Wasn't everyone worried about the thread dying a little while ago? Well, I'm certainly glad the front page finally has an update, even if it's a small one.
Does anyone have experience working with World Machine and then importing the maps into WorldPainter? If so, how's the learning curve? Is it worth giving a shot, and is there anything in particular one should keep in mind when trying it?
learning curve is kind of steep, as well as the price. Try to keep the dimensions of your wm build the same as intended minecraft dimensions. Also I would start off making worldpainter brushes, those can help you learn the basics before you start making maps.
I would watch jamzi boys videos on worldmachine. They are still very applicable, although simple.
Also keep in mind strong erosion doesn't always make your map good, even though it might seem good in the worldmachine preview.
Good luck, I'm excited to see you take up terrain making, its a great deal of fun.
Hi. I know this is spam, but the only people I kind of know in the entire forums are here, and there's a small chance that they'll read this. I don't want to make a big deal out of this, so here goes.
Do you remember me? I'm the person who reviewed the Strawberry Jam maps. After some consideration, I've decided to give up playing Minecraft, which means I won't be making any more reviews. I'm doing this not only because of other things I enjoy doing, but because I don't have as much time to play mc as I used to. I know eventually I won't have much time at all.
So I've put my maps up for download here. I know they're not good maps in any way, and none of them are CTMs. But I originally intended to publish them when they were done, so that's what I've done, even though they're all rough products and could've (should've been polished up before I published them). I'm not going to go into great detail about all of the maps, but there's one in particular I want to mention.
Caverns & Crevasses, an underground-themed parkour map which was supposed to have 20 stages, is currently unfinished. I put a lot of work into it, so I feel somewhat regretful leaving it unfinished like this. So maybe one of you could finish it if you want to? Even if you don't want to, you can take a look around and try out some of the parkour maybe. If you're going to try to finish the map, here are a couple things you should know:
- It should take place underground.
- It should have 20 levels.
- Each level was originally going to have a hidden cookie somewhere. (20 cookies in all.)
- The layout is really awkward. I din't plan it out on paper, so this is probably why.
- The quality of the map is really low, maybe the parkour equivalent of NTWICCTM?
So there's that. If you're actually interested in what maps I was going to review, here they are:
By the way, Acaran, I saw a while ago that you were looking for information on maps reviewed on the thread. The Strawberry Jam maps were made for 07/01/2013, so they should all be for 1.5.2 (I think.) I did play them in 1.7.2 though.
Wasn't everyone worried about the thread dying a little while ago? Well, I'm certainly glad the front page finally has an update, even if it's a small one.
It's a little step forward, but people are less active than I was hoping for. I was hoping to have all the newer maps in there in a few months but I haven't had a single map submission since the update.
Even people who are active here haven't bothered to send their maps in or fill out the descriptions if they are already present...
Also the map of the month section. I was hoping that when we didn't have a suggestion as a community - some interesting, inovative map, it could be a kind of a controlled billboard. But I guess people don't want to have their maps advertised.

The problem is people simply aren't releasing as many maps anymore. As time has gone on the quality of maps has increased so, save a few Jam maps here and there, maps take a long time to get released! This is why I am still all for bringing back the upcoming maps section, but I do get that the projects often end up burning out and (like many of the maps on the old list) never really get released.
Wohoo! Congratz Witty
I never knew you didnt' complete one map so far :/
I know, it is quite silly. But with not a lot to do recently, I've finally decided it was time to get some stuff done. Life gets quite boring without a real hobby or something to do. With some issues on my part preventing me from doing school, life gets boring day after day just watching Youtube. I'm actually really thinking about starting up work again on my CTM, but at this moment, it's unsure whether or not I can completely follow through. Regardless, it feels good to get that one over with and start working on some more CTMs.
EDIT: Reloaded my CTM with some mixed success. Looks like a good majority of the loot in my map is f*cked. But none of the signs and spawners are screwed. So that is good. Nothing I can't handle.
Figured I'd mention that the newest version release of Terra Restore 2 should be out next Monday. I've been doing version releases with each new intersection (with save world files to pick up where you left off) which has helped the map a lot.
The map now has 9/16 wools added and is now in 1.9. (while using 1.8 combat mechanics) It's a very unique CTM map (an adventure/CTM hybrid) which uses a ton of command blocks to enhance the world and bring it to life. It has mob boss fights, story with character development and cut scenes, an upgradeable monument base, you get to bring back life to a monument area which has been previously destroyed, there is music for the map, a currency system with ties in with each mob you kill, towns with minigames and shops, a fair amount of outdoor areas and areas in general that are not strictly in caves, some custom ability monsters, events, challenges, some achievements, has multiple difficulty modes, and more. ^^
But yeah, maps can definitely take a long time to make, especially if you use lots of command blocks and stick with the normal 16 wools/dungeons.

Hey all guys. My friends have asked me to try out this modpack called FTB Infinity, so we'll be going around together, and I'll do my usual exploring stuff and learning as much as I can. Feel free to join me!

Hey there all. I stream CTMs as well as other indiegames, RPGs and more. Check me out: www.twitch.tv/aurabolt
Has anyone ended up using the areas that Xekaj put out from his unfinished map back in 2014? I'm considering substituting one of my areas in Tale Of Two Swords for one of those, but i wouldn't want to have the same exact area as someone else in my map.
Edit: also a new thread for my map is up, I'll probably release it within the next two weeks, I took down the old DL because there were some major mistakes i made when i released it earlier that i was unaware of.
@Mithy Seems like a great concept good luck, and i hope to play when you're finished

I used a section of two of them, though it was before he released them to the public.
So, I finally decided to bite the bullet and try to learn worldedit.
First few days weren't fun :-( Spend about 3 hours everyday mainly googling, fixing up scripts that broke and trying to figure out how masks and wands worked.
Right now though, I feel as I've been missing out on so much power. Managed to get so much stuff done today, worledit may actually beat mcedit once you get through it's big commandy learning curve. Maybe. Still hate typing commands all day, but it works I guess :/

So many people are coming back to the thread. This is amazing!

Check out my bad CTM map reviews here.

I think Epic: A Song of life used some, but do not quote me on that. I recommend you check to be sure.
(Epic used the spawn area from the legacy pack, so he may have used other areas/schematics in the map)
