So I've been remodeling a lot of my first map to be released (Hellfire) and I think I ended up changing an area so that now it looks like literal hell hahahahahaha I haven't seen the light of day in 10 days and supplies are running low
So I've been doing some work in World Machine trying to make a good looking mesa biome. Overall I'm pretty happy with the result, what do you guys think?
not bad! It just looks like you add a noise filter, which doesn't work too well. I suggest using a combiner with a perlin noise set to detail to add more natural noise after the erosion. Also terracing would work well for mesa terrain. Other than that good work!

Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep working on it. I'm also thinking that maybe the finalized terrain should be a bit smaller since as of right now it takes up nearly the entirety of the map height starting from sea level and it doesn't make much sense for a mesa to be as tall as the highest peaks of my tallest mountains.
It basically means, "this mob rides around on top of this mob" with the mob at the top of the list being highest up next one being next down ect.
Well yeah, I knew what the tag "Riding" meant. It's just that on MCStacker, I didn't really understand how the Riding option worked. I think I get it now though.

CQ: I should really get started on making maps or at least toying with the tools and mods to make them. Regardless I do love it when mapmakers cater the theme of certain areas towards the theme of the wool or record or whatever. But sometimes that can get formulaic when you're doing the progressive difficulty increase at the same time.
Do you have a tendency to make areas whose color combination and concept fits with the color of the wool?
uh not really, unless you mean that map starts with peaceful areas and such, then at the black wool it's all death castles and scary corridors. Huge no towards the colors part.

I've honestly never even considered that. At least not conciously, the water area in Minimalist comes at the blue wool. It might be an interesting challenge though

That's true that it can get formulaic, I didn't really think of that.

Hm yeah, might be interesting.
Well, thanks for the responses.
I just wanted to know, because I find myself subconsciously doing that...

I don't care about the Xs. You can call me Navarog. Or Nava if you really want to be a hipster. It's fine.
That looks pretty awesome, Kaiser. I will say that vines always seem to get in my way, but that won't be too bad.
Anywho, I am getting ready to play for the day-I'm reaching towards the Red Wool and Diamond, and finally....The Black Wool. It's so mysterious-I'm intrigued.
Thankfully, with my new voice setup, things move smoothly. Feel free to join us!

Hey there all. I stream CTMs as well as other indiegames, RPGs and more. Check me out: www.twitch.tv/aurabolt
Some work on catastrophic caverns! this is the purple wool... Corroded Scaffolds. Feedback is welcome!
The area looks nice, but you should add supports, like scaffolding, to the walkways. (Unless you are going for a sci-fi weird-looking area. Then just keep the platforms hovering) You might also want to consider adding more glowstone to the walls.

Use MCStacker, how Smitje suggested: http://mcstacker.bimbimma.com/
A website called MCStacker can help you make those.

Thanks for the suggestion guys. I will consider using it. The only problem I have with it is that I don't understand the "Riding" icon on the website.

COMMUNITY QUESTION:

i myself do not. i theme them around colors and shapes for sure, but then again i work without wool and with other blocks for the monument
CQ:
I rarely ever make an area that is the same color as the wool. The only wool I consider doing that for is a Nether-hellish red area for red wool.

Yeah, it's good to have some sort of central area theme.
I like having that, but for orange wool.
That's true that it can get formulaic, I didn't really think of that.
I didn't mean that.
Hm yeah, might be interesting.

Actually, yes.
My latest WIP map has most areas reflecting the color Banner* that they are holding.
