When playing a CTM map nowadays, what do you look for/want to see? Unique use of new features (I snuck a peek at 1.9 and it looks nifty) or more simple, "classic" gameplay design? Huge and sprawling areas with hours of gameplay, or more compact areas? Maps so difficult that you will question your will to live, or ones that are more easygoing? Everyone has different tastes, so I'd like to hear about them.

I mostly enjoy large areas, either dungeons or overworld places, as they give me a lot of room to explore. It really doesn't matter what someone's done in their map to me, but I do enjoy seeing what people are capable of coming up with in terms of unique items or gameplay elements. As for difficulty, I enjoy a challenge: a fair one, but a challenge none-the-less - one that pushes me to rethink my plan if something goes wrong. Though I do enjoy the easier maps from time to time, it's the fair-yet-challenging ones I enjoy the most.

I prefer seeing new things in maps. I enjoy encountering something I don't know how to deal with, or that just seems really cool in general. I prefer huge areas, but I try to keep the gameplay time short, mostly cause it gets to be a drag after a while. I like maps that are easier resource wise, but much more difficult difficulty wise.
Hey guys, I'm here again. How long have I been gone?

more focus on survival and less fancy areas because they make me depressed.
In answer to the community question: NEW things. Not just quality stuff, though I look for that too, but new concepts and ideas. There are a lot of Minecraft maps, and when you've played a ton like me they can tend to blur together. I want something where I feel like I'm playing something genuinely new.
Hey guys, I made a map that seems like it would be perfect for an area or a mini map. Its a bit less than 1k by 1k. Sadly I don't have time to work on it by myself but I don't have the time. If you want to use it or something, just message me and I'll send it to you.

]Sunlit Sky - Sponge Challenge 1 - uCTM-ish map
I made a map called "Sunlit Sky", and I plan to have it be the first of a series of CTM-ish maps that I make. I guess this would be considered a uCTM because you don't actually complete a monument, and there are 64 things to collect instead of just 16 (or however many wool colors there are). I guess this is still kind of a CTM, because it's played almost exactly like a CTM, you just don't have a monument. The goal is just to collect the items.
Since this is a Sponge Challenge, the items are naturally sponges. You can't really get those normally, so I figured it would be a good thing to have players collect. The 64 sponges are scattered in chests throughout the open-world map, with areas loosely increasing in difficulty the farther you go from the spawnpoint. The map is limitless, but the sponges are all within a few hundred blocks of spawn.
Since it's an open-world map, exploration is needed, and it might be difficult to find sponges once you get down to the last few. Also, since the goal is to collect 64 sponges, and there are only 64, keepInventory is enabled by default so that you don't lose any sponges that you pick up.
My Sponge Challenges aren't made with MCedit, they're created in-game (at least so far). I use custom world generation settings to modify each map. Sunlit Sky consists of flying islands of various sizes with an infinite ocean below (I suppose that's nicer than void). Also, my Sponge Challenges tend to use alternate dimensions somewhat. Usually, sponges in alternate dimensions are very close to the portal (within 200 blocks at most). Portals are also premade somewhere in the map, which is a good way to tell if you're supposed to go into other dimensions.
In Sunlit Sky, about 10 sponges are hidden in the Nether (give or take). Quite a few are in one particular Nether cavern that I would advise not going to until you're very well equipped, or you'll probably get destroyed.
I'd also appreciate it if you could give me any suggestions/comments that you have. I'm planning on releasing an alternate version of Sunlit Sky called "Shadowed Sky - Sponge Challenge 1+", which is a more difficult version of Sunlit Sky. Please let me know what you think I could change to make the map a bit more evil for that version. Also, if you're worried about anything blowing up (I tried to keep Sponge Chests far enough away from creeper and ghast spawners to avoid it), feel free to change the gamerule for that.
(Sponge Challenges for 1.9+ versions will have a sponge block as their icon on the world selection menu, and each Sponge Challenge+ will have a sponge with inverted colors as its icon)

Since I don't think anyone has done reviews for maps in awhile I figured I'd do some for more recent maps.
Ragecraft 3: The Prophecy

Difficulty: 6.5/10

This map was simply amazing. I could leave it at that but I'll talk some more about it. From the start of the map I knew it would be great and even the starting area instantly got me hooked. Each area came a new experience that introduced new mechanics to the game I didn't know was possible. Heliceo was able to make a map with great continuity but still have each area be extremely diverse and large. The areas were very large but didn't become a chore to explore. The gameplay was interesting all throughout thanks to awesome mechanics, cool mobs, and loot that had special abilities that were so much fun to play with. Depending on your equipment and surroundings you have to adapt your playstyle but not in an annoying way. Almost everything in this map was something new and fresh that hasn't been seen before in CTMs. The aesthetics are by far the best I've seen in a CTM. Not much more to be said about that. Even with how great it is there are a few flaws. There were some areas that after awhile, their mechanics became annoying, namely Green and Red wool. The bosses were great but very long in a few situations. My favorite CTM to date by far.

This map was a solid third entry in the series that vastly improved on the previous two but with its flaws. The areas themselves were pretty but some of the block variation was a little messy. A lot of the mechanics in the areas were nice concepts but poorly executed such as the Chess area or the Library. Even with some of the areas not living up to what they were supposed to be there were a lot of highlights. The interesting take to an alternate universe much like Heliceo's alternate Nexus was well done although very easy due to broken Pigmen agro. The Infuser was the clear high point of the map and showed what a lot of the map could have been. Custom recipes was really cool and really well done however the ingredients required way to much grinding to make the items crafted useful unless you want to spend hours farming Blaze in The Scorch. Many of the areas you could just run to the end of without anything stopping you, which made some areas very boring. The Black wool and its boss were very underwhelming as it was just a stand there and whack him in the corner for 20 minutes type of boss. A lot of the loot was extremely repetitive having there only be a few different variations of armor or weapons throughout an entire area. It was an overall enjoyable experience with a some highs and some lows.
Hey all. Planning on doing some streaming today-starting with Issac as usual, then see what's going around the forums to collect a new map to play-keep the old skills sharp. Feel free to join me!

Hey guys, I've been absent from this community for quite a long time (almost 2 years). I've had quite a few issues, both computer wise and in real life. I'd quite like to get back into CTMs so I was wondering what are the biggest CTMs of the last 2 years that I haven't played but should? Also, how is the state of the community at the moment, I know when I left we were going through some difficult times and I was wondering how the state of the CTM community is at the moment. Thanks - Adam.
Hey I may be a little more active on here

honestly not too long
Also armor stands are pretty cool, you can make nifty indicators with them.

OMG that looks really good you may need more than one wool for the size it is
In what program you built that???
I thought this was an actual mountain at first. *facepalm* Now I realize it looks too real to be a real mountain.
