Hi CTM people. I have played many CTM maps, and I'm planning on making my own Mini-CTM : "Hailstorm." The basic concept of the map is that you will need to use projectiles as your main way of damaging enemies. Melee weapons will be few and far between. Also, I'll be using snowballs, eggs, and command blocks to add some spice ;). Any advice on:
1. Area Ideas/Themes
2. Tips for MCEdit that could speed up the process.
would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know how many area ideas and themes you'll get around here. People keep their good ideas to themselves. I'd recommend looking at areas you liked in other maps for inspiration. Just make sure you're putting your own spin on things and being unique.
As for 2 it's hard to give general advice. I'd suggest looking up different filters cause they can really help with stuff. I'd also recommend starting on smaller projects before a full 16 wool CTM to get used to the program.
Good luck. I don't know how well a range combat focused CTM will turn out but it is an original idea.

alternatively, when i start brainstorming an area i go in this sort of order
AREA IDEA:
1. Establish the resources the player will need to find at this point in the map
2. Then establish the central gameplay element of the area
3. Then establish the aesthetic of the area
-Remember that it's always a good idea to tie aesthetics and gameplay to one another; what I mean by this is making important gameplay elements stand out and visually complement the area
4. Build off of those three points to create a cohesive area
Here's an example:
AREA IDEA:
1. Coal, some stone tools
2. Bow combat & explosions
3. Quarry/mines
4. So I can begin the area with the player traveling through some caves filled with creepers. Then the player will come across a big cave with some pockets of coal guarded by more creepers and there will be some structures that let them travel farther up to the ceiling of the cavern where the wool and the ghasts are.
Figured I'd post this here - for those looking for a way to disable the saturation regeneration mechanics in 1.9 I did up a quick tutorial on how to do it. Basically it turns off natural regeneration and then periodically gives players with at least 18 points of hunger regeneration for 1 tick of it.
Run these commands once:
/gamerule naturalRegeneration false
/scoreboard objectives add PlayerRegen dummy
/gamerule commandBlockOutput false
/scoreboard objectives add Hunger food
Put these in command blocks, in spawn chunks, in order and facing into each other:
Make sure any command blocks that are set to needs redstone has redstone powering it. Also note that the system won't work the first time until your hunger updates.
C'mon people, keep it together! No time like the present to keep things strong, realize we all have interests and more as Mapmakers, and keep moving forward to make cool, new experiences for players, yeah?
Speaking of playing, I'm planning on streaming-I'll interlace some Binding of Issac and the Realms server (if any work is to be done by me) before I return to Ragecraft 3. Feel free to join me!

Hey there all. I stream CTMs as well as other indiegames, RPGs and more. Check me out: www.twitch.tv/aurabolt
And speaking of which, I'm planning to be live again-same games as usual, but also perhaps some RC3-if nothing else, to get more than I've been carrying, and hopefully to make some progress in what I've lost. Might even try maintaining the Shrine of Bloodthirst as intended.
3:30 EST. Hope to see you there.

So I made this, but I'm struggling to come up with something to put on top of it. Any ideas?
Oh wow! That thing... looks... wow!
For something to put on it, I think it's best to correlate it to the theme or lore of your map. Because just placing some random structures or scenery without some context in this setting just seems... off. I see an area that has this thing as something that should've has a meaning behind it, not just another random area in the map.
Also, I would suggest you make the player could see the full view of the person, because that guy right there probably makes the best focal point of that area and the player shouldn't just start and complete the area on top of the dirt without getting to see a full view of the figure.

might be a good place for spawn, and make the first area or something around the statue.
Also, i suggest mixing in some leaves, moss stone, stone brick blocks inside, but it depends on what sort of area youre going for

Hey everybody.
I've been out of the mapping community for a bit, but I'm in the mood for some good maps.
Any good recent ones? I played RC3 and pretty much all good maps before that.
Thanks!
