Rock I'm watching your Ragecraft II Insomnia LP, and Smeagolow I'm watching your Storm the Castles DevCom, and Elias' LP on it. Very enjoyable videos all of them. Looking forward to Storm the Castles II, I know you will fix many of the issues the first map had, but please, consider my advice, cut down the number of Zelda references.
I know right lol, went so overboard with those... Now I know how to do loot balance so there's that xD
Yo, I'm goldentwister. Haven't been very active on this thread recently, but I have worked a lot on the map that tasch started. I've started mapping about a year ago, but sadly most of them have not gotten past intersection 1 I joined this community around May of this year and yah...
Also, I'm prolly never gonna be able to map on mcedit again after mapping on tasch's server...
Hello there, I'm Tasch. It's pronounced "Tash", by the way. I'm from the east coast of the US, and am about halfway through my freshman year of college. I got Minecraft as a birthday present about 3 and a half years ago (actually now that I think about it, it was *exactly* 3 and a half years ago to the day). It took me a little while to really get into Minecraft, but in the summer of 2012, I built myself a gaming computer and started making videos of my playthrough of the Super Hostile series. It wasn't long before I decided "hey, I want to make stuff like this". I've been here ever since, and have yet to release a CTM map. (Okay, I made one minimap and two "Race for Wool" maps, but beyond that, nothing I've even worked on has been released.)
Recent developments in my life: I began work on a full-sized, subterranean semi-open-world CTM map entitled "Thanatos". I went away to college, forcing me to put a halt to my (still incomplete, but very-nearly-done) LP of Ragecraft II. I started working on a smaller "sketch" map that I'm calling "Pinnacle". (Fun fact: Pinnacle is approximately the size Thanatos was originally supposed to be.) 2 weeks ago, I started organizing a community mapping project, after a whole bunch of discussion in the thread regarding "oh noes is this genre of map dying", in an effort to revitalize the community. The map is currently relatively close to being done, but it seems like either I'm not on when everyone else is, or work on the map has slowed down a whole lot. This makes me sad. C'mon, guys. Don't let this map sit around in a nearly-finished state. I want to see this succeed.
But yeah, I'm Tasch. Hi there. How are you today?

Drago: am I a veteran now? I mean, I have been here for about 1.5 years.....
Tasch: Mostly it's just that most people are done, and there's about ~5 unfinished area's left. I know I helped Caec a few days ago with getting idea's for a boss fight, and I'm just super busy with school stuff right now (as per usual) but when things clear up a bit I think I should be able to finish my area in 1-3 days. Also, lots of people wanna work on black wool mate
Also sorry for general post glitchiness. First quote part is Drago, second is Tasch.
So if everyone else is doing introductions or re-introductions, I suppose I might as well too. Especially since there are probably more than a few people besides Al (and is that with an L or a capital i?) that might not recognize me.
So I am a 21 year old college student from Northeast Ohio. I've been playing minecraft for a few years now but never got into mapping until about a year ago. I have done some mapping type custom content in other games, mainly Age of Empires II, Halo's Forge, World in Conflict, and a little in some other games too, but nothing too notable.
I started on my map Depths of Irkalla more than a year ago. Infinity was a HUGE help testing it, and also got me to start doing some more with the community, which he at the time was newer to than he is now. He's been a little more active than me since, ok maybe a lot more active, but I've been trying to do more with the community lately, such as the community map which has been a ton of fun.
My map itself has been in Beta for a while, but should be released soonish, probably before the end of January. Since the first posts in the thread are being updated now I would like to have my map included. Are we still supposed to be PMing the community account or is that different now?
Anyways, I'm glad that someone is tidying things up in the thread, even if there might be a little controversy about who is doing it. Nice to have you around AI/Al.
Hi Tasch, in fact, it was awesome from you to come up with the idea of the community map, in my opinion we need more things like this.
I also want it to succeed. Hopefully you will get the remaining areas/features done before we even realise.
Today I'll try to do something about the third post in the thread, the formatting broke at some point.
Update 1: Partial information is now displaying. Some maps need to be removed from the future releases as they are already published (Kipuka Fields, Remote District III) or cancelled (Monster Hunter [?]). Can you confirm that these are to be removed? There is an issue with the formatting of Fate Helix II: Ember Fields. Is there any reason for this?
Wow. My map(Lands of Mystery I), which was restarted about 3 times already :P, still hadn't gotten changed. Remember back in the day when that hacker went in and changed everyone's map names and screwed up the OP? "The Pinter"?
Well no one has bothered to change it from "Lands of Mystery" to "Lands of Mystery" so it would be great if you could do that.
CQ:How do you make the mass terrain in an open world map?
I've seen all these open world maps, and I really want to make one. I can do the structures and dungeons, but how do people make these gigantic realistic landscapes? W/E and MCEdit really aren't working out.

