I will add more variation to the stone later, but I mostly worked on the clay part, I don't think I interpreted everyone's advice right but thank you everyone, if I don't have to make major changes I will add the buildings, foliage, plants, and of course spawners
Pay no attention to the lighting glitch.....
Also woah I am spamming the thread with big pics
EDIT: Curse you floating blocks :/
EDIT 2: Then as for making it less rectangular, erm, this noob mapmaker could use some advice on that... I made this area in a giant stone cube, so.... yeh
I'm trying to terraform my starting area, any opinions/help?
I honestly think the block variation makes this look ugly, but I can't decide between lime/green clay for a grass color....
(and don't tell me to use grass....)
The walls are a bit bland and having a rectangle starting area is no fun =P Shoot I wish I could delete this post Still though, keep trying to make it less rectangular.

I'm not too sure about that either. But I made this one area. It's a heavy work in progress as I started it last night. Here it is I guess:
I will also try and find better places for the torches. That will probably mean more structures.
Thanks! I know the sort of abandoned mine thing is super common but I want to really try to just get something down to complete a whole map or minimap. I want to use the Max Health item modifier a lot. The added hearts should give me a longer progression because I don't have to use the next tier every time; I can just add more health.

You said spawners but it's so bright. Will spawners actually work?

I don't care about the Xs. You can call me Navarog. Or Nava if you really want to be a hipster. It's fine.
I am 2/3 of the way through the Bedrock Block dungeon. After it's complete, the Emerald and Diamond block dungeons are all that stand between you and your Descent into Darkness! mwahahahaha

WHAT????
I had no idea you were that close!
Seriously, that's crazy. Looking forward to it so much!!!

I see you've made a very large area and has failed to fill the whole. You need a lot of practice. My question is, because you write from an account called MinecraftCTMmaps and do not know very well how to map CTM?
Thanks for the encouragement
Indeed yes I need practice mapping...
I plan to fill the empty areas with foliage of some kind
I have played lots of CTM maps so I have an idea on how to map but I am more of experimenting than anything, in fact my whole map will probably be one giant experiment...
EDIT: Forgot to mention, to make the area dark I put a bedrock ceiling at y =256, but you can see it :/
Any way to keep this dark and not see a giant rectangle in the sky?
You could just do /gamerule daynightcycle false then set the time to 18000, that makes it eternal night. If you don't want eternal night time, since this is the first dungeon, you could make it so when you place the white wool the darkness fades away.
Other than that, bedrock ceiling or world painter clouds are the only thing I can think of.
The village has this ruined feel, but the ground posses a more synthetic, plastic-y kinda vibe. I suggest you forgo all this stained clay stuff and go for a grittier block as your main ground layer. Like dirt, soulsand and speckled stained clay, or maybe patches of it stained clay. its hard to know before the foliage is in. But the lime green sucks for your theme in my opinion.
You really needed to add more height variation in. I might have made the water fall path toward a lake sized mass of water in the middle of the area. Just to fill in that empty space.

Yea, I'm changing the ground blocks... they look more radioactive to me
Ima play around with blocks until I get a block group I like
The village looks more eerie when the darkness is on it, I'll keep the ceiling then...
I'll add a couple hills to the ground and as for the walls well the cliffs don't have glowstone which is why you can't see any height variation, I can fix that
After I put in your suggestions, ima start on loot, spawners, and foliage.....
Been noticing a couple people uploading images directly to the forums as attachments - might be better to use imgur.com. It's a great image host, will make it easier for you to use again on a thread, and also allows you to directly embed the image into your post! So just more of a reminder/PSA.
I advise you to first of all learn how to terraform natural and good areas. (But you never start making a map without a good idea in the head as is the area). I have not tried you to stimulate wrong, you just have clearly expressed my vision of your area as you put pictures. The area was nice, too rectangular and too empty too. I myself took me about 6 months to learn basic techniques and improve much to believe me prepared for the challenge that are make a CTM map with a serious quality.
The rectangle look was a bad mistake on my part, but I am honestly to far to fix it so :/
and also as we speak I am actually filling in the empty areas right now. I can't guarantee I'll fill in every little block but of course I am trying my best.
My aim of this map is not to make one of quality, it's to practice making a CTM map in the first place, and make one with at least decent quality, in my opinion despite the fact that I accidently made it rectangular I think I did alright... I think I can at least make a mini-CTM out of this.
Although I am itching to get started on a 16-block. Your right, I need to practice terraforming and I think I am going to do that through 4 wool maps. I notice with CTM you can't just search on youtube for tutorials, it really comes out of practice.
Indeed I should probably not release what I am making right now, but honestly I am doing this for both people to play on and feedback. Like right now I am literally getting tons of feedback that's handy, I mean my area is at least a little natural looking, though I am still adding stuff to it.
Does anyone know a good inventory editor for 1.8?
Also:
(I know it looks really non-eroded but it is WIP
I don't care about the Xs. You can call me Navarog. Or Nava if you really want to be a hipster. It's fine.
I think Too many Items has been updated for 1.8.
Not sure about Not Enough Items though.

Sorry if you're talking about an other kind of Inventory Edit!
Alright, third times the charm...

NEI works for 1.8 if I'm not mistaken. Either that or ingame NBT.
Nice progress on the intersection BTW!
I'll play your maps! (updated link) http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/maps/maps-discussion/2442177-ill-play-ya-maps-2-electric-boogaloo

In about 40min I'll be .
If you haven't done so yet and plan on watching: http://strawpoll.me/4582536
Hope to see you there!
Cool! Do you plan a release during summer ?
Alright!
For the most part I am done with the core of this area, I gotta say I think it turned out better than I thought.
My concept for the area is a ruined village:
Let me know how it looks and suggestions!
Is it to dark?
I just need to add some foliage, spawn, spawners, and loot...
I would like to know first how this looks...
EDIT: Forgot to mention, to make the area dark I put a bedrock ceiling at y =256, but you can see it :/

OK thanks, that's helpful.
