hint of knowledge that my name was ever anything other than Drago...

Some pretty exciting sounding stuff to come in it.
Special thanks to Axl Rosie for the sig.
Yeah. I'm excited.