Worldpainter. Worldpainter mate. Just watch some tutorials, get a few tree packs (and maybe some other BO2 packs), some custom brushes, practice a bit, etc.
Monster Hunter was not cancelled! WTF dood. And I'm a member of this thread's admin team- just post concerns in that PM. Also, how come you've been sneakily added to the admins? Hmmm...
Krose, read my explanation up a bit on this page. It wasn't sneaky, just not handled very well.
Also, I didn't know you still wanted to be a part of the admin account. I actually started a new PM that included the changed password, so technically you aren't actually a member of the admin team. If you're still up for it and can be around to make changes when needed, I can add you in.
Honestly I wouldn't mind helping out as an admin. I haven't done it before on this forum but I've done similar things on other forums or with other groups. So I guess this is me stepping forward. I haven't posted as much but I do keep up with the thread and post when I have something to say, and I wouldn't mind taking a more active role in the community. I know I've gotten to know a lot of you a bit better through the community mapping project. I don't know who's taking resumes per se so if one of the admins wants to chat send me a pm. If you'd rather have someone who's been around a bit longer that's totally cool too.
As far as Al goes, I had my reservations but if he's heard of my map then he must know the community pretty well.
Is there a way to turn off the Guardians Thorns effect? I created Cyclops but I don't want the player to take damage everytime they attack the map doesn't have natural regeneration after all.
You should try equipping it with armor that has a negative thorns enchantment to see if it cancels it out. I have no idea if it would work or not.
hopefully opening the way for further CTM maps to be included.
that will never happen. good luck even getting along the fact that other CTM maps exist to Mojang - they'll never add any more unless it's by a huge mapmaker that has made other popular maps
however, if you're truly wanting to help the community, maybe you can do the thing that all of us have failed to do and get CTM maps into the spotlight
Talks were had yesterday with YTers with 7.6 M and 5.6 M subscribers. They agreeded to do a collaboration in a CTM map, but they also had their requirements, and I'm sad to say that realistically there is currently no map that could be reckomended for them.
How much CTM's have you actually played? Because I think it would be weird if you were the guy recommending maps to people, having played like 1 CTM or so.
The number of CTMs I've played is certainly low. In fact, I've only completed one, Black Desert II v3.2, and it was a couple weeks ago. In, any case, I've not said it was me who contacted this people. The person who did has far more playing experience regarding CTMs. I think your worries are unfounded though, happily for me, playing experience does not make you an expert on what CTM maps do exist, and what features they contain. You can watch an LP for that, or make a fly through.
You can watch an LP to understand how a CTM works, and for what kind of footage it makes. You can make a fly through to well, urm, not that much.
I'm not saying you should have played a CTM completely before you can rate it. But you DO need to have played through some of them. You can't rate maps by their core aspect, gameplay, if you haven't experienced gameplay yourself, it's going to be very difficult to understand why some maps do way better than others. I pretty much assumed already it wasn't you talking to them, and I don't really care who it was either.
Don't get me wrong, playing a lot of CTMs doesn't make you a CTM expert. But you can't be an expert without playing them.
See, if you're willing to be a good mod in here, I'm not really happy with what you've been doing so far. You just walk in, say Hey, I'm the new mod. Then you tell everyone what to do, say that everything wiill change, and then you come in and start shouting big subscriber numbers saying you did not reach anything.
I've been around in the minecraft community for quite a while, and although I'm not a big YouTuber or anything, I know that there's FAR more going on behind the scenes than some people might sometimes think. I also know that there's usually not talked about that kinda stuff, since, well, it's behind the scenes.
This thread has always been an open discussion for everyone to join in and have fun. It's a point where mapmakers of all over the place come together to just share ideas, talk about stuff. Mods in this thread have always been on the background. They supported where needed, if someone went to far they took measures, they updated the OP. And they sometimes joined in as members of the discussion.
I think you kind of need to take a bit of a step back for now. I understand that you want to help out, but remember that you're helping us out, not leading us. It's the community that decides what gets discussed in this thread, by just kinda talking. I don't think it would be good if you were to turn it into a thread to vote what map will be played by big LP'ers.
Brandonn kinda gave a good example. No offense man, I can definitely understand you do this. But CTM mapmakers shouldn't be focused on matching YTer criteria just to get a chance at getting a big Let's Play. That won't make for good maps.
And somehow I did not see this. YAY MOLDY! I'd love you as a new mod <3
Still regret we never finished RH! Impossible now though You were an awesome LPer, I missed that time when almost everyone was doing it. XD
Lurkers are the best... we spend months thinking about what we're going to post and so everything we say is extra relevant. Right?
Indeed!
(and for pages later........)
Ok as a serious side note, I think I really need to do SOMETHING with this community again. Maybe I'll make a small map or something, because really I need to get back into things. .3.
See, I'm not saying discussion with LP'ers is bad. I'm just worried that, if you bring call that kinda stuff out in public, people react weird and go adjust their maps to just get that LP (which is understandable). That shouldn't be the reason to make a map.
The other thing I'm really worried about is AI just not having the experience required to understand how CTM's have evolved, what they came from and what they are. You can go play old/new maps, but without seeing how people thought then, understanding what was going on, meh. Experience is really a key aspect, and therefore I think someone like moldy (or anyone else. I'd love to help out somewhere, but I know not everyone likes me and a moderator should be accepted by everyone) would be much better to moderate this group, or at least provide feedback to AI.
I know right lol, went so overboard with those... Now I know how to do loot balance so there's that xD
Also, I'm prolly never gonna be able to map on mcedit again after mapping on tasch's server...

@Update 2, yeah sure. There's a big difference, playerwise, between Vechs and every other CTM. Mostly a reputation thingy.
Well no one has bothered to change it from "Lands of Mystery" to "Lands of Mystery" so it would be great if you could do that.

I'd be curious as to what those were - it could give me an interesting direction to take with my next series of maps.
You can chat with me about it here, PM or Skype. Just PM me if you'd like my Skype.
