I was totally going to name a forest area that in my SPAAAACE map. Jerk. :C
Oh, and Sculpted Caverns totally sounds like something out of Inspired Gallery (Which I'm playing right now and I love it and it's so good omg yes ctm heaven).
Not trying to obligate you to play it just...well it'd be nice to get some actual feedback. ;3;
Well... I guess I could just play it but I still don't think I will manage to get to it for a while because of all this school work plus other things. Maybe I could start it next weekend.. on second thought tacos are yummy.

Dungeon of Doom 2 by xChaikitty (version isn't specified)
Difficulty: 10 Overall Enjoyment: 1
Comments: Let me start off by saying that I gave up after the third "dungeon" area because I got bored. i just flew around with /noclip and things after that. Next, let me tell you that this map is ridiculously hard and the only strategy involved is running, placing torches, and dying. OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN... The main block in this map is bedrock. Yeah it looks great when it's everywhere. The only reason I gave aesthetics a 2 was because I liked the nether area with its floating lava and soul sand. There was still a bedrock wall of course. I also liked the castle near the end, but the castle was literally just pasted onto a flatland area. The map is extremely linear since most of the time you are just in a 3x3x3 hall of bedrock. You barely get any loot to help you in the beginning, and the "good" loot in the really isn't even that good and it's pointless to go after it when the dungeons are impossible. When you do get loot, it just several 64 stacks of diamonds and other stuff. One area had literally filled up with 20 ghasts in a few seconds. Did I mention this area is a bedrock square? Another had over 100 spiders in it. Spawners are spammed everywhere to the point of being absolutely ridiculous. Maps are okay if they are extremely hard, but they need to be possible. This map may be possible, but you just need to use the run in and die strategy for every area. The gameplay is horrible. I don't know about the creativity, because using squares, rectangles, and a plethora of spawners isn't very creative to me.This map is horrible, and honestly this map makers other maps are awful too. Every map he has is like this. Don't play it unless you want to have a good laugh of ridiculousness.

There ain't much left of the world these days. The gods have forsaken us, there's no denying that. But still you press on. For what? A chance to sift through the ashes one last time? The hope to one day be called a hero? Whatever your reason, you've got a lot of work to do. The corruption won't leave without a fight, so you better get started.
I think one of the reasons is that it used to be so much fun making a ctm map back in 1.2.5. You didn't feel obliged to make all sorts of scoreboard logic gameplay mechanics and super unique custom spawners. It was just make an area, add loot and spawners, and balance. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying these updates are bad but its just become almost a chore to make these. My second map had 4 intesections. Then when 1.3.2 came out I just never had the urge to continue it so I restarted. From then on I never got a map past 2 intersections.

I personally don't feel like all the special mobs and scoreboard stuff really matters. It's a nice touch, but I really don't care about it that much which is why I usually wonder why some people pour so much time into it. I'm much more interested in fun, and a special type of mob isn't going to make it less or more fun to me. Fun is based on balance and how unique each area is to affect the gameplay.
While I do feel like custom mobs/loot and scoreboard stuff can make a CTM more fun, I personally agree with clickonme that a map doesn't have to have those things in order to be good. Take Rugged Horizons, for example. It doesn't have anything to do with the scoreboard, it doesn't have too many custom items, and its only two custom mobs are iron sword skeletons and hostile zombie pigmen (as far as I know). And it's regarded as one of the best CTM maps of all time.
Confession time: As of now, I'm on IS4 of my own map and haven't added a single custom mob (unless you count a wide-detection-range regular ghast spawner as a custom mob). I definitely intend to add some later, but while making the map, it feels like a chore to implement those kinds of mobs, even if they're really basic.
@Terraria: As far as vanilla goes, Terraria > Minecraft by miles, especially with the new update. The only reason I like Minecraft more (and still play it) is because of the massive custom mapmaking community.
