I see many things in this area that could use some changing. First of all, the lighting. The area looks very empty with all the darkness around it. Light up the walls a bit with some redstone torches. For the torches on the ground, get rid of some of those, except for the ones along the path you want the player to go down. The area looks very empty as I said earlier, so add more interesting things. If this is a garden, maybe make some giant vines or flowers. Make the area different than any other. Another thing about this being a garden. When you name an area, it sort of give the area a theme. When you have an area that's called "Garden of Souls", why make the only lush part in the end with a random platform? Make some of the ground grass, put trees, flowers. Add color. I would recommend keeping the brown on the sides of the cavern and have grass in the middle sections of the area. Another thing is the wool box and random floating paths. Why are they randomly floating in the sky? Give them some supports or something. A random wool box in the middle of an area isn't really interesting to the player.

Ok, I have a lot of things about this I don't like. There is no transition between the brown and green in the screenshot. It is extremely dark in the area, which I don't like. Maybe light up the walls with some redstone torches like you have on the ground. yep In my opinion, putting lighting on the walls is pretty important to give the player a sense of the size of an area. If they can't see how big it is, why make it big? true Another thing is the wool. Why is it randomly floating up there? Maybe make some sort of giant vine holding it up. Might add supports. The platforms are floating too which is pretty weird too. I agree with Fang, there needs to be more garden stuff. Trees are good. Trees are very, very, VERY, good. I have a few trees in the garden. Going back to the lighting, I like lighting up the walls and then vaguely lighting up the path that I want the player to go down. This area is extremely empty, maybe add some more interesting structures to it. If the area is called "Garden of Souls", then make it look like a garden. Not some weird elevated platform over a barren wasteland. Not a platform. It has supports.

For me, I use Warpbook, Not Enough Items, and the Better Creative Inventory mod, and some custom mob spawner/loot making programs to help with my mapmaking. Warpbook is just for going to certain sections of my map quickly. Not Enough Items is just an all-around handy tool. Better Creative Inventory gives me quick access to command blocks and mob spawners, and the custom mob spawner and loot programs are there to add a little more uniqueness in my map.
(I would use VoxelSniper as well, but Singleplayer...)

I use MCEdit for all of my terrain/dungeon layout. Then I port the worlds to my spigot server. I have the server set up with a host of plugins, (like nbt) making Loot and Mobs very easy to do. I will sometimes use world painter to make smaller terrain objects to append later.

I really like it. The only thing that's a little iffy for me is that, in my opinion, the pathways may have too many support pillars - they make the bridges look way more busy than anything else in the intersection, and to me that's a little jarring. That's only a minor nitpick though, and it may just be me. The area still looks great overall.
looks pretty good, but i think the pillars are a bit crowded as well. it also feels a bit too linear for my tastes- maybe you could try removing every other pillar and then making arches between the remaining ones.

Hello, So I am currently Making an Area in my map and It is the monument, the monument itself is a Bookshelf but around the monument is a library, and what I would like to do is have members of this community submit funny/serious stories so i can fill up the bookcases with stories so if people want to run around the area reading the stories then it will give them a good laugh or honestly make them very confused and question peoples sanity! Differenciate the floor and the walls. Add more so the blank space is less... blank. More "garden" stuff?

I actually don't use any mods for map-making. I am stuck to MCEdit for now.
For the spawners, I am just a geek and I use command blocks to make them.
