Alrighty then peeps, just speaking theoretically here, what do you guys think about say a later game item (perhaps diamond pick) that would allow you to access certain parts of the previous areas and items that you couldn't previously?
Perhaps (with command blocks) erase all the bedrock in a map when the chest with said item in it?
Feel free to use this in your CTMs if you so desire.
Sounds cool, although I can't use complicated redstone contraptions to save my life, so...

I don't care about the Xs. You can call me Navarog. Or Nava if you really want to be a hipster. It's fine.

In my opinion it is a great idea. Unlockable dungeons in early areas sound very interesting to me, I think it gives more depth to the areas.
In fact, I might use this concept in my future map, if you don't mind
The area is called The Den of Despair (The Final area of my old map Void Passage) but I'm considering renaming it to Sound Card Termination or Deafening Terrors...
-snip-
How about "Sound card termination of deafening terrors"?
So, I'm having a bit of trouble finding a good block combination for the decoration on these cave walls. I don't want this place to be plain old hardened clay. What do you think would go well with it?
Thanks!
If you want my opinion it looks really good now, but you can't go wrong with some quartz/white stained clay highlights.

I'm still thinking about adding some more details to the walls or changing the red clay to something less contrast.
Yeah, it does look a little TOO, y'know, 'nothing going on on the wall itself.' Maybe use a little lava for mood lighting or to create awesome lavafalls?
EDIT: Actually, all I really know about CTMs are Vechs maps and a few newer ones, XD! I probably won't be the best source.

So, my first review!
Paradise of Monsters #1 - Mysterious Caves by orioncoko
Difficulty: 5
Overall Enjoyment: 7.5
When you start the map you appear in the “respawning area” (hollow cube without the ceiling) Here’s the teleporter to the White wool area. The invitation with title command is great, really like that. Also the difficulty chooser – not for me cause I like to have my difficulty locked. Played on Hard difficulty (reached 7 deaths).
Traps and loot chests
Throughout the map there were few interesting traps. My favourite was that one in Sanctuary of Amun – didn’t get me, but that was soooo close man, that were pixels! (any of my deaths weren’t caused by traps). I think the amount of traps was OK and none wasn’t huge explosion caused by tens of TNTs and I’m glad for that.
The loot in chests was pretty balanced and I haven’t any complains about that. Also I’ve never been low on supplies, such as wood, coal or food. (after finishing I flew through the Underground Graveyard and found hidden chest, right at the ceiling and there was… unenchanted golden sword named Skull Crasher – I think – did you forget about this item?)
Mobs
You can be proud of yourself orioncoko, you brought me to insanity. You know from my LP, that I was complaining a lot about few mobs, such as: skeletons on bats – at least give the bats some wither effect, pretty please!, Punch bow skelies – soo annoying, but now when I’m writing this, I remembered Archer’s Helmet from Sanctuary of Amun and yeah, that would solve my problem… But it would be annoying to repair the golden helmet, even if it has unbreaking III…
The amount of mobs was balanced – when I completed the map and flew through it in spectator mode I’ve seen a lot of spawning places, bedrocked behind the walls, so the natural spawns were minimal. But you should do something about the Pink wool box. There were lots of spawners ---> mobs. Also the icy castle was very, very deadly place – really low chance of surviving when fallen downstairs…
Aesthetics and gameplay
The gameplay in Ghost Desert and Icy Kingdom was really uninteresting. Just run and light it up. But aesthetically most of the map looks great. Areas are nice and detailed, mainly the Underground Graveyard (there was exposed bedrock at the teleporter to 3rd intersection! – also found another bedrock on the bottom of the Hell…)
Although that it wasn’t beta-tested (open beta) it was pretty balanced map overall and I can’t wait to your other maps.
These kind of comments kinda urk me. Not every area needs a hectic amount of block variation in order for it to "look good." In fact, lots of block variation tends to make areas look worse, and trust me I've had plenty of experience. Also, why don't you give suggestions about what kind of blocks they should use, instead of just saying that the area needs block variation. No hard feelings, dude. This is just my opinion

Yeah, I feel that just rating someone isn't gonna help them make a better map. You could list the blocks, for sure, but you probably shouldn't just say it flat out. I know it's criticism and that you are trying to help them, but you gotta take it a bit further. This is a community, not a thread where we just rate people lower because of a common trend, rather than uniqueness.
Once again, like poster above, no hard feelings. But I've been seeing a lot of posts like this and I too, had to comment.
I tried adding some lighting and went completely overboard as always. I ended up with two extremes which both look very cool but at the same time don't really fit. :|
I like the second one a lot.

Lots of people say that you should do MINI ctms before trying to make a full one: I don't agree.
While doing a mini-CTM could help you improve your aesthetics, the balance/gameplay part of a mini ctm is not even close to how you balance a full one.
For the second question... play other games! Minecraft isn't the only game out there and taking inspiration from other games may result in awesome areas! Also playing other CTM maps may help, but don't copy others too much. People don't like that.
Would not want to be rude, but you've basically become a "meme machine". You know, the 4/20 scores and the IGN "Too much water" jokes become old kinda fast. If you want to comment on someone elses work you may want to give constructive criticism. Looks like I wasn't the only one that was getting kinda annoyed at your comments, so posting this here too.
IDK how you managed to create 2 of the best looking walls I've ever seen, not even joking. I love the second design! Keep up the good work.
I need to make a peaceful one and don't want to do the stereotypical "grassy valley with random building" thing.
Try a village (gives the player a chance to trade if needed), you can make the player's base in one of the village houses, and then you can put the monument right by the blacksmith.

Good idea.
I haven't seen that used a lot either.

Needs block variaton and more erosion.

Well, a few maps came out, and I started posting. And then Zisteau played some more pantheon.
Still no sign of a Xekaj map. :C

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is how you make a CTM map.

I didn't really notice the erosion, thanks.
Thanks for the feedback!
I don't care about the Xs. You can call me Navarog. Or Nava if you really want to be a hipster. It's fine.
I'm having trouble with two things right now..
1. Make a Mini-CTM or Full CTM as my first map
and
2. CTM Mappers block.... (like writers block except for CTM mapping :<)
Any general advice?
Play lots of CTM maps
I already play lots of them
In fact that's why I want to make a CTM map in the first place...
I like the second one a lot.

I play other games to,
I'm starting to get some inspiration though....
I might get started today, I'll post progress later.....
assuming my inspiration comes in
Anyone have ideas for a monument area?
